Curious: if weight class matching has been disabled and wait times are still abnormally long, is the problem directly related to 3/3/3/3?

A rare constructive observation

Who like more, ummm, waiting?

The game itself has changed for the good in some and for the worse in many parts. But a lot of the "worse" turns are actually not player behaviour/taste related but shoddy programming related. 3rd PV is junk (as an example for player taste), but you do not have to use it. Hitreg problems or Matchmaker failcascade are shoddy programming. You have to live with both...

True, which is why things like hitreg, physics weapon balance, matchmaker should have been prioritized.

Probably because the majority of active players drop in four man groups, so if you limit each team to only one four man, then the queue will take forever.

The hotfix worked perfectly for me, thanks PGI!

I really hope you guys get the underlying issues with 3x4 figured out. I really think it'll help the feel of the game immensely.

Appreciate the idea, but the test server won't ever give us the concurrent simultaneous number of players needed to replicate the bugs in the matchmaker. Thus it cannot be used to test this particular feature.

So maybe next time you are "just" testing something without telling us (the patch notes didn't mention a "test" of the new MM irc) just STOP my running premium time, thanks....

Well, I was planning to spend some money o MWO today after the patch because I don't have time to grind. But 5 + mins to wait even after the hotfix? I'll go buy a premium BF4 membership where they have priority servers and hold their people accountable when the game breaks.

You'll get my money when I'm having fun.

Greetings MechWarriors

We were able to receive a great deal of useful telemetry data from your successful and unsuccessful attempts earlier today to launch as we tested class limits on matchmaking, all of which will help us provide an even better system later on.

At 3PM PDT / 6 PM EDT / 10 PM UTC, our team will be introducing a hot fix which should resolve any further matchmaking delays until we can release the next iteration of the matchmaker in a future patch. The hot-fix will NOT require any patch on your part. If you click search again at that time, everything will be back to normal. All players in a game will not be affected.

Many thanks for your understanding,

Thanks to you for the heads up! It's good to know when you're testing something before you do it.

But PGI said 84% of the players drop solo. How could this be!?

Pro tip: To get some guys on your test server, don't only put it online for some hours when half of your player base is working/sleeping. And give some incentive for using it, e.g. a free day of premium for everyone who play 5 matches on the PTS or whatever. (yeah I know, people got something the last time, but no one knew it beforehand)

I was on the Test server. We told them it was broken. They told us we were wrong.

What now PGI?

Guys, I'll get on PGI's case as much as anyone, but sadly, these matchmaker issues likely are not something that can be caught in pre-release testing. The scale and variables of the public environment simply cant be properly simulated in a controlled test environment, and so issues are bound to occur. MM is a work in progress.

This is not that hard of a simulation to run. There have to be vast quantities of logon data, frequency, match duration, and weight class to enable calculation of the distribution of match completion durations.

Set a max time limit, see what percentage exceed the limit. This is a typical (maybe higher level) undergrad OR queuing theory problem.

Edit: Send me the data devs and I'll take a shot at it for free.

Wonder where the bottleneck on 3-3-3-3 is.

Hardware / bandwidth limitation?

Platform / game engine specific fault?

Poor algorithm design / implementation?

/other

I jest, of course, but it does appear that a little bit of all of the above are involved.

Niko just be glad you did not have to roll out a new "GOLD MECH!" reveal thread directly following this poor patch day experience. Still hoping to get some type of MM balance soon.

The next step is to use 3/3/3/3 as the reason community warfare is delayed.

So glad my premium time is running right now. Yay! Also, huge un-thanks to support for going "nothing we can do about your premium time running right now". So in the mood to spend lots of money on MWO now. Oh yes!

Blargh!

8:17 PM EDT.
Over the past 5 hours I've had exactly 3 matches. In one of them, using a Trebuchet and firing LRMs and medium lasers and despite having expended a few tons of ammunition and firing medium lasers, I experienced both 7 fps (this computer runs BF3 and 4 on ultra settings. Radeon 6870 crossfire, 1 gig each, 16 gig ram, quad core AMD processor) and despite having had multiple hits I wound up with only 14 damage despite many confirmed hits. That was around 6 PM which was most likely when the 'hotfix' was patching in.

....Since the hotfix I haven't been able to find a match at all. Wait, just now got into one. On my way to the fourth match in slightly over 5 hours.

Has the hotfix gone through? Were there problems?
Was using a Trebuchet 7M.
On a good note I had 3 kills and 26 fps. But once I died it jumped to 86.6 FPS.

(Someone on the match I just went on suggested I restart the client. Trying my luck again.)

Little over 20 seconds this time. Much better. Guess we need to restart our clients if we haven't already.

Please explain.

Why, it did. It fixed the case, where missiles were actually dealing damage instead of just lighting up targets.
Now no one will complain about them.

If there was a hotfix, it did not fix anything. missiles are completely broken and matches take forever. Good luck guys.

I didn't play before the "hot-fix" but a 5 minutes wait time... I just might have to go play another game....
