It has to be the Joystick!! I have my joystick programmed so I dont have to go near the keyboard. (one of the older players who has the original games)

I used to have a (Logitech?) joystick that allowed you to twist it. It was GREAT for torso control in MW games. That's long gone though.

I've got a Saitek stick and throttle now, so I will probably be using those.

y not a combo of joystick and keyboard. joystick to control weapons and where u r lookin and keyboard for movement

I have a HOTAS (joystick + throttle) for controlling movement and main combat - but I plan to have my mouse on the desk as well, mapped to control the arms / torso of the mech, for precision aiming when needed. I think that is its main advantage, as it should be a bit more precise there than a joystick... but there is just so much more range of motion available with the joystick + throttle for controlling general movement.

I have to wait and see. I have a new joystick and an old Microsoft Sidewinder
Joystick, but if the mouse works better for me that is what I will use.

Neither. Use a cockpit. However that cockpit will have a joystick and pedals. And buttons layed out in a manor that easy for me to use common functions.

I used a joystick all through my Mech career - Mech 3, 4 and Mercs.. but I do believe I will be going with a Mouse and Nostromo (got one cheap on eBay)

Personally i would rather use the 2 joystick layout as that's my style. Others might prefer more buttons.

Joystick all day. Z-axis twist and having all the controls right there, you can move so much quicker. Not to mention, real mechs don't use mice :D

Flight control system. Used one many many years ago playing one of the Mechwarrior games and never once had to touch the keyboard. If you never have used a FCS it can take some getting used to, what with all the mapping of keys or if your lucky there already is a good profile to work from, but it is well worth it for flight and/or mech style gaming.

I will be using my A10 Warthog HOTAS and rudder pedals. Throttle is duel or single programable axis. Throttle also has a micro mouse that works very nice in game. Rudders will turn mech and stick will torso twist. All buttons will be programed to stick and throttle and Keyboard for chat only.

I have my left hand on the gaming area of my gaming keyboard. Steelseries Merc, loads of buttons under one hand it's great.

I only use the stick for aiming and firing + torso twist. Actually when I type it out and think about it. Sounds kind of strange, but I've always kicked *** in games :)

Immersion is all fine and dandy, but this is a multiplayer skill-based game, and you're just not going to beat the reaction time of keyboard and mouse, unless the torso twist/arm aim keyboard controls are seriously messed up, in which case you go back to the drawing board.

I can see all the younger "twitch" players crys of rage on the boards now.

1. Torso twist takes TIME. You can twitch all you want, the servos have to catch up.
2. As you get hit you have to compensate for energy on all 3 axis with 4 limbs. YOu can't get the feel for that, even with a rumble mouse.
3. Once they start to slow down, they will find they are having to work 3x as hard to get the same inputs from a mouse as joystick.

I will be using my G13 gaming device with a thumb joystick and 22 programable buttons and "something". legs/throttle slaved to my left thumb and something in the right hand for torso control.

I will go with my Thrustmaster A10 Hotas Warthog + Peddal Flightsim-Setup. I have a pilot chair with a buttshaker attached that lets your chair rumble :) I just hope that it is precise enough for a "shooter-like" game.
