Hey,

so i opted in to the challenge (regretting it, have not enjoyed it at all).

I'm curious, considering the rules and conditions, how the heck are people getting those high scores? I'm atleast 1000 lower than most...

How? unless they're getting 6-7 kills and 1000 damage a match I don't see how. and If its Pug'ing and not premades then how are they able to do that?

I have had literally only one decent game this weekend. and my best was a 4 kill 4 assist 500+ damage match. Just one. The rest have been LRMs going bezerk and my own team mates shooting me in desperation to get in a killsteal for their score...

Are there really players that good on MWO who can go around getting in that many kills/damage a match?

2x PPC/AC5 poptarts or/and LRM boats and pugging.

Buttloads of consumables.

Not necessarily true. Early on in the tournament I did use a Battlemaster 1 lrm boat but as things progressed people started copying me. So my top 3 scores have now come from using a Atlas D with two matches 1 being 6 kills 6 assist 1048 dmg the other being a 5 kill 3 assist 780dmg game. The last one I did to conclude my run for the top was in a Atlas D DC 8 kills 3 assist 934dmg. And I did it just by purely brawling and being sneaky. It's amazing what pop tarts and lrm boats do when a Atlas comes out of nowhere spewing AC and SRM fire at close range.

There where some seriously punch for punch fights a few times with other Atlas pilots but the lack of torso twisting screwed them.

Consumables where a must when I ran the lrm boat because I needed guys to think twice before rushing.

Not really true for you in that case, and I respect you for switching away from your LRM boat, but we can't be too sure about the other 9 on the top 10.

I honestly don't know how people get less than 400 damage a match in this game. It really showcases how little people understand about this game. I average 600 damage, and break 1k damage daily. Seriously though, all you need to do is practice patience and use modules and you will start seeing your numbers go up very quickly.

You just have to accept that there are people better than u at a video game. It isn't the end of the world.

It is not that difficult since there is no limit for the games played. Anyone "living on their parent's basement" (read: with nothing else to do) can achieve great scores with persistence. If the average of your matches is 210 score, for example, that should put you in the top 50 with a little to break into the top 10 of any faction.

A 210 score can be achieved with 5 kills, 6 assists and 300 damage (and a win). So, you just need to get lucky or smart and steal all your mate's finishing blows. And there you are.

When you see stupid high scores it's typically a fatty drop. Remember you can't have high scores without lots of damage to soak.

There's a fair few really good players in the game. It's like that everywhere.

Heimdelight has streamed basically all of his tourney matches if you want to take a look.

But his answer was correct. People who are racking up really high scores consistently are better then most players. There is no reason to take offense to it.

Note my question was to "how" not "why"

I know they're better. but still. "How" is it possible to PUG and get those kinds of scores was the question at hand.

In a complete solo-only PUG match?

Please oh expert MWO player... tell us and show us what you secret is. I am curious.

Mostly not...gimped mechs do not hit those scores without stomping complete newbies, or lots of strikes...

While 600 damage average is probably an exaggerated boast (great work, if not)...he's not too far off the mark. I average nearly 450 damage per game in my Jenner - across a couple thousand games. I consider 300 damage to be a total failure to perform, for myself. I get a few 1000 damage games per day. I can't claim total PUG - I almost always run with my buddy elKabong, who is only slightly worse than me overall.

In my JR7-F's case, always shoot, always move, always bring modules. Learn to pilot your chosen mech extremely well. It is not impossible to reach his claims - though again, a 600 damage average is probably quite rare outside of using meta builds.

for the how, beside having some* skill in the end you need time, and at least 10 times the right matchmaking.

Not to strong opforce, not to dumb opforce, not to good teammates, no leeroy teammates, the right place to be at, your enemy at the right place to be at and after all of that a bit luck with not gettin the focus.

* at the end you need not only luck but skill with aiming and understanding the game. This is not only a minor thing but you can only do so much in a match with all those random factors.
