I'm all ready to shell out $120 for the full deal if the game is "fun". Will we have a chance to play a demo or open beta before the Founder pack sale expires?

This is no different than any of the other gaming companies that sell their product before it goes live. Sometimes you get a discount to the game, sometimes you get in-game/out-of-game extras, other times its access to the Collector's or Limited Editions, etc. but it all boils down to the ultimate question; "Is this for me?"

IMHO, if you aren't willing to have faith in the DEVs then you shouldn't be allowed this status... I have been a supporter of all that is BattleTech/MechWarrior since 1992 and have no desire to share my position with someone who wishes to "sit on the fence" over something new to the franchise. If you don't want it then don't get it but don't expect that you should obtained that of which you've not earned the right to obtain... explained quite well below in the quote posted earlier by Deracial.

Oh, BTW... no one is holding a gun to anyone's head and forcing them to buy a Founder's package so enough with the b*tching already!

I am really enjoying the exceedingly eloquent arguments put forth by people who demand to play a game before they buy a FOUNDERS PACK.

Founder (As defined By Dictionary.com) - A person who ESTABLISHES an institution, company, society etc.

Founders are involved BEFORE the item, or thing they found actually exists. Therefore, if you would like to wait for the game to come out before paying, you are welcome to, but by definition will NOT be a FOUNDER.

If this is not enough information for you to understand why you should not be allowed to buy a FOUNDERS PACK after the open beta, then I will refer you back to the definition of FOUNDER which you obviously did not read.

:)

Well welcome to modern gaming. It is becoming more and more common for companies to want to reap the benefits prior to actually providing the product. Im not a big fan of this type of model but whatever it is what it is. It creates a minimal risk for a company to not have to invest to much of their own capital into the maintenance and purchasing of new equipment and pay salaries.
Anyhow this will allow them to do much needed upgrades to servers and what not. And I am hoping provide smooth gameplay on August 7th and no more bumped dates for us to play as it has already went form July 19th to Aug 7th which really sucks. But not that I have payed to be bumped again would be heinous and at that point i may even feel a bit duped lol.
Imagine this...we all pay $$$ to get in early and it gets bumped...gets bumped again, you finaly get in and one week later it goes LIVE...now how special would you feel then...lol.
Doubt that will be the case but if you can think it, it can happen.

The game is free. you don't need to spend a penny.

If you are willing to spend $120 now on it as long as you get to play it first and like it. You will be willing to spend $120 when it goes live.

Same thing. These founders packs are nothing more then us fans supporting the devs in a franchise we love. Just wait. The game is free. Then choose to spend money on it after it comes out.

Not real sure, but I would guess all the butthorurt about the founders packs, has more to do with hot being picked for closed beta. And less to do with any implied value. Just me 2 cents.

Interesting how many also link this idea with kickstarter! Any of you following Wasteland, a precursor to the original Fallout games? It got major funding through Kickstart.

I love Mechwarrior. Still have the old big MW2 & 3 cardboard boxes on a shelf. And I would love to support the devs (and get a nice advantage) by buying a pack.
What I'd like to see though, is a more detailed drill-down of the available mechs. If I have to pick one, I'd like to know the number of hardpoints, speed, armor etc - I want to make an informed decision if I go for one Mech.
Ok, the official battletech models are listed, but I'm not that well versed in the universe and I don't know how MWO chose to translate the rules into the game.

i am a hughe fan of battletech and all mech games so far (20 years now)... BUT... in my life i have seen so many games that looked awesome in videos or announcements, but when they were finally released, the game was either no fun playing or simply crap.
watching a video or screenshots shows you how good a game looks, but it can`t tell you how it actually IS to play the game, if it is fun, if it "feels right"...

i really hope this game is as enjoyable as it sounds atm and if so, i am willing to spend those 120 dollars without a second thought, but without knowing if the game is fun to play (for me), or playable with my hardware, or if there will be european servers... well, too many "if"s to spend such a hughe amount of money.

supporting the devs is a good thing, but only if you know what they are doing is enjoyable for you in the end.

It really is like preordering any console game you've played the other titles liked them and want a leg up on the rest of the players or something like that. Only real differance is u can't take this one to gamestop.

" If there is a good reason why the offer should end before the open beta begins then no one has presented it yet. "Because its a time limited offer that only those who have faith in the product should get" does not convinces me or anyone else. "

This is a good point
dont you think?

Meh, I threw down. My little way of contributing to a game i dont want to see go to the winds. Honestly I like what they have done to the game. Whoever the artist here is has done a bang up job on the mechs and if PGI can do it right and make a profit where M$ and EA couldn't then I feel my money is well spent. Its a risk but really not that big considering the amount of money I spend in general over 3 months.

Please don't get the impression I am ******** about the $120, I understand their trying to raise some capital to test support and help ease financing, but, I think it would be relatively simple to offer limited access, a demo, etc, in return for the capital being donated. I'm sure many of you have 100% faith in this game, I am just suggesting for those of us who are on the fence it would be great if Pirana could be gracious enough to let us try before we buy. Please don't criticize the sum of $120 by the way not all of us are making large wages, I worked for $8.50/hr in summer so after taxes $120 is equal to more than a weeks savings (after food, rent, gas) for me, thus I don't just throw it away for something thats untested.

And I will point out just cause its MW! doesn't mean its a good game, so far I'm getting the distinct impression a hell load of work will have to go in to catch up to the current MWLL which has vehicles and aerospace, and is a pretty awesome recreation of MW. I just would like to try it out. I hope to god it resembles MW4 and not the more recent mech assault. And I hope a game built from ground up for MW instead of one thats just a free mod like MWLL will be so much better.

At the same time the game is still in beta. From my experience, people who aren't regular beta testers tend to get the impression that they're playing a final product and nothing will ever be changed and improved regardless of how many disclaimers there are. And depending on the stability and completeness of the game, they could find it lacking and turn off to it completely. I've heard stories even of MWO beta, people had friends get into it, they think it sucks and never log in again, they then proceed to strangle said friend. And from a few of the alphas and betas I've been in, I know this happens fairly often.

Being a Founder is like being an investor in a company. You put forth money they need and use. It's a leap of faith and I'm glad I can be a part of this :)

Being a founder has nothing to do with being an investor. There is nothing at all similar between those two. Being an investor is about funding the development of a project and getting part of the profits in return. Investing is about making a legally binding financial contract with someone while buying founder packs just buying game time, game items and paying subscription fees in advance.

These preordering founder sales are equally about marketing and special offers.

Personally I'm not bothered at all about these special offers. I think it is fine and good and all. What I am bothered about is what these packs and the stuff that comes with these packs reveal about the business model and game mechanics of the game (exp grinding, money grinding etc.).

I invest my money by a leap of faith in return I get fun back. Or money whatever you want to label it as all money really is the paper form of a service you provided for someone else. So yes I'm correct in saying its "like" being an investor.

Well actually having or not for a founder package is not really a big deal.. You just need to ask yourself "Do you need a C-Bill Farming Machine?" ..

MWO looks great, actually I can see it being best MMO 2012.

I just don't want to encourage game developers to hold back open beta prior to limited offer sale.

Give us beta. I got $120 ready :)

I never thought of it like that.

Every MMO account I have has far more credits than I need. I suppose we can switch to more ammo weapons as they do more damage and use it up that way. But won't that result in more kills, more wins and more c-bills lol

You could have a good point. At least until there is enough things to buy in the game to prevent us feeling like we're rich in the game.

Oh yes.

Being an all PvP game and having so many fans used to playing solo. I'm confident they just done a cash grab because a high number of players probably don't even like the levels of PvP they would need to enter in this game.

I will bet my $120 that 1 in 5 Legendary Founder buyers are in this forum with I quit type of threads before the year is out. Not because the game is bad, just because it is not MechWarrior 5!

Anyone with a bit of strategy in them would have held on to their money and demanded beta with legendary founders, if not open beta.
