You're saying we will be able to buy mechs that give +cbill bonuses that don't take up garage slots?

Well, they are a reward for giving them money now instead of later. But it is not like you can't just buy more slots and booster packs later once the game is released. That will probably be a mayor source of income for the devs.
And yes I'm 100% sure that there will be other chances to buy something special if the game is a success. Naturally, it will not be the exact same thing.

I still don't under what the problem with is with founder packs. Yes waiting longer to play the games sucks, but it is not like we are forced to buy anything. I can still test the game before I hand over a single cent. Aside from the delay, nothing has changed.

It is a pre-order. What you are buying is not a free game but in-game items (mechs) and subscription fees to a service. They are not free and will never be free. You are also buying (pre-ordering) in-game currency. Essentially you are buying stuff beforehand and none of it is "free". You are making a purchase and you are getting your stuff later but you pay now. It's a pre-order. If you pre-order a car you are not an investor. You are not a founder. You just bought a car and paid beforehand. Even if the car comes with a sticker that says "investor" or "founder" it is just a sticker.

You are not founding anything except one thing. The only thing you are founding is the online community of players of mwo. The founder pack is called founder pack because it sounds cool and allows people to feel like they are supporting something (which they are) but honestly you are pre-ordering the stuff I listed. And there is nothing wrong with that. But it is not investing, it is not founding. It's a purchase.

You also failed to understand your own dictionary quote. You are not starting the development of mwo. You are not laying the foundations of mwo. You are not creating the basis of mwo. You are not formulating the mwo and its mechanics and systems either. You are supporting the game by buying game stuff by pre-ordering sold content.

The founders of mwo are the guys who are making this. The customers are not the founders. The investors are the ones who pay the bills before the game starts making profit by selling stuff or service to customers.

I have no idea why you are trying to twist this to some kind of financial agreement or financial investment when you are just buying game content and getting a sticker that says "founder".

However I am slightly suspicious that they think they will earn more money this way in the initial launch, than they would offering open beta this early.

Considering they do not have the hardware to support an open beta currently (the whole reason July 17th turned into August 7th in the first place) offering open beta currently would doom the game to failure regardless of how good it is.

when was the last time you preordered a game (say... COD or BF) and got to play the game first?
That's a specious argument. You also can't become a "Founder" in CoD, or play the beta of BF, or have access to special rewards by being a beta tester or pre-ordering CoD or BF.You are comparing apples to oranges.

My buying a founders pack at 60 was honestly a gamble, move is 7ish bucks for 2 hours, as long as i get more than 10 hours of enjoyment out of this game i have broken even in my mind. and i think i will be getting many many more hours than that.

Anyone else find it weird that a whole bunch of the new users seem to have a bone to pick with the founders pack?
It's not at all surprising. They're asking perfectly reasonable questions.

I did the same thing when World of Tanks went gold and ordered the $100 Heavy PreOrder that came with a good amount of Gold and the Heavy M6A2E1 tank that you do not see a lot of around the game. It is cool to be unique and have something unique as well as help out a Dev you believe in as they make a game you enjoy immensely. Now comes MWOnline and not only does the money help give them a nice boost to get the game off the ground, you get some good stuff in return and the fact that the 4 mechs are literally my top favorites, it was a no question decision that I had to pitch in. With Devs that care about their product and a product that looks this good, can you really doubt the final product isn't going to be pretty darn good in this day and age?

I think of the MWO Founder's package as a Collectors Edition Pre-order simliar to other games. I've seen many folks spend the same amount of money on other games just for a small boost in the game or an out of game trinket such as a map or DVD of information. I've also seen those collection editions get sold out. I don't understand why so many people have an issue with a Legendary Founder pack for a game they haven't played unless these are not the sort of folks that would pay for a Collectors Edition of a game.

I've never bought a collector's edtion of a game before as I never saw the value in them. Perhaps those games did not mean as much to me as Mechwarrior does.

I think i got half way through this thread before heading to the end with alot of LOL

This is simple. YOU have the right not to buy it. :D

Ill have to add that it was funny to see the Legendary tag under some of the ones that seemed to be against this. I dont think you will regret the leap of faith.

I had no issue deciding to get the pack myself. The devs have been keeping right up with the community.. interacting and such. They care.. its obvious.

This is comming from somebody that has preordered out the butt for different titles, and i've been stung a few time doing so. None of them had anything to do with this company so they get their chance from me.

I just want to help keep this undying thread alive. Surely one of the two camps will prevail and the other will yield and admit they were wrong.

If you tried it before you bought it, you wouldnt be an investor/founder. You would be a buyer.

The fact that you believe you are now an investor or even a real founder just because you bought some pre-order package speaks volumes about your sensibilities. The people here saying they have faith and just want the "founder" gear are at least being honest. You on the other hand are just fooling yourself.

I wish I could get outraged about this but $120 is not the end of the world for me. I guess if I lived in a cardboard box it would be a different story.

I'll say this for the Founder Pack and threads like this one: They're a great example of religion and the zealots who follow them.

And this is what we get when people demand the freedom of speech as compensation for not using the freedom of thought.

Lol, you want to read reviews. A game only gets good reviews if the devs shell out the cash for one.

How about you try watching the trailers and gameplay views with IGN, for example.

There, you've seen the product, happy birthday, now go buy founders.

Or not. We don't really care.

Yes we do.. we need fodder...

So if i pay the city council a bunch of money will the put me on the founders list even though i was born 100's of years after the founding of the city? you pay for the founders packs to be part of laying the corner stone of the game.

So what?

Does not change my opinion does it. Does not change my request for this entire approach to be changed and strong beliefs it should be. But as I mentioned, I've been told that won't happen. I can only hope such debates effect developers approaches in future.

Hence why we have freedom of speech. So don't make out I'm wrong.

Just because I'm not a fanboi who talks about faith in a small purchase of $120, does not mean I'm wrong and it does not mean I can't purchase the Legendary pack later on.

My argument still stands if I've paid or not. Beta should be giving earlier and I will continue to do so with my own customers. That is how I work and why I was writing posts asking for it to be that way. That is how we get more for our dollar or pound or whatever currency you have in your pocket. Giving it up without asking for more on the table or expressing you expect more on the table, is not how I operate.

Cool man, I was not judging or harassing you or your opinion. I just think the situation was funny.

I agree that beta should be earlier, but since they told us they don't have the bandwidth to accommodate more players until they relocate for production hardware, there's no solution for this "problem", so discussing it will achieve nothing.
