While I enjoy the freedom of speech, I would like to point out that sometimes young teenagers as well as older children do play this game. So please, if you would. Stop typing every foul word you know during game play.
Thank you.

I was once like you...

There are too many "people" and not enough "gentlemen". I'm cool with people, but prefer classier types.

An internet post cannot fix this... the announcers doing the tourney could not even keep it clean.

Some even argue that as man has advanced keeping it clean, trying to speak genteel etc is an archaic tie-me down that keeps people from truly expressing themselves, instead of realizing that vocabulary is a way to even more perfectly effing describe some stupid chit you saw with your big ol' eyeballs.

You can always remind another player about the code of conduct (optional step), and if that doesn't stop his or her use of abusive language, you can send a report to support and they will take care of it.

To me, this has always seemed to be worse on weekends. I'd taken that to be because those you are seeking to protect are in fact the worse offenders.

As someone who goes to high school, I can safely assure you that half the things heard on MechWarrior Online aren't even half as bad as some of the things muttered in the hallways.

Plus, CoC cannot make it so you cannot swear.

True, but for possibly different reasons than I think you mean.

Ban a specific word?
They find another word and give it the same meaning (or lack of meaning)

Edit:

On that thought - what does the word Damnation mean?

It means (literally) to stop somethings progress.
A dam (as in beaver dam) and a damn are the same word - but one gets used in such a way that it became a "bad" word.

People banned the use of damn - and the people who wanted to swear found other words to do it with.
And the people who wanted to continue discussing the topic, dropped the n so that they could say "see? we are not swearing!"

On the flip side, the more you use a word - the less that word means.
Thus - people have started using "worse" words to mean what they used to use damn for.

They're gonna learn it one way or the other so why don't you just let us help get that part of child education out of the way, heh? -_-

Besides, MWO community's general politeness is definitely on the higher percentile. Keep yer kids away from CoD.

i guess it all depends where you live, 12 year old kids in my neighborhood use worse language than i do, so i can't believe the kids in my area would be offended. hey you don't like foul language, have them install an editor that xxx's them out. that should only take about 2 years and 13 patches with this crew.

Shar the word Damnation also means- To be sent to Hell- which that is one definition of it from the dictionary.

What do you think being sent to hell does?

Literally: a cessation of all eternal progress.

implies a lot more than a halt of progress.

Implies, yes - but Doom implies negativity.

Doesn't actually mean it.

Only means Fate.
Destiny.

Similarly, Damn implies a certain negativity - but does not actually include that in it's meaning
(though a cessation of progression is pretty negative if you ask me)

Similarly - biblical speaking, we are not told to not use any specific words - just not to "Use the Lord's name in vain"

But what does "in vain" mean?
Archaically - vain did not mean having a big opinion of yourself - but instead meant "meaningless" or "useless"

While calling damnation on someone is pretty bad, denying the word any meaning could be considered worse.
Especially if they are words that are very much supposed to mean strong things (such as Jesus, or Christ, or Damnation)

How many people do you see using the word Damn to actually mean that?
I do not see very many outside of church meetings.
Most of the time they are throwing the word out as a filler. (a concept that infuriated the Clans, by the way)

IE: in vain.

Edit: I am told that the Japanese do not have any "swearwords" though they have plenty of vulgar terms.

Similar concept at work perhaps?
IE: they do not tend to say things without it having meaning?

Boredom + a good dictionary + a literal mind + Alaskan Winter + a cold last winter (keeping me indoors and providing the boredom)

Oh we know the words are Swears

Swearing (archaically) means more making a promise, or an oath

IE in Serenity, Mal's oath - "by my pretty floral bonnet I will end you"
(or however he phrases it)

However, people tend to prefer stronger oaths ("by God" being a popular one)
Which leads to people saying it without meaning it - which is where the problems come in (that whole vain thing)

...trying to remember how swearing (promises) came to mean what it does now (cussing) :P

Edit: with the anger thing - that is an important bit - as when we are angry we are less in control of ourselves.

Less control means a great deal many problems - on a great deal many levels.

Alaska would make me say swear words.

There are times it makes me rather unhappy (really not fond of mosquitoes or cold)

But between the beauty and the fact that it is Home (as I grew up up here).....

Well, there is beauty everywhere else I have been (including the middle of Arizona and Nevada - generally not thought of as beautiful areas)

But there is no place like Home. :P

Getting to see the Aurora most winters (usually several times a winter) helps a lot though. -_-

CoC only prohibits sex talk. As long as the words are not used in the derogatory way that they are then no one can be reported for using them.

You might want to read that again:

He will learn anyway so he could just let him play anyway.

I could be considered an "older teenager" by the OP and i believe it isneither impossible nor useful put a white filter on a game (which is actually about war, with people dying and/or burning in flames in cramped war machines' cockpits - and you know the soldier's mouth is not often a clean one) while real life is totally different.

And aff, i do believe that that part of the CoC is a joke, too. However, you fill find that part in pretty much every CoC of any game/community/forum.

.. But what could you expect from the rules of ComStar, the pure saviors of Mankind and Keepers of Blake's teachings? :P
