snip on stock mechs

I would suggest checking out Stock Mode event days.

Stock 'Mechs in the context of MWO work perfectly fine for their intended roles they are designed and balanced for. This is a common misconception that the builds are alright horrible. Even lowly Commando's or a Cataphract CTF-4X work excellent in Stock Mode.

I should point out that Stock campaigns existed in the multiplayer leagues for previous games since they were immensely popular. Those games also had a selectable difficulty level for servers known simply as "Stock Mode."

In MWO, players have not really had the chance to play Stock battles (except now mainly in Private battles) in a public setting to really get a feel for it. The only option available is the public mode, which in itself allows the use of the Mech Lab, which is also a source of balance problems.

I should point out that the old Beta of MPBT3025 was also designed around battling it out in the Inner Sphere, with various Factions, on various Planets, with only Stock 'Mechs from Battle 'Tech. The people that tried that Beta thought it was pretty awesome.

There's no misconception. Sure, stock builds are great in stock only battles, but I'm not talking about stock only battles. Once you have tuned mecgs, stock builds are trash.

They are balanced against each other reasonably well, of course - if everyone has trash builds, its all good.

Don't get me wrong, I think the whole stock build day thing is awesome, its just entirely unrelated to what in was saying.

Can I just point out that given the history of execution, maybe the devs should decide the start year once CW is here. A second reset in Feb or March of 2015 would be frustrating and embarrassing.

They have not even started CW according to Russ's reddit Q&A. They have not even started on maps as well. However, Russ did say he would allocate assets to start both after the clan rollout in June even though they said many times CW is 90 days away. It seems like the canned answer to everything. Apparently, MWO is a geographic anomaly... 90 days away from everything.

Are they sure rolling back to mid-year 3049 is far enough back? Not really giving themselves a big enough buffer with their track record. 3038 or so would've been a better starting off point from the game's inception but that is looking through the clear vision of hindsight.

Incorrect. According to his Reddit AMA, they're going to be allocating resources for CW, to CONTINUE what they had already worked on, and edit/redesign some of the things they've worked on. I don't get why people keep saying they haven't done anything on CW. Even the plan website, which updates very rarely, shows some of the things they've already worked on.

If clans get get access to advanced prototypes that every pilot could buy. How come IS can't have access to advanced 'prototype' IS mechs like Mauler.

Because the lawsuit could end this game. Same problem with the Warhammer, and a lot of other mechs.

WOW, didn't see that coming! Good move. Next thing you will tell us you will make stock loadouts viable!

Stock loadouts were 99% not viable. Only reason they worked was because of BV matching, and so if I brought upgraded mechs, you outnumbered me by a good margin. If it's 12 mechs vs. 12 mechs, Stock will 99% of the time loses.

plus this.

View PostCimarb, on 04 June 2014 - 07:58 AM, said:

Stock loadouts have never been viable, in the meaning that they were well designed, even in TT. You could always change the load out to make better use out of your tonnage and critical slots, and that doesn't even take into account different playstyles - even keeping the same basic loadout the stock build was very inefficient on every variant I ever saw.

There is still the issue of the Federated Commonwealth.

3049 means no wolfhound.

Right now your going to be seeing random bucket drops of both Clan, and IS mechs. That's not very cannon.

We haven't seen any new maps created in a while. A huge community warfare issue. You don't have enough maps for mass community warfare.

I am all for a rollback. There are other issues that need to be addressed.

We already have 2 maps coming in soon, and I believe they mentioned that after releasing them (especially the jungle map with all those new delicious assets, that might be destructible) they will be able to crank out maps faster, and they do want to put many more maps in this game.

I'm looking forward to a different lava map.

I would like to further concur with more ISN news headlines. Those were always fun to read and discuss with others about. Enough with the Comstar info blackout.

This only makes me more anxious to see CW launch.

I just see a game that is largely up to player participation. already, with the faction-based tournaments we've seen, it's clear there is a even distribution of player abilities. But remember: CW will last longer than a single weekend. Small faction-based imbalances can gradually change the inner sphere beyond recognition. I only hope enough people are going clan once it launches. If the invasion doesn't dramatically surge into IS territory I'll feel like the whole wait for CW and the Clan invasion was a total bust. (I'm sticking with IS for now because I've put a fair amount into this game already to suddenly forsake my arsenal to maintain BT lore, maybe I'll go in on IS omnimech packages when/if they become available.)

Question,

How do you guys think this will affect the houses at the bottom of the map like Marik, Davion, and Liao who are not in the path of the clans. Are we going to keep fighting the other houses or what? I know what happened in the cannon, the houses united to fight the clans. But I dont see that as being really implementable. So with out a corridor to fight the Clans what will the houses not being invaded do during the invasion?

While a rollback makes sense, Im strongly for treating MWO like any other mechwarrior game has been in the past: set apart from canon events to allow for a games story (or gameplay) to be played through fully.

Good examples are MW4:mercs where we had Specter killing Nondi Steiner instead of Peter in one of the final mission choices, or in MW2 imagine if regardless of how well you did you always got the novel ending (as opposed to standing on the moon looking at Terra).

------

With that in mind there wouldnt be any harm bringing in the other clans early, or having some mechs show up earlier or later than intended.

Pretty sure they will be punching each other out.

It will happen how we decide. THAT is the best thing about what PGI announced.

Since you are into time traveling, why not having four different flavor for this game? Split the game into four eras.

1) 3025 - For those who love succession wars.

2) 3049 - For the Clan Invasion

3) 3070 - Blake Nukestorm, where we fight Blake Omnimechs.. Powerarmors and Protomechs

4) 3145 - The high tech era with Rotary, Plasma and etc weapons?

You, PGI can make more MOOlas as you are so obsessed in making, keep every one happy and etc.

However, as PGI had demonstrated, their marketing and tweaking, have no common sense in strategy or tactics.

That would be cool, except that would be 4 different CWs to watch for, and program.

Neat idea, but what would it do to the queue populations? divide them by 4? is that a good idea?

woah woah woah. They SHOULD expect a warm welcome. I mean we brought all these ACs, and Lasers, and Missiles, and ... and flamers. I'm pretty sure that would get things warm and toasty in those mechs.

Why shouldn't there be a warm welcome, Clan and IS are going to walk hand in hand when they arrive. "Greetings from beyond the periphery! We're going to invade you and steam roll your planets and forces... but first lets tone down our weapons since that's totally unfair... then lets team up together and do some 12 vs. 12!!!" *jump high five*

Well God forbid that they please everyone... lol. Or that they might bring many more people back, or bring people in to play who are waiting to see what direction this game grows (or doesn't)

So we are re-rolling AGAIN?

No choice it seems. But I must say I am disappointed in PGI's delivery time. Not to mention their intentional dawdling while waiting for the license extension.
