Dead or not. They aren't very encouraging towards new players.
Also kinda wished they'd switch to something like UE4 instead of a mod for an ageing game,

Who's not encouraging? Yes, there can be some vets that get carried away, but what old game doesn't have those?

New players joining the Discord and asking vets questions is something that happens daily. Veteran players tend to be the most welcoming bunch. I have yet to see anybody scorn new players in-game or otherwise.

we have an extremely friendly and helpful community, especially on discord
yes, trash talking in games happens, like anywhere else... but much more of the chat traffic is discussions and coordination
if you need help, you can go to reddit or forums... or get it on discord in real time and immediately
not many other games have that
