I've been watching the NGNG stream and a few different Youtube videos showcasing the Clans in action. My initial thoughts are that Clan tech isn't as OP as TT, but it still feels very superior to IS tech. I think the game will be dominated by Clan mechs stomping all over IS for the first few weeks after they come out.

Highlights:
- Clan UAC sound amazing.
- LRMs fire much faster than I thought they would.
- The Ryoken is gigantic but has a beautiful cockpit.
- Now I can spray my name in the snow with yellow lasers.

What are some of your thoughts?

Yeah, they aren't going to be perfectly balanced...but IS mechs will still have some chance.

At the same time, i think so many people are getting Clan mechs that it wont matter either way...fun stuff.

clan mechs cant switch their engine.
this is a very hard nerf for Clans compare to IS mechs.

so yea at first glimpse they look like badass but they have serious weak spots.

I really don't understand the fascination with yellow lasers.

My guess is that the Clan Mechs/Tech will be OP for awhile. Which is fine with me since lore-wise (GASP!) they were anyway.

Yes not being able to change engines or remove ferro armor greatly limits loadouts on mechs like the Timber Wolf.

If you are a scout mech only pilot that sounds great.....not so much for everybody else in slower mechs.

If you are a clan mech pilot you never have to grind C-bills for an engine ever again.

You don't have to grind for engines but switching omnipods is expensive.

Clan weapons as implemented do lots of damage. With their reduced crit requirements and reduced crits for endo/ferro, with 2 crit heat sinks they are heat efficient.

I still don't get why some people keep saying not being able to change the engine is a huge limiting factor. Most of the clan mechs already have the perfect engine for their size with the only mech i'd say could benifit from a different engine would be the direwolf being able to use an XL instead of a standard engine.

All I have to say about the arrival of the clans right now is: gold mechs.... such a bling bling factor. The gold skin on the Timber Wolf I saw with it was amazing....and shiiiiiney.

I love the chicken dance clan mechs have. The chicken legs is one thing that makes em cool, imo.

Anyone get a screen of a gold mech in game. I would love to see one haha.

The gold skin looked waaaaaay better in game then any of those crummy screenshots we got earlier, I looked at the ones I took of it but 1) my camera skills suck apparently and 2) a still picture do not do them justice.

Stock loadouts run VERY hot mostly. This is normal even on IS mechs.

The amount of labwork that can be done is amazing!

And kitfox prime with ecm arm and 2 c-strk 6 in the other arm, jump jet legs swapped in.... it ain't my beloved Jenner, but.........Chicken likey dis mech!!!!!!!!!!!

too bad C erm don't reach 600 meter optimal like they are supposed to, but still quite good.

By what I"ve seen thus far:

Clans are supposed to have the advantage at range while being bad at brawling (unless the variant is made specifically for it). This is not the case. Clans are fantastic at all ranges while having more overall firepower. What we should see is the Clans doing max dps at around 500-600 meters, and that damage still being somewhat limited against more than one target at a time.

Clan LRMs seem to be superior to normal LRMs in every way. Targeting computers are almost useless or not yet implemented. C-PPCs and ACs are the Clans' largest shortcomings (along with mediocre speed), but their sheer firepower and seemingly greater armor more than makes up for that.

IS Mechs are supposed to be better at brawling, speed, or armor. Instead I'm seeing that IS Mechs only have a speed advantage. Atlai are a joke when they should be pretty damn fearsome. Any Assault Mech should be fearsome, as a matter of fact. Mediums and Lights should be good at running away from and distracting Clanners, while Heavies should be the DPS boats.

Instead, I'm seeing Mediums as flies for the Clans to swat at, Lights as the IS' greatest advantage (speed and firepower in a glass cannon-y package), Heavies as inferior, and Assaults as a 5-second damage sponge.

Currently, IS Tech has no hope of beating the Clans. The odds in MWO are better than in, say, MW2 or MW4, but the game isn't quite balanced out.

UAC20 and UAC10 both need HUGE nerfs. Thats really the only warning bell that triggered for me. Everything else seems reasonably balanced.

Pretty sure they already did...last week when they nerfed all ACs.

Now I don't know if there is much else they can do to change the fact that UAC20 just deals twice as much damage as anything else.....slowing down the burst time more probably just puts them in a weird place where C-UAC5s can out-perform them.

I disagree. The Timber Wolf has an XL 375. The IS version weighs 26.5 tons. That's about 11 tons heavier than an XL 300. 11 tons of Clan weaponry is a lot of damage. The inability to swap engines is their major limiting factor currently. That 11 tons could easily let you mount 2 C LRM15s with ammo. That's practically a Catapult C1's loadout.

Now, you've got another roughly 26 tons to play with.

A Timber Wolf with 37 tons of weaponry is scary, even if it goes 20 kph slower or so.
