Because typically when you buy larger quantities of it you get a better rate. That's the way they get you to spend more money and your reward for doing so. Having that MC then not be usable to purchase what you want is what ruins it and why Abrahms is justifiably upset.

Okay, i get that then :P

I suppose I CAN see where you are coming from with the MC = USD argument. You've purchased what you thought was a legitimate currency, and now it's being refused. Recently, I tried to purchase Duke Nukem Forever with MC, but my local game store told me they didn't accept it as a currency, and they wanted real dollars supported by an actual bank. I tried pointing out that I had already SPENT real money on this, and that therefore a collection of electronic points was the same as real money, but they just laughed. I tried pointing out that PGI was involved in both games, and that the MC could be traded for everything in MWO, given time, at which point they had their security guard throw me out of the store. WITHOUT MY COPY OF DUKE NUKEM FOREVER.

@Sparks
That example is totally out of context. To PGI, when purchasing things directly from them, MC should be equivalent to USD. In the same way when you buy Microsoft Points or put funds into your Steam Wallet you are expected to be able to buy anything that shows up in that service.

Lol, really man? seriously? how can you even say that and not feel like a potato? MC is a MWO currency, not a currency to buy Duke Nukem...

Huge difference here... the same people wanted real dollars for mechs are the same people who sold me MC.

The proper analogy you should have used, is that the game store wouldnt accept a gift card that they sold to you the month prior

Oh, good, you can see my replies. Sorry, I thought you were completely blinded by rage for a moment.

Mind taking a moment to address my earlier post, too? The one not written in humour?

Furthermore, it's utterly insane that people think it's okay to do this. Why are you supporting them being able to screw people like this by having different things available for different currencies.

What if tomorrow they made Inner Sphere Credits and Clan Credits and said you could only buy clan mechs with Clan Credits? Furthermore Mechwarrior Credits are now only usable for unlocking mechwarrior skills in the piloting tree.

[ sarcasm ] I mean you can't expect them to know ahead of time what each currency is going to be good for, right? Things change right? [ /sarcasm ]

The exact same thing is going on here. You can't accept multiple currencies (USD and MC) and make each currency only good for certain things. On the Xbox LIVE marketplace you can buy everything with Microsoft points. On steam you can buy anything with your Steam wallet. You don't get screwed by buying one type of currency and then having it not be useful for things which are going to be sold for an arbitrary currency.

Well, everything that MC was originally useful for it still is. Buying cosmetic items, premium time, and 'Mechs a few weeks ahead of their c-bill release date. They've only added to that, not taken anything away. So your example is somewhat out of context.

I wont say that MC is useless in game.. :P

You would still need MC to buy the hero mechs, and if you want to translate that MC into game Cbills, you could buy the Cbills packs they have. Problem solved. Your $60 is translated directly to in game Cbills if you do that.

It still fails the larger point that nothing should be being sold for USD anymore. Once you establish your own currency you stick with it. Again, see Microsoft points or Steam Wallet. If Microsoft or Steam suddenly started selling new types of products that didn't exist before and didn't let you use Microsoft points/Steam Wallet currency on it it would be insane, even though they wouldn't be "taking anything away." And because those are larger companies they would burn at the stake for it if they tried it. PGI is thankfully small enough that they aren't getting tons of negative attention for this.

If PGI had a long-term business plan, maybe they'd realize that discouarging players from making large MC purchases is a bad idea.

Oh, you can buy that shiny 'mech 5 months from now with MC, but by that time you could have just earned the C-bills it costs so no real point to your MC.

But I'm not convinced PGI has a long-term business plan.

This thread also reinforces the fact that many forum goers would willingly go into a dark alley with PGI and whisper, "Be gentle."

Oneproduct makes an excellent point - everything should be available for MC.

perceived broken promises?

"we wont do X"

6 months later, they do X... lol

clan order info page was also created when?

regardless, it should be at the MC purchase page... but they dont want it there, obviously

Also, I dont think that 2 years ago, founders expected their MC to rot away because it couldnt ever be spent on the new, latest releases

It can be spent on anything but the Clan Pack. (And the Phoenix before it, Sarah's Jenner or oh, that Founders Pack you bought)

And, in 2 weeks, one can start buying Clan Mech with it. As said. You didn't do your homework. That is a you problem, completely separate from any other issues.

I dont think the "homework" existed when I bought my MC.

As others here have noted, Microsoft and Steam have NOT done wtih with Microsoft points and steamwallet. For good reason.

It screws over those who buy MC and reduces the incentive to buy MC. It is a short term profit plan, and not a long term success plan. Not indicative of a company Id want to dump another $55 into for a single mech when I can go buy an entire new game for that price.

Unless he edited his post, he made the assumption that he would be able to use his in-game currency to buy in-game items.

In-game currency he spent real money for.

How do people not see the probem with this? The level of fanboyism on this forum is strong. I think I've stumbled onto a hive of trolls.

Why? Why should things suddenly be sold for only internal currency? The US dollar is a legitimate currency. Most businesses in the USA do their financial transactions with it. PGI probably do their own internal bookkeeping with it (or, more likely, Canadian dollars). I can get my banking institution to trade Australian dollars for US dollars. None of that applies to MC.

Ahem. Your homework, right here:

Gee, they didn't mention that you wouldn't be able to spend MC to pre-order 'Mechs when you bought your Founders pack? How strange...

...well, actually, not. If you want to go that route, let's look at what you COULD buy with MC. At the opening of closed beta, you could buy a single Atlas variant, a Jenner variant, a Catapult variant, and a Hunchback variant. We also saw a few more variants and chassis added as time went by, and camo schemes, paintjobs and cockpit item. At the time, Paul was well known for his phrase "You're still not getting your freakin' Mad Cat". The notion that you could have access to 'Mechs that other players didn't yet have was not yet introduced, and wouldn't be until the Phoenix packs went live, based on the model of the Founders packs that also weren't purchased with MC.

Just to point that out again, MC existed at the time the Founders packs went on sale. You could buy it if you wanted, though most people didn't at the time since they weren't sure what they were getting. What it couldn't buy, though, was a Founders Pack. The Clans were a distant dream. So now, several years later, you want to fly in the face of what you knew, expecting that your MC would buy you a product you didn't know would exist in a transaction that had never been supported before?

Dream on.

Gee - maybe because expecting to buy the stuff with in game currency - before the announced date of release of availability for said currency - is rather stupid?

Then go buy that other game. This has been six pages of most people telling you that you're acting like a petulant, entitled child. If you haven't made your point by now, why flog a dead horse over and over again. Consider it a lesson learned and move on. Caveat Emptor.

There's little reason why PGI shouldn't have accepted MC for the clan mechs, since MC are effectively just real world currency. They may have made more money on the clans that way.
