Yeah, if you use over 10 quotes it tells you that you have a "mismatch." It's dumb ;)

Your argument of "But X-wing, Star wars!" refers to an IP that is vastly more popular that battletech and much more recognizable in pop culture.

Secondly...PGI has consistently cherry-picked lore...even as a person who is familiar with Battletech, myself, I'm not assuming you can or can't take Clan Mechs. I mean, honestly, PGI hasn't given a flying f**k about sticking to a LOT of lore...why would they start now? They're just taking the most convenient bits, like usual.

Well, right because they have not always sticked to the lore it is time they should start doing it, quiaff?

Well, SW is more recognizable, but if i am going to spend 240$ on 'Mechs of a specific faction, different from all those i have used to play for, i would at very least look for a bit of info in the forums, and in this specific case i would have ran into this issue, prompting me to ask questions. Someone would have redirected me to the podcast in which Russ said there would be a public queque and i would have been much more happy to buy a Clan pack while loyally sticking to an Inner Sphere faction ;)

I have to say i am curious about fictional universes and, indeed, MW4 and MWO prompted me to dive myself into the BT universe , something that most casual players would never do.

"Significant" is very subjective. Name a single "significant" person in lore that had over fifty personal mechs in their hangar...

Hanse Davion, he owned them all, lol.

I have both "sets" of Mechs. I realise I can PUG in either - but that got old a year ago.

Fair. PGI's communication has ALWAYS been kinda crap regarding things they sell. Hell, I'm still waiting to pick my Phoenix medallions until I know what the various bonuses/advantages are depending on the factions...'cause...ya know...CW isn't friggin' here for it to matter yet.

Selling packages of mechs and goodies and withholding information (or just not HAVING any info) and providing it AFTER their money is in your bank is a **** way of running things. I feel like the casual gamer who isn't familiar with the IP shouldn't have to feel like they go screwed because PGI isn't up front with the info on what the **** you buy actually does.

It's why I don't buy their products anymore...I buy Star Citizen stuff instead. They tell me what I'm getting, and when there's a chance what I'm getting will CHANGE it's written out for me in big, bold shiny letters so I know that I'm buying a malleable product.

I was right with you until the italicised section.
Lights already can be trollderped by heavies and assaults. Put those in and you'll see EVEN LESS lights. The heavy and Assault population will rise yet again....not really wanted thank you.
Knockdowns will be abused trust me. It will also help your heavier team mates to ruin your day, they already walk into you when you are trying to turn or back into you, or land on you.....basically get in the way when you are desperately trying to evade fire.
"Turning on a dime" is how lights try to avoid being trollderped by the alpha monkies. Take away what tools they have to survive and watch the numbers dwindle. Very few TAGS, or NARCS or spotting for you then.....They have to be combat viable as that is currently all there is to do in the game.
Assaults and Heavies don't make up the majority of mechs for no reason y'know...

I'd rather have knockdowns put back into the game. I am tired of Lights running into my legs and bad pilots in other class mechs. Maybe people will learn to pilot better.

That's been proven false. The community rapidly self-moderated their mech selection when the percentage indicator went live, even though there was no actual effect on queue times. People will play what they want to play, and a large enough population just wants to play as rapidly as possible.

And when all my mechs that I bought and had interest in were mastered, I went back to playing my Mediums and Heavies. So I was contributing to my Medium pool friends.

Anyone have an idea how this works with multi-faction support? After all, the Phoenix packs gave us several loyalty medallions implying we could somehow support more than one faction.
<BR>
Hopefully this "Unit" concept is loose enough that you can belong to multiple units, each linked to a different faction, but obviously only ever play a game representing one of them. That way I could have a Davion unit, Steiner Unit, Clan Unit, etc. and play WHAT I want WHEN I want, earning loyalty as a PLAYER.
<BR>
If I play a lot more Davion games I'll obviously accrue more loyalty for them and get more bonus/levelling for them, if I never play Kurita I'll never have any loyalty bonuses.... . LOTS of games (even the early Elite games) let you rank up in multiple organisations.

I have not a clue what a Gewehr 43 is, so I have absolutely no idea why I couldn't use one in that sim. Based upon my knowledge of the "lore" (aka history class), I would assume that is some sort of German equipment, but that is more knowledge than a lot of new MWO players have about the history of the game.

Don't assume that people know as much as you do, because most don't.

I do not assume that people know as much as I do, nor that I know as much as others do. I do, however, assume that everyone here has access to this wonderful invention called the internet.

I'm really tired of arguments like these.

"Wait, you didn't know that about lore? What do you MEAN you didn't google 'Mechwarrior' and read every ******* third-party fanboi site and sarna page BEFORE you sat down to play this F2P Canadian robot game!?!?!"

Crap. Argument.

You know, I think my 8th grade textbooks had something or other in them saying that a good consumer is an informed consumer. A quick 10 minute browse through the treasure trove of information about their purchase would solve pretty much everybody's problems.

My guess is that PGI assumed they were dealing with a player base that had an intelligence quotient substantially higher than that of your average invertebrate. That being the case, they made the logical assumption that folks playing a BATTLETECH based game would be well aware that, with VERY FEW exceptions, Clan Mechs and IS Mechs fought AGAINST each other and not ALONG SIDE one another.

If you were so foolish as to spend $255 for a "package" of Clan Mechs, assuming that you would be able to just hop right into your Kurita, Steiner, Liao or whatever company, then enjoy the realization that it isn't happening, at least not in ONE GAME MODE.

PGI has already stated that you will be able to use them in private matches or open matches as you see fit, but if you want to pilot a Clan Mech in CW then be prepared to join a CLAN UNIT.

Stop whining, it's Battletech not Hawken.

They sold people gold skinned mechs for $500.
Clearly they assumed the opposite.

Valid point.......

Still, as someone above said, be informed of the background of the game you're playing BEFORE dropping money and then whining about it later on.

The ONLY reason PGI has seen the level of success they have is BECAUSE of the history of this IP..........otherwise, Hawken, Titan Fall or any number of other Giant Stompy Robot games would have captured the ADHD leveled attention span of most younger gamers.

Looks like people will have to stop being universe detached Mary Sues and actually pick a side with disadvantages!

Edit: More realistically and less mean, all this means is that you will have to take the good with the bad of each faction.

with VERY FEW exceptions

You are right.

All those latter battles of the invasion where both sides were using whatever salvaged mechs they could from wherever they could never happened.

All those IS pilots (at least one in every book I have - usually 2-5) never piloted a salvaged omnimech.

Thank you for informing me of that.
It is good to know that every book I own based in that time period is, in fact, wrong.
(having said that - as most of them are written by Stackpole... you know the guy famous for...stackpoling?)

But lets face it - the "Lore" is a jumbled mess.
You can justify just about anything you want with it.
From everyone having clan tech - to no one having clan tech.

The lore was written by many people, each with their own ideas of what "Should" be.
There were people who wrote the clan invasion as if any battlemech was a rarity.
There were people who wrote the clan invasion as if battalions of battlemechs fighting eachother were common.

But no.
You know what "Should" be.

In this case, PGI dictates what will be, soonish. I have a feeling we haven't received more clarification on this yet because Clan packages are still for sale, and they are still flushing out the CW details...as a gunslinger, "I knows all about shootin' yerself in th' foot!" :)

If you can give your betrothed a 4th succession war, you own them all.

I know that within 24 to 48 hours of the Clan invasion there was no way in hell that any IS pilot that felt the urge just hopped in any Clan Omni Mech his little heart desired and went out blasting other Omni Mechs..........as the invasion progressed and Omni Mechs were salvaged, a FEW, note that doesn't mean an unlimited number, Omni's found their way into IS hands and that has never been in dispute.

Then there are folks like you.........."I paid for it so I should be able to use it and screw your lore"............PGI ultimately will make the decision, but for now it looks like they have made the correct one, keep your Omni's in your Clan unit and fight against other clanners or IS all you want, but don't expect to join your IS unit and fight clans, at least not immediately.

I don't have a problem with restrictions on what mechs you can use in CW, as long as it makes sense. It doesn't make sense that Clans can use whatever Clan mechs they want, regardless of WHICH Clan they are in, just like it doesn't make sense that Houses can use whatever House mechs they want, regardless of WHICH House they are in.

I really don't think it is viable either way, since most of us currently talking have 50+ mechs, and forcing us to use certain mechs is going to be a pain in the butt.

Instead, CW needs to incorporate Repair and Rearm. If you are a House unit and want to use a mech that is produced by a manufacturer in your House's "control" (i.e. you own the planet), then you have normal repair and rearm costs. If you instead choose to use a mech produced by a manufacturer from a rival House, you pay exorbitant amounts to both repair it and rearm it. If you then use a Clan mech, you pay ludicrous amounts to repair and rearm it.

That way, you have complete freedom to use whatever mech you would like, but controlling planets ACTUALLY MATTERS. Don't want to pay a crapton to repair and rearm your mech, buy American! (aka your current faction)
