Personally I think this is great, there are so many threads contradicting each other that the only conclusion I can come to is that everything is balanced :)

I've said my peace. LRM spam is out of control and until they fix it I don't really care to participate. It's invalidating 90% of matches and degenerated the game back into peek-a-boo pop-tarting where teams spend the entire match hiding behind rocks instead of actually playing. Boring, unproductive, and overpowered. Wake me when PGI gets a clue and tones down the ability for everyone to spam this crap.

Given the range of opinions that I have seen recently on LRMs, clan mechs, and other balance issues ... I think many of us are playing different games since we have such divergent experiences.

Perhaps this will be fixed with the next matchmaker release?

Here is my experience. LRMs are an irritant, can be effective, but not OP.

There are many ways to minimize the effectiveness of LRMs ... most just involve some team work ... just as making LRMs very effective also takes team work.

- stay near an ECM mech on your team ... if they aren't sticking near the group then ask if they would do so
- try to stay near cover ... a tall rock ... even other mechs on your team if they are bigger than you :) ... can offer cover
- fit AMS ... it makes a difference
- stay grouped ... if others have fit AMS too it makes an even bigger difference
- fit the Radar deprivation module

- you will take some damage ... it won't usually kill you but it will soften you up for others so you need to be careful

- if you are standing in the open ... taking so much damage from LRMs ... then you are doing something wrong. This happened to me a long time ago (probably a year or more ago - could have been LRMageddon) ... River City crossing the river from the plane side to the plateau on the other side in the river in an Atlas ... no cover ... dead before I reached the other side from LRMs. I learned that crossing the open by myself in a slow mech with opposing LRM assets was a bad idea.

A single volley from IS LRMs is easy to recover from.

A single volley from Clan tech LRMs is a continuous OP disruption of your ability to pilot your mech effectively.

Damage wise they may be equal, I don't know, I haven't checked, but the effect on your opponent from Clan LRMs is wayyyyy OP compared to IS LRMs.

Just another way that players that pay are/were rewarded.

and prepare to howl like mad on maps like Alpine (and others) when you are in an short or med range mech against a team with 3-4 LRM boats that can pick you off as you try to move across the large open spaces...

Different maps are better and worse for different weapon systems, which is why you should never only rely on one weapon type...

Besides Tunnel Rush only works if the team pushes out of the tunnel otherwise you pick them off 1-2 at a time... once they push out, they are again open to LRM fire. As a LRM boat you shouldn't be in the tunnel, you should be waiting outside... or don't boat, and take some other weapons that are effective where your LRMs are not...

So ... you don't move across the wide open spaces.

On Alpine you can organize your team and wait. The opposing brawlers will advance ... LRMs wait at the back (hopefully they misjudge the range and wait too far) ... the engage the enemy forces when there is a ridge/mountain/other terrain between the LRMs and the battle site (the back sides of the plateau ... or top of the plateau if they aren't coming up the valley both work). The tower ridge works, the bottom of valley ridge works ... the challenge of Alpine isn't that there is no cover to use when fighting against LRMs ... it is the fact that you need to be patient to get the opponents to engage where the LRM support effect is minimized. If the LRMs move up with the brawlers then you can push in to less than 180m and take them out at your leisure.

Alpine is more challenging because it take patience to use the terrain ... something that random pugs are extremely short on.

Dear PGI: please make Clan mechs available as trials soon, and consider maybe accelerating the Cbill/MC releases on them....because for as tired as I am of reading "OMG LRM!" threads....I am super sick of reading P2W accusations over Clan mechs, and they haven't even been out a full week yet.

I'm sorry you play in ELO hell? LRM spam isn't out of control now, and really the only time it WAS was when the code was borked and they were doing something like 15X normal damage due to splash.

Everything else is just people complaining.

I like LRMs and think they need a buff due to all of their counters. Sadly they shouldnt be able to fire without LoS and ECM shouldnt hard counter them.

There are multiple issues with LRMs for them and against them. The only time I have an issue with them is when my opponents have like 4-5 mechs with them and the pilots know how to use em. I feel the same way through when I come across 4-5 Meta poptarting mechs.

I prefer using LRM's since my connection and video card are a bit below standards. I find it a bit difficult to keep the reticle on targets.

It's funny how this joke keeps going on and on.

Waah, if I run through a 20m opening someone shoots lrms at me. Granted they'll probably never hit with all the hard/soft counters available that are all passive and require no skill to implement.

What about the guy that runs through a 20m open and gets hit by 4 mechs boating ppcs/gauss/ac20s. How many times do people try to come out of cover and instantly lose torsos/arms before their mech is even fully out.

LRMS are a joke of a weapon compared to the real problems in the game, one of which is ridiculous alpha spam. Poptarts are just an extension of that, more of a symptom instead of a cause.

Stop crying about lrms in the hope that PGI will be distracted away from your superalpha/poptart builds that actually need fixing.

They don't work. There's too much spam match after match. 90% of teams are using them, 25% of teams boat them on top of the 90% casual users. Every match it's just spam spam spam spam spam and brawling is extinct. GG PGI.

What's with Clan Wolf members? Where do you get these numbers from? Why are you in hysterics?

This is the third NEW thread on this topic I've seen today.

With the same people posting the same responses.

Everyone points out the various hard and soft counters to LRMs (which have more counters than any other weapon system), yet the OP completely ignores it all.

AMS, ECM, cover, teamwork, communication and torso twisting all render long range missiles all but useless. Use what you have.

Clan LRMs seem to have a faster velocity than the IS LRMs... sounds like they should slow them down to the IS LRM speed. Smurfy's says they're both 160 though, so maybe its just that they give the incoming warning later? I dunno, something is different other than just launching differently.

Unnecessary. Point out the problem and suggest a correction, you're not being helpful.

I agree with Capper here Lockwood, the bold was unnecessary.

WTB: Smoke Dispensers....highly spam-able walls of smoke that block out LOS and make it so that people can't aim properly, tell which direction you are moving, and how many buddies you have behind you.

Yeah, just imagine how popular those would become like 15 seconds after they came out. If you really think about it, a big part of the reason we have the "pop tart" meta as it's known is because ECM/countermeasure blobbing > LRM and spotter teams and "Pop Tart"/JJet and AC20 Zerg rush > ECM blobbing, and > than LRM and spotter teams because they can use enough counter measures without really giving up anything, but at the same time no countermeasures that screw over direct fire mechs currently exist.

Meh, the LRM boat moves to another target - or does what they should be doing, TAG or spotter backup.

This module helps hill humpers. I roll a flying LRM60 TW -- I like to get up close :)

Heat sensor counter
.
And for the whiners:
Don't move out into a position where you'll get creamed if you or your team can't be supported. This isn't the kind of game where you can take stupid risks and not get punished. This isn't that hard of a concept to grasp.

Agree with what? That Clan LRMs need to be slowed down? Because its already been mentioned that Clan LRMs go the same exact speed as IS LRMs. Anyone saying they travel faster is just plain wrong.

The main balance problem with LRMs is their fast rate of fire and high impulse. Thats all that needs to be fixed. ECM also needs to be nerfed bigtime.
