If Microsoft does have a dog in that fight, I'm sure they have no objection to those of us running Windows 7 on a partition of our Mac's hard drive. I boot Mac OS to do work, and I boot Windows 7 to play games and troubleshoot Windows issues.

You've got a Windows Licence, That's all MS will care about to be fair. If you buy Windows on it's own you'll be giving them more money than someone who bough a pre-built PC anyway.

Just boot camp it! Very easy to do and makes your machine incredibly versatile.

PC: Hi, I'm a PC.
Mac: Hi, I'm a Mac. Hey, what do you have there?
PC: Oh, just some games.
Mac: Oh neat. Can I play too?
PC: No.

You know, I actually like Windows 7 pretty well. I've upgrade most of my office to it and I haven't had much trouble with it. I just like Mac OS X better, personally. But, I run both on my Mac without issue, and I can play whatever I like without performance issues.

The game will run perfectly fine on a Mac. At least any Intel mac, which is just about any of them that would meet the minimum reqs anyway.

What it won't do is run on OS X.

If you want to run a Windows game, then buy Windows to run it on.

I wish so too. Though my mac is getting a bit old, probably too old, this is one of the games forcing me to upgrade to a gaming PC. But forever will I love mac much more.

There's no games on mac you know why? because Apple doesn't allow it.

Also, if you use a mac and only to use it to install windows, then you are a gigantic tool.

I've been using Win7 since the Developer Beta was released, and it's been nice to me. No longer have an MSDN account though because Her Indoors whined at me about it. So I picked up the £15 Windows 7 Ultimate when it came out as a backup. I like OSX for some things, but normally I mix it up between WIn7 for fun, and OpenSUSE for everything else.

To make a serious answer...

The Mechwarrior Computer Game IP is Owned by Microsoft after they bough FASA Studios.

As I understand it the rights to use the IP were then bought by Smith & Tinker (Jordan Weisman's New company after leaving MS).

The rights have then been sub-licenced to Piranha for them to make MWO.

I doubt MS are willing to allow the franchise to pop up on Mac, PS3 or any platform that competes. That's not touching the technical aspects. Though I would think they'd play with someone wanting to put it on XBox, but I'm sure I read that nobody was willing to give a console port a spin.

Edit :: Typos (5 month old children make you miss sleep).

More likely the developers chose to work with an engine that utilizes DirectX (which most do)
Meaning that OSX could not be supported without a completely new engine being built or using a potentially "gimped" one that allowed it to run on both DirectX and OpenGL.

Could be wrong, but that's generally the case.

As others have said, I would give bootcamp a try, Win7 runs surprisingly well on my 09 MBP, but probably not to the standard this game requires.

But I'm guessing this is a troll thread, in which case, 5/10 for making me reply.

Other games have gone the route of supporting Mac and PC, and the end result has been less than pretty. Blizzard is probably the biggest supporter of dual platforms, but their latest product incarnations (Starcraft, Diablo) are not innovating enough IMHO given the long development cycles. Supreme Commander 2 made a similar mistake of effectively reverse porting a console version of Supreme Commander (1). For MWO, I would far rather they focus on an awesome product for Windows and maybe come back in a couple years to support Mac

Wow plays on Mac OS. Eve Online plays on Mac OS. Apple has no problem with people writing software for their OS (i.e.: App Store).
And, I can't imagine anyone would buy a Mac just to run Windows only on it. That makes no sense. Run both if you like, but not just Windows. And I don't know what the fact that I have a gigantic tool has to do with any of this.
