Can We Have An Override Shutdown Button That Doesn't Suck?

Most of the time when I try to use the override shutdown it's practically worthless because of how little time it lasts. When it is needed I'll usually push it a bit preemptively (because that's the only to use it at all really) and fire some weapons, maybe wait a little bit to cool down before firing again because I know I'm running hot, fire some more weapons, and then LOL OVERHEAT SHUTDOWN because the override only lasts for 5 damn seconds!

It doesn't happen incredibly often (because I try not to run mechs that are too hot) but especially on maps like Mordor it's very annoying because if I hit that button it means I don't want to shut down, likely because I'm trying to fight off mechs and shutting down would mean guaranteed death which has happened multiple times.

I realize the consequences of overheating means potentially big internal damage, but if I'm in the middle of a fight and my override turns off because it doesn't last long enough and my mech shuts down that's almost always far worse, not to mention that shutting down from overheat causes some internal damage anyways.

I never use the override button. If you have to use it, you're better off not firing.

I liked the old mode better - Audio and Visual Warning with a short timed window to push the Override Button - way more dramatic than the new mode!

Why can't we just have a Toggle for on/off like we have for Missilebay doors?

I pretty much only use override when I'm about to die and trying to suicide myself. Works just fine for that. Otherwise, if you need to depend on that functionality, your build is probably faulty.

Right after toggles for TAG and AMS.

How Override works as it should be:
warning - you hit O everything is fine

How Override works currently:
you have to hit O before you fire your weapons that will overheat you - and press that button constantly ( 4-5seconds to not shutdown.

(for example you want to kiss them with your 6-ER Large Laser.... although damage is deadly - the beam will not be aborted. (duno how long it need to get killed by to much heat - if it last longer as 4 sec . you may fire your 8 PPCs for a second volley :D

Please correct me but afaik the only difference in having > 100% heat is that without override you are a perfect target - with override you are still walking - damage is applyed anyhow.

The override we had then was completely different, so that doesn't count. The override functioning as it does is newer than both.

You are wrong. If you are running on override you take heavy damage to random components. The amount depending on how far overheated you are. If you shut down you take much less damage and always to CT.

Unless you are sure to die and overriding can give you a few more shots at the enemy.

No Override and shut-down overheating causes little damage to CT internals only.
Overidden shut-down overheat causes much more damage applied randomly to any Internals. Your cockpit gets rolled and there you go. Can happen instantly or after a few seconds. Repeat "o" after 4-5 seconds to not shut down if you feel lucky...
Override has ist uses anyhow...

I had some situations where override saved me and i got the kill with that extra shot. Of course this is like throwing a coin and I die to overheating.

This has nothing to do with learn2play or optimizing a build.In fact, if you never come near 100% heat, your build lacks power and needs optimization.

For the cooldown, I think 5 seconds is fine, actually. But why not an option in the settings, from 3-15 seconds, whatever you like?

That is just plain wrong, obviously you should avoid needing to hit override but there are situations where you're better off hitting the override in order to finish off the enemy mech or if you know you're going to die anyways so you might as well get some more shots in.

I would actually use it more if it wasn't so annoying with it only lasting 5 seconds.

Yes, that actually is when I use it most often but if the damn override shuts off after I fire 1 volley and then my mech shuts down from trying to fire again shortly after then it's not a very good override function.

You can hold the button down, I use left alt.

It's usually for making a last stand when you are dead anyway, as others have said, but sometimes you are trading blows and you need just a little more damage to destroy a component, and you need it now.

Well, I guess that's good to know, but still kind of annoying because I do tend to use left alt for situational weapon groups, such as chain firing lasers so that I don't generate as much heat.

So now that arm lock has a toggle (after classic PGI buffoonery of replacing the old arm lock method with said toggle instead of adding it as an option, which needs fixing) can we get that override button that doesn't suck so much now?
