I'm assuming there will be a large influx of new game items like mechs and "accessories" and the oh so delicious Timberwolf. (dare you to call it madcat)
Will we all be able to join the battle of tukayyid?
Will we be able to join any of the clans?
Discuss..

Dev Blog 0 says the initial faction selection will be one of the 5 Great Houses. Somehow we'll make do with them old-fashioned Autocannon/5s.

And I call your Ac/5 and raise you two AC/10's!! Oh, what faces you can break with a pair of AC/10's.

Go with House Kurita since in canon, post Invasion the Bears and Snakes seem to get along quite well.

Maybe once the time comes the clans will become playable factions, and they'll open up a new metagame.
Maybe to simulate the fact that A) IS will have more players due to being an established faction, and

I'd guess the devs don't have a business plan that extends into a decade though....so they'll probably speed things up a bit at some point.

I like that idea but the tech edge is heavily in the favor of the clans. Urban battle and sabotage runs would be some nice adrenalin pumping missions. Like the saying goes a good clanner is a dead clanner, and the possibilities to relive the First Great Refusal, Operation Task Force Serpent is far too fun to pass up and being on the clan side. I miss the ability to depopulate Clan Smoke Jaguars of their warriors.
Then again I'm one of the Annihilated Clans so I really hold no allegence other then the full distruction of my once kinsmen...with the exception of the Bears...

They'll be a playable "alt-account" faction, but only to people who are above a certain level of achievement. Basically, veterans. Hopefully with no pay-to-join shenanigans, because that would break the entire concept below. It keeps the kiddies who always clamour for Clantech away, too, at least temporarily.
Anyways, this means that there will be a relatively few amount of Clanners running in the game, and they'll have to stick to team games on their own side. They will be generally more skilled and more experienced than the average player still sitting in the Inner Sphere houses, and they will have access to Omnimechs and better equipment.
The result? Those veteran players who were secretly given invitations to Clan accounts will then sweep everyone off their feet in the opening months of battle after the official release of the Clans. Everyone would be genuinely scared of them, in the exact same way the in-universe people are at the time of the Invasion.
There, you now have your Clans while keeping to the true spirit of the setting.
Oh, and to further keep out the kiddies, strict Zellbrigen or MISSION FAILED, YUU ARR DISHONORABUR.

Aside from after half a year of witnessing dezgra tactics veteran units tended to disregard aspects of Zell. I do think that the players should follow it to a good degree, as personal honor still had a lot of clansmen trying to duel one on one with a IS pilot. After a time they tended to let it break when all of a sudden two more of the IS guys buddies pile in. Grand Melee for all! STOMP STOMP

As soon as possible, nearly every player will drop their IS Mech and switch to munch and cheese that are Clan 'Mechs. It's just human nature.

Think about how awesome you'd feel if your team was able to hand a Clan team a defeat, even with the tech gap being so wide. It'd make great stories and some pretty awesome games, and it'd really set up the rivalry between the IS and the Clans.
