Other than everyone sh*tting their pants..

I'm assuming there will be a large influx of new game items like mechs and "accessories" and the oh so delicious Timberwolf. (dare you to call it madcat)
Will we all be able to join the battle of tukayyid?
Will we be able to join any of the clans?
Discuss..

It's a Marauder (MAD) mixed with the missile ears of a Catapult (CAT). MAD CAT. u mad bro?

Dev Blog 0 says the initial faction selection will be one of the 5 Great Houses. Somehow we'll make do with them old-fashioned Autocannon/5s.

It's hard for me to play of the Houses, I'm a clanner. So, until they allow Clan Ghost Bear, I am trying to decide which house I should join.

Yeah, They've mention in the interview a focus on a "Conquest Mode" so what I'm thinking will happen is when that time comes, players will be able to (re)choose their faction to retain with their Great House or be clanner, then let the battle of Tukayyid begin!!

And I call your Ac/5 and raise you two AC/10's!! Oh, what faces you can break with a pair of AC/10's.

Edit:

Go with House Kurita since in canon, post Invasion the Bears and Snakes seem to get along quite well.

I wonder too. To have the clans be a strictly NPC faction wouldn't feel fair.

Maybe once the time comes the clans will become playable factions, and they'll open up a new metagame.

Maybe to simulate the fact that A) IS will have more players due to being an established faction, and :) Clans have better equipment, in the early stages of the invasion it could be slightly uneven matches, say 10 IS vs 8 clanners or some such. It would fit with the whole bidding thing too.

I'm sure they're taking the clans and the player "defection" that will happen when they become a playable faction :)

That. I wish ComStar was a playable faction at this point (even though the Com Guards may as well not have existed before a time into the invasion). I hope they are implemented later.

I imagine that ComStar would be more of an admin faction.

That is a good question. From what I remember all the clan tech gathered from the very few battles the inner sphere won went to research or house units, units that would directly be fighting the clans, not ones in border disputes. Seeing as we're all mercs (house affiliated or not) I don't suppose you'd realistically (heh, yeah I know) have access to the new tech (endo steel, double sinks) until a year so later and then no clan stuff for five? (Not until after Tukayyid at least)

I'd guess the devs don't have a business plan that extends into a decade though....so they'll probably speed things up a bit at some point.

Simple, when the clans show up we kill them and take their mechs. Seriously, I think that you limit the amount of clan slots and make them always fight outnumbered. The lure of clan salvage will mean that people will always be game. Once enough people have clan equipment and some of the better IS mechs are available you open the clans to everyone. Urban environments will help negate the clan edge as well.

I like that idea but the tech edge is heavily in the favor of the clans. Urban battle and sabotage runs would be some nice adrenalin pumping missions. Like the saying goes a good clanner is a dead clanner, and the possibilities to relive the First Great Refusal, Operation Task Force Serpent is far too fun to pass up and being on the clan side. I miss the ability to depopulate Clan Smoke Jaguars of their warriors.

Then again I'm one of the Annihilated Clans so I really hold no allegence other then the full distruction of my once kinsmen...with the exception of the Bears...

Oh, I do think I know how they can handle the Clans best, but it would require that they hold off the Invasion until several months down the line.

They'll be a playable "alt-account" faction, but only to people who are above a certain level of achievement. Basically, veterans. Hopefully with no pay-to-join shenanigans, because that would break the entire concept below. It keeps the kiddies who always clamour for Clantech away, too, at least temporarily.

Anyways, this means that there will be a relatively few amount of Clanners running in the game, and they'll have to stick to team games on their own side. They will be generally more skilled and more experienced than the average player still sitting in the Inner Sphere houses, and they will have access to Omnimechs and better equipment.

The result? Those veteran players who were secretly given invitations to Clan accounts will then sweep everyone off their feet in the opening months of battle after the official release of the Clans. Everyone would be genuinely scared of them, in the exact same way the in-universe people are at the time of the Invasion.

There, you now have your Clans while keeping to the true spirit of the setting.

Oh, and to further keep out the kiddies, strict Zellbrigen or MISSION FAILED, YUU ARR DISHONORABUR.

Aside from after half a year of witnessing dezgra tactics veteran units tended to disregard aspects of Zell. I do think that the players should follow it to a good degree, as personal honor still had a lot of clansmen trying to duel one on one with a IS pilot. After a time they tended to let it break when all of a sudden two more of the IS guys buddies pile in. Grand Melee for all! STOMP STOMP

What happens when the Clans show up?

As soon as possible, nearly every player will drop their IS Mech and switch to munch and cheese that are Clan 'Mechs. It's just human nature.

Hoping there's an event held where for the first week or so we're only allowed to be IS while the Clans (developers/invited players) get to run and stomp around giving people an appreciation of the Clans military power and a good view of how the invasion actually felt, to fight a technologically advanced enemy.

Think about how awesome you'd feel if your team was able to hand a Clan team a defeat, even with the tech gap being so wide. It'd make great stories and some pretty awesome games, and it'd really set up the rivalry between the IS and the Clans.
