Anyone else think PGI should remove the Timber Wolf S variant and replace it with the D variant instead? I used to think the Timber Wolf S variant could be balanced with enough negative quirks but I no longer believe thats possible.

1) S variant is completely unbalanced and makes other mechs like the Summoner obsolete.
2) S variant is not timeline appropriate, while the D variant is.
3) Vlad Ward's Timberwolf works equally well as a hero mech and doesnt have jump jets.

There's also precedent for removing mech variants. Theyve done it before with the Centurion.

Quick answer no. -- Longer answer is put away the nerf cannon until.....

1. Clans have time to settle in.

2. We get the patches with fall damage and jump jet heat, 4x3 etc etc.

Just buff the Thor's agility and nerf the Mad Cat's, with the S getting the harshest treatment (specifically the JJ pods). If both happen, neither needs to be too extreme in itself, since the spread (and thus the Thor's advantage) will be the sum of both changes.

Wasn't that when we had a server wipe going into open beta? They added the Yen-lO, removed the Cent-AH, stating the AH was mech designed to test the hero mech before... well... hero'ing it.

Or we could not do that, and you could adapt to the clan version of the CTF-3D.

Yeah...

Some have suggested the TBR-S should have 5 fixed JJs just like the Summoner, two in each leg, one in the CT, and move the fixed critical slots that already occupy the legs to the torsos. The extra fixed weight would not allow it to take the 2CERPPC/Gausse combo without sacrificing armor, and would also force the Gauss into one of the arm hardpoints with the extra crit space taken up.

Or PGI could remove the hardwired JJs from all Thor variants.

Summoner has a mobility advantage...entirely...that is not an issue, drive them both... The summoner has superior torso twist, superior jump capability, and superior turning radius.

Seriously...Summoner is good...just learn to build or play it well.

Try 4xCERML + UAC10 + LRM15 with 2T ammo for each...if you cannot make that build work...well...I could see why you want to nerf the TW, people who have issues adapting want the world nerfed back down to them.

I'm IS only. I don't see much need from my end to nerf the Mad Cat, since I can kill them just fine, but in response to the OP the solution I presented seemed like the best option. If the Thor, relative to the Mad Cat, is under powered, then a slight buff to the former and a slight nerf to the latter seems like the best way to even things out a bit.

Looks like someone got a wrong mech XD.

No, there is no need to nerf Madcat at all.

Iti s overrated, and Dragonslayer will still PWN your precious Summoner and Madcat.

And how the hell do you even want people to accept it? Maybe someone just got it only because they wanted TBR with jumpjets.

You can't just go and substitute it with something else, because somone does not feel special enough in their Summoner...

There are a lot worse things in the game than perceived overpowered mech variants.

Timberwolf S with 5 jump jets, has exactly tha same pod space as a Summoner, the only difference being extra armour (12 tons vs 9.5 tons), and one more heatsink hardwired to the chassis. While that does make the 5 tons heavier timberwolf better, it's not that difficult to balance with quirks.

You're Out!

The CN9-AH was never actually released rather than removed - although many of us believe that it should be!

Dragonslayer needs a nerf too though. Both are overpowered. Using one overpowered mech as justification for the existence of a slightly less overpowered mech isnt going to fly...

What the hell are you talking about? Nothing I said was false.

1) Timberwolf S is definitely overpowered. Thats not even up for debate. Everyone knows it. The only question is how to nerf it. I personally think it should be removed though.
2) Timberwolf S variant isnt available in 3049, You can check for yourself on the Battletech Master Unit List.
3) Vlad Ward's timberwolf didnt have jumpjets.because it was a 3049 variant, and no timberwolf had jumpjets in 3049.

You can sugar coat it however you want, but it was definitely removed, because it was considered too similar to the YLW.

S is only good for the right sided meta build which alot of ppl started just useing s shoulders and ppc in torso so you cant get one shot neutered, only thing thats going to bring timberwolves in line, is maybe hard locking some jjs in legs so it wont be so much better then the sumoner/cataphract.

how would hardlocking the jumpjets fix anything? omnimechs get to choose what side torsos and legs to use. So they can simply choose to use one leg/sidetorso with 2 JJs and then use other leg/torsos without JJs.

Timberwolf is the money making mech. They made it better to sell higher priced clan packs and they pushed the cbill date way back too.Nothing is going to happen to this mech for atleast 6 months.By then new clan mechs will be for sale maybe even better.

The Summoner is bad because the Dragon and Awesome and Quickdraw is bad - a decision was made in its design to ensure it's sub-standard. A T-Wolf without JJs is just another average mech most of the time. It leaves the clans with no real answer to Victors and Cataphracts. If the Summoner was the only clan mech with JJs at all, it would still be inferior to the Cataphract.

This is the same mindset that made most the IS mechs crap. 'This mech is bad, this other mech isn't. Nerf the good mech until it sucks as bad as the bad mech! Then it'll be fun!'

No, now neither is fun. Buff the Summoner so it's competitive regardless of JJs. Don't nerf the Twolf.
