Devs EXCELENT patch!

Finally we can drop with larger groups and de MM seems very efficient, searching times are good. FUN FUN FUN!!

Haven´t tested much fall damage, yet.

I am not fond of the 4x3 rule, I like more freedom and posibilities, but it seems to level the playing field...making strategy more valuable. I guess we still have private matches for droping however we want for league games...

Also new buttons and shortcuts r welcome.

NICE WORK.

A step in the right direction.

Three concerns:
I worry "falling damage" includes forward momentum. E.g. a light falling 2 meters running 170 kph might take falling damage because it's velocity is over 32 feet per second. (Pure speculation on my part). If functioning as intended, this isn't an issue :-).

The matchmaker is releasing conditions too fast. Releasing the 4x3 quickly is fine. 4/4/2/2 is fine if same on both sides.. Elo and group matching should be slower.

Group matching: I think this isn't working. Maybe it releases conditions too fast, but 10 plus 2 vs 3+3+4+2 is really imbalanced. Our 10 man won fairly easily.

Even 10 +2 v 6 plus 6 was bad. We creamed em. In that setting no group is the lead group for the 6s. The 2 knows to follow the 10.
Might help if team Ui identified groups.

I still think
1 group per side of size 3-11 (or 12).
The group on each side must be within 2 players of the group on the other side. (E.g. 6 v 4).
Fill in with solos and duos.
Treat duos like singles.
If the mm can't find a match for a 10 man because 0 groups of size 8-12 are playing, that's life.
Still should find groups pretty often. Much more than the old 12s only queue. And 5 mans should have zero trouble (3s common). And with 5s having easy match finding, 7s should be pretty reliable too. That means you have 8 players before you have to risk splitting (or you can accept longer queues, player choice). Which is two full groups if 4.

An improvement over the old matchmaker without the downsides of the new one.

Russ said in one of his Tweets that they were looking into this functionality (or that at least it was a good idea...cannot remember the exact wording)

Minor nitpick here. It is kind of strange to suddenly have a gauge that measures ft/s when everything else is metric.

I'm liking the new JJ fall damage mechanics. They are an excellent start. Now, the next step would be:
  • Further lower fall damage on lights and mediums
  • Increase fall damage on assaults some more
  • Give JJs (especially in when installed in quantities) greater freaking lift.

(stuff in the preceding post)

Don't forget to submit a ticket to support@mwomercs.com with a current dxdiag run and the current omicron file, and if you crash to desktop, the crashdump file ... while it might take a few weeks for a persistent problem to be addressed, all of this information helps them recreate your specific problem and isolate the real issue. Chances are, there are dozens of other mechwarriors having (or who will have) the same problem who don't submit a ticket.

@cimarb

Obviously you didnt even read my post.

Im ok with falling damage. But im not ok with damage from running over rough terrain without even using jj or running over cliffs.

And i never complained about not beeing in the biggest possible group. With 2 members i never was. Most of the time we had 4 men teams against us, That was hard but doable. Now we face a 10 men organized team on the other side. There literally is nothing we con do to influence the outcome of the match. Its all up to the question if our 10 men group will be betetr then the enemy one or not. Also the enemys 10 men group wont ignore us and challenge our big team. Theyll crush us first because ist easy and then fight our own big group.

Not to understand that this is a probem means just ignoring facts like earth orbiting sun.

Why do you think so many small groups disconnect wen they get thrown in the Group queque?
Why do you think there are only 4-6% Lights in the game most time, where it was 20-25% before the patch?

A solo queue for solo players is literally the best thing to happen to MWO this year. Keep those queues separate PGI. ;)

Edit: OK, now I do not know if the solo queue is still solo only as Russ told us it was yesterday. Does anyone know the truth of this?

Yes it is...but you can still get a group of 4 or less in the "Solo" Que...just no bigger...and if one team has a 4 man group then the other team should have one too...

Things to keep in mind on the MM...PGI said to expect some hot fixes over the next 2 weeks or so. I have seen some good suggestions from people on here for some tweeks...(especially the one about identifying group size and making it 2 up 2 down)..hopefully its stuff PGI can do..if not keep in mind it may not be doable with the way things are set up and I for one will take what we have now over what we had before any day of the week...Am really happy overall with the new patch....

I'm very happy with the patch..except they did not fix the LRM bug.

With a positive lock, Artemis and even NARC'd the first salvo of LRM's waterfalls into the ground.
The second tracks normally.

FIX THIS BUG PLEASE!

If lasers ALWAYS missed their first shot on a new target the heavens above would shake!

Dead to rights with that shiny new AC? First round always misses!

Heads would roll.

LRM's miss and all that can be discussed is the damn match maker! (Which works better than ever.)

Priorities please!

You can find it in the nechwarrior online folders ... I can't recall exactly where, but it isn't too hard to dig out.

If I can remember, I'll find the exact path next time I'm on my gaming rig.

I did a small test with my jump-able thunderbolt. HPG middle platform to bottom, 1/2 jj, other 1/2 freefall...dmg. It makes things a little tricky for some lights who try to avoid lrm fire...would favour a little adjustment to freefall dmg, esp for lights.

Why do you think so many small groups disconnect wen they get thrown in the Group queque?
Why do you think there are only 4-6% Lights in the game most time, where it was 20-25% before the patch?

Your example light was an Ember, which has JJs. I have never, ever had a problem with my Ember taking leg damage unless I pushed my jump far too much. In that case, it is MY fault I take damage. Regardless, my quick comment on proper use of JJs stands.

More importantly, you have a very poor attitude about your role on a team. I solo drop a lot, and I believe I have a pivotal role in every one of them. If I do not succeed as an individual, whether it is a win or loss, it makes the role of every other person on my team that much more difficult. People like you, or those you are talking about at least, are the reason stomps happen to begin with: "oh poor me, things are not in my favor, so I guess I will drop out and try to find a match to carry me instead".

If you are separating from the 10-man, or expecting them to even know WHO is the smaller group, it is your own fault. If you don't like being in the smaller group, get in a bigger group. I used to drop solo quite a bit, and that is the smallest group possible. I preferred to have as many groups in the match as possible when I used to drop solo, but now that I cannot "opt in" to the group queue, I will probably drop solo a lot less. I would rather be in a 2-man with an organized 10-man on my team than have to deal with 11 other people that refuse to group up because they think it will prevent a stomp (which is definitely NOT the case).
