Are the default madcat builds even good? I got the Prime, C and S , from ala Carte clan sale thing.

This is the "non-meta" thread. That "laser vomit" build has been the go-to TBR since at least July (5 CERML back then, they cost less heat) or August.
It is falling out of favor lately though. I would say "Gauss vomit" (Gauss plus 5 or 6 CERML) has made huge inroads in replacing it in recent months.

My favorite so far is the Gauss Wolf. He's still a poptart sniper, but he doesn't have PPCs.

Simple. The stock loadout Timber Wolf-Prime.
That Gauss Wolf is a waste of potential, honestly. You got 450% heat efficiency lol, I would leave dual gauss to other mechs (namely, Mad Dog-C). Stick with 1 gauss maybe, and add some pulse lasers in the other hardpoints at least... maybe even a T-Comp?

dingdingding!!!
I NOW run stock omnipods on all my timberwolfs and scare crow (only kept the SC prime)
Its not a bad setup, you can optimize it, but...500+ damage, 1 or more kills6-10 assists, component damage, nice paychecks unless I screw up or we get stomped...something weirdly nice about that xp bonus as tiny as it is..should be higher to encourage more stock omnipod builds
There are some GREAT stock builds BTW

TBR-PRIME
A whole lot of painful convergence happens 60-100 meters out

I have the least meta Timber in all the world!
It's actually shittons of fun to play, if you do it right.
One day, I said to myself, how can I fit the biggest ballistic weapon, the biggest energy weapon, and the biggest short-range missle weapon all on the same mech?
So I did.
1x UAC/20 (4tons ammo)
1x SSRM 6 (1 ton ammo)
1x ERPPC
Ammo is sufficient, even in long engagements, trust me. It's balanced. It's got short, medium, and long-range all covered. It's fun as hell.

Ran that last night due to the huge amount of lermers...I swear some nights the ONLY safe thing is run a lrm boat and hide a lot.
Runs very cool 3 sml's on left/right mouse, lrms mouse 3-you'll over heat if you think you can alpha away.
lerm till the lights show up, those smalls are crazy effective at legging lights and brawling

Case in point, WHO gets a 1000+ damage in a locust? When looking at screenshots I always see direwolfs, timberwolves with damage scores less than 100

Any thoughts on making the D variant more viable? Half SSRM half SRM? All SRM? Is Artemis worth it on the SRMs if I decide to go with them?
Heck, does anybody just run the stock D as it is?

Personally, I find that 4 CSSRMs is impractical because of the required lock on time, the potential for the target to hide behind a hill, etc. But that's with the D variant which has two ERPPC. In your case though, the four medium pulse would provide some close in damage while you get the lock for the SSRMs, so it might be more viable.

The Gaussjager's and Gaussapult's big brother, the Gausswulf.
2 Gauss Rifles. 60 shots. 30 strikes of 30 pinpoint damage. Madness ensues!
You can go TBR-S and swap one ton of ammo for that one jumpjet, if maneuverability is an issue.
Going for the TBR-S torso is not recommended, as it severely reduces the ammo that you can stuff in.
Incoming pseudo-advertisment. Skip if you wish.
All comparisons are based on the Gaussjager (credits to MetaMechs and Gman129).
Advantages:
- Speed! Screw 69.9 km/hr, go 89.1 km/hr! Re-positioning is so much easier! (all figures are with Speed Tweak)
- Armor! Not in quantity, but in quality - you actually have a shield-side now, thanks to the power of Clan XL™ !
- Maneuverability! Not just in speed, but also in the JJs* - poptart, high ground - you say it, the Gausswulf can do it!
- Side-poking! No more exposing your whole body to attack!
- Surprise! No one sees a Gausswulf coming - they'll be expecting dual Gauss on CPLT-K2s and JM6s, but rarely do they expect such on a TBR!^
^Results may vary. Advertisement not responsible for any case of 'not surprised' leading to a quick and messy death by dual gauss-splosion. Always shield with your left side, and gauss responsibly.
Disadvantages:
- Ammo! Having a bigger Clan XL™ has its downsides, and one of them is reduced space for other stuff - only 60 tons maximum, and even less if you add Jump Jets. Then again, if you don't nail all of those shots, you're doing it wrong.
- High-poking! No, the TBR cannot flip its upper arm actuators upside-down, stop asking.
- High chance of being focused! No matter what you do, the TBR is still very high up the 'Kill it' lists of pretty much everyone and their TT-focused friend, so it's very hard to go anywhere without the enemy noticing it.
- Tonnage! Ten tons more than the Gaussjager - necessary to maximize the benefits of Clan XL™.
- Cooldown! IS Quirks reduce their cooldown by 7.5%, to 3.7 seconds from 3.8 s*
Buy one now, for the low, low cost (cough) of 16,483,647 C-bills!
*cough*
Anyways, so much fun to be had in this build. It's much harder to stop this gauss-spamming heavy than its equivalent - I mean look at it, it has almost the same amount of ammo as its IS equivalent, yet it's much faster, more armored, has a shield side, can even hold JJs in exchange of some ammo...
Damn. Here's the pinpoint instant damage that the Clans sorely lack - enjoy!

Can be argued that has low ammo. It does have low ammo, but, while it last, its incredibly funny to pilot

I see the point of ur build, but honestly i think that this other distribution works better:
TBR-C
It sacrifices 1/2 ton of ammo and 1/2 ton of armour in the arms to place a cAP for ur Streaks. It also change the cMPLas to cERLLas so u dont get out-flanked or out-ranged. Also repositioned a bit the ammo racks to decrease the change of being critted in them. Now is less specialized in mid-close range, but way more flexible to adapt to the battlefield.

I take your dakka build and raise you EVEN MORE DAKKA!
(Saner version)
Shield with left side again, and unleash maximum shelling.
Watch out for ammo 'splosions, though.
For the saner version, you can trade one more ton of ammo for one more ERML, though that will hurt your ammo reserves and ramp up the heat. Take one more for a DHS, but that's already approaching not-fun levels.
In all seriousness, though, remove the SRMs and add a few more ERMLs, and you're already at a dakka-type meta build. Less pinpoint damage, more DPS, and runs pretty cool.
