I get being frustrated about the delay -

However, I'm very grateful we got an honest ETA and an honest breakdown of why.

I'm good with that. I'll have a new map before I have a Dire Wolf ;)

I don't know... I'm not that enthralled about it.

I mean, a factory map seems cool, but this one looks like a bunch of recycled elements and nothing else.

I'd suggested way back when that I'd like a factory map, but I was thinking more along the lines of a sprawling mostly indoor map filled with low-ceilinged tunnels, iron forges pouring molten metal, and the surface being a veritable death trap.

Kind of what I'd read about in the Battletech Novel Operation Excalibur, or another similar example, like the mines you see in the Battletech cartoon, episode 4.

So just like how hot maps give energy boats a disadvantage, or urban maps give LRMs a disadvantage, this map would reduce the effectiveness of ranged weapons and jump jets.

From what they've shown us of the new map, it feels like a massive Cut-and-paste job. Like Crimson Straight but with the middle mountain ridge removed.

So, reading between the lines, does this mean that no maps have been worked on at all since HPG came out (in December 2013). No "almost finished" Jungle Map, or 'Mech Factory Map like we've been told before.

If that's so, then FFS PGI, stop saying your working on things when you aren't.

It means that as soon as pgi decided to work on clans EVERYTHING else got shutdown so yes

I've been advocating this as well. Why not just update existing maps with alternative light settings (e.g. day / night / sunny / overcast / cloudy) and if possible different weather conditions (e.g. storms / foggy / mist / clear / etc) to assist with the stale list of maps.

I don't think I've ever seen PGI comment on this suggestion before and I have a feeling it's 'beneath' them - "We have to create awesome maps from scratch!"

The whole "small dev team" thing is wearing thin with some. Many within the community have experience with things like making maps
HOBBYISTS do this in days and weeks. That means non professional people in their spare time.

The statement tells me that they can sure as heck not have a hard time getting content out when they want to. It also tells me that stuff like clans is a MUCH higher priority than things like cw.
So they CAN produce content quickly when they feel it's a priority.

My question I guess is when does cw become a priority for them?

Which Package?

Literally the only thing they can do is a "Remaining Unseen" Pack with the Marauder, Wasp, Warhammer, ect in it. A clan Reinforcement pack with some of the remaining favorites like the Vulture and whatnot. And then there's maybe an IS reaction pack that they can do... And that's only for the current 3050 timeline, anything else really and they'll have to fastforward us to 3059ish.

If they put in an unseen pack they'd have my money in a heartbeat [sadly I missed out on the first phoenix pack... but I'm slowly getting the mechs with c-bills.] and I bought founders and the clan pack... Warhammer and Marauder are 2 of my favorite mechs, and that's about it. but I'm a huge fan of 3025 era mechs.

Back on topic with the map situation. This is good news, even if it's a 60day minimum, that means in 2 months+ well have atleast one more new map, and that doesn't mean they're not working on the other one too. So it'll be nice to have some more maps. I really hope the community mapping idea comes to pass, because honestly, community maps are one of the huge things about Mechwarrior games and the competitive scene.

Rumor I've heard is that it will be a Comstar mech pack.

Pretty much

bottom line is, if they can't monetize it, it's not much of a priority to them. At least that's how it seems. They shut down production on everything for 6 months to put out the equivalent of an expansion pack (by expansion pack I mean the addition of 8 mechs)

Also I thought it was notable that it takes PGI 2-4 months to put out a new map. So by those stats, a map that was over 50% complete is still taking a minimum of 60 days to complete

and all we here of new news is a map maybe here in months but the modules {purchasables in particular} will double up and become more essential to easy mode meching now than ever.

Sums it up pretty nicely. We've had one new map added.in almost a year

This isn't opinion. This isn't up for debate.
It is what it is
In nearly 3 years of development we have 10 unique maps.
That's it. Again, not opinion and not open.for debate.

This doesn't take into account cw and other missed deadlines.

So you expect me to believe that a multi-million dollar professional game developing company with (their own words) decades of experience can't design more than 10 maps in nearly 3 years?

Maybe my personal expectations are too high I guess

A new map? When it's in the game then I'll belive it. Not that hard to recolor a texture into "snow" or to make lightning in a map dark as sh-"night." Watch canyon network load on the drop preperation/ready screen and you'll see it glitch with "snow" before it turns into that brown-ish color it is.
