Russ Bullock, after listening to DEVLOG#6, you mentioned you wanted the community to share ideas for new maps. This work is already done. I created a thread last year showcasing many different map concepts and the community has spoken (1200+ votes). PGI, I hope this thread was successful at giving some potential ideas for new maps. Enjoy... Posted Image

Reasons why very little people have much faith in PGI's managment.

Its not even a shock to hear how disconnected they are with their community...

More maps with green forests. For the love of God, we need more green in this game!

And a huge urban map without any dominating terrain features like mountains, craters or lakes would be nice. Just a huge city with buildings, freeways, railroad tunnels and parking lots.

It is really a nice, colorfull work, but it would be nice to ask the newer players too... Like me..

And based my own mind/brain: no closed space (like big cave, hangar), flying platforms, and to depressive maps (dark wastland). Because, you could me tell everything: It's not real, just a game./Just some pixels./You are IN a Mech.. No matter, my brain would say: No, I fell claustrophobic or I have horror of heighs, or I am depressive enough..

So my judgement:

1. Space Platform: B - Nice, but more lights..

2. Lunar Obrevatory: NO = HPG

3. Aerospace Hangar: NO (closed space)

4. Deep Cavern: NO (closed space) (PS: If, it is more than 1,5-2 km high, we could talk about..)

5. Badlands: B - Bit boring, A - Much higher sun and animals/moving plants (strong winds)

6. Planetary Rings: A - But more lights..

7. Red Planet: A

8. Metropolis (SGA ?): B - If there are smaller buildings too, anohter case: NO

9. Green Valley: A+

10. Marshes: A

11. Mining Colony: B - Bit similar to HPG.

12. Jungle Station: A

13. Asteroid Base (Reddick?): NO = Tourmaline Desert

14. Ancient City: A

15. Redwood Forest (Endor?): NO - Blindfight

16. Castle Mountain: A

17. Biodome: NO - Flying platforms!

18. Stormfront Farm (Kansas ?): B

19. Dustbowl (Tatuin ?): A - More lights.

20. Firestrom (California ?): A - BUT NO BURNING ANIMALS!

21. Event Horizon: NO - Too depressive..

22. Tropical Island: A - Some clouds need..

23. Jungle Palace: A - (But the New Jungle Map could be similar).

24. Underwater Ruins (Waterworld ?): A, with more sunlight: A+

25. Spaceport Facility: A

26. Nuclear Wasteland: NO - Too depressive..

27. Desert City (Abydos ?): A+

28. Cloud City (SW ?): NO - Flying platforms!

29. Mountain Base (007 ?): C - Too high, too mountain..

30. Outpost Colony: B - More lights

40. Abandoned Refinery (SW3 ?): B - But, no jump-high stages

41. Solatis Arena: D - Should stay for "Arena Mode"

42. New Prowidence: Bottom: A / Upper: NO.

43. Air Base: A

44. Frozen Fortress: A

45. BattleMech Factory: NO - Too expensive to fight there and closed rooms.

46. Waterfall City: B - Bit similar to River City

47. Naval Shipyard: B - If it is not flying.

48. Derelict Mine: A

49. Fog Forest: B

50. Monolith Desert: A

51. Apocalyptic City: NO - Too depressive.

Beautiful Pics and idea Sadly Most of us Know that they have a Plan they are going with it and are really just asking for opinions For appearances' sake....Remember 3rd Person View and Coolant Flush they were not supposed to be in the game or so we were told

Edit*.... I have Heard that they will listen to Developers' 12 Year old Children though

Well people keep saying that the community has been 'brainstorming' ideas about maps and other concepts since beta... but PGI just wanted to do their own thing and ignore the community all this time... so what has changed now?

Often you have to not actually take what is said by people for granted but reason what is behind what they are saying.

The fact that the maps they are working on are greeted with people thinking it's great , but these maps are not exactly what the community really wanted are they? (just more of the same style of gameplay ). It is probably more a case of any map would be great just for the change of scenery. It does get awfully boring playing the same old maps after all.

Don't you guys look at the list of current and future maps PGI has done for this game.

At least two of those concepts listed above have been already implemented :P (HPG and Tourmaline)
The two maps they are now working on are also listed here (Forest and Mech factory).

I think they've been looking at this very thread for inspiration.

In fairness, Lunar Observatory -> HPG Manifold

(disagreements about architectural styling and physics aside...)

edit: ack! what Edu said. tho i suspect the mech factory isn't going to be what most are expecting.
edit2: as is referred in the vlog. I'd think Mech Factory is better titled Germanium Refinery or something~

Here's my vote. Yes to all the above maps. But at the rate PGI delivers maps, we'll have four more by the time my nine year old graduates college.

I'm actually a bit surprised that Ice Ship didn't make it on there... would be a remake of a cool mission from Mech2: Mercenaries, but.

The concept was that you were fighting on the surface of, or inside an ice ship. You could actually fall off into space too. No gravity, too, so mechs would be running along at silly speeds. Some folks might remember this!

And, yes, a straight up solaris arena. This is a team deathmatch game more or less. Just stick a few prop trees in and let the best team win. :P

Not bad suggestions but some of those maps just sound a lot like what we have right now like HPG manifold or tourmaline desert. The underwater maps and space maps I would imagine would take more time to work on since I don't believe they have implemented the gravity changes that maps have affecting the mechs, plus what would lrms or srms do underwater? I really like the idea of deep cavern or any other maps set underground or indoors. But for now I would be satisfied if they just made night versions of a few maps or made a blizzard version of alpine peaks.

Good repost. I was immediately thinking of your thread when I was watching the vlog6 and was surprised Russ didn't know about it...

I hope someone from PGI responds to your thread and acknowledges your excellent work.

My view is that CW is supposed to represent us fighting over hundreds, maybe thousands of planets, therefore the more different maps we can get the better.

Give the community the tools to build maps, there are lots of talented modders and map makers out there who could speed up the process.

Two things that all the new maps need (and the older ones need implementing) are the removal of the invisible walls (Seriously, I know of no other game affected by these) and the implementation of destructible terrain.

Oh, and scaling. Proper scaling, no more of these 3-4 story high lamp posts.

Apart from that I like these ideas.

With the number and variance of the maps in the original idea it would be hard to try to think of a map type that was not similar to one of those above.

G'day,

Nice work. I guess the map has to represent the reason why the mechs have been droped there in the first place. Looks like you have most areas covered. Maybe include the usual suburbia or city slums where most people live these days. From my native Australia, outback Oz is certainly one of a kind. How about the open steppe that we see in Russia, open savanah of Africa or the rolling fields and forests of Europe. My appologies if you have already covered these in your post. Since you seem to have got most environments, I'll just add:

52. Antartica or the Arctic. (Hoth map?).
53. Pure desert, like something out of Dune. (Include the sandworms?).
54. Tolkien's Middle Earth. (Or some place where New Zealand gets shot to pieces).

Regards,
Draughluin
