1: What is the default time to get target info on something when you push "r"?
2: Does the targeting computer only affect missile targeting time or target info gathering time?

3: Unrelated question: When did the community arbitrarily decide to just start going for legs non-stop? Did I miss a community vote or thread or something about it? Like seriously every game its like "hey lets leg Scrotacus that would be funny"! Is it mech specific? Are people racist against Novas or have a Nova leg fetish?

I can answer question 2. Targeting computers shouldn't do anything for missiles, so just target info gathering time should be affected.

Question three, if there was, I missed it. Personally, I go after a Nova's ct if all possible, nor have I seen a Nova get legged first before dying. That's just been my observation though. Sorry couldn't help ya on question one...I never really paid attention.

Answer to question 3.

Why kill 3 torsos when you can kill 2 legs?

*Also, when an Inner Sphere mech goes up against a Clan mech they are normally out gunned. It makes the most sense to bring them down as fast as possible.*

I know this one varies on distance. The further you are, the longer it takes.

I do not, however, remember what said times are.

The Nova has very large legs in proportion to its chassis. Also they are a jump capable mech. These two factors combined means more damage than normal is going to go to the legs.

Actually this is the case for alot of clan mechs now that I think about it.

The trouble with the Nova is that it's low slung ape arms require you to expose an obscene amount of your profile to be able to shoot, meaning you can't use that OP ferro-dirt armour to protect your legs.

Conversely, I almost always lose arms before legs in my Nova, and arms or CT are my preferred target when engaging them.

Do you brawl in it? Do you run full leg armour? Swift(ish) medium brawlers can be problematic for slower mechs. Maybe they prioritise your legs, like a light mech.

question#1: Not sure, but combine Command Console, BAP and the Target Info Module it felt nearly instant. So I can be wrong, but it needs testing or needs a dev post to confirm the timing. I tried looking with searches and was surprised to not find anything definitive yet (but then again, I might need to look harder if that info is already out there).

question#2: For exact numbers I've only seen them on the most recent Patch Notes for that.

question #3: I'll often test legs to see what I can guess of the armor values there. And I am often surprised by how many builds under-armor the legs.

In many situations, it is prudent for the shooter to focus on the weakest link to drop a target as quickly as possible.

And many experienced players will front load torso armor and know to torso twist to absorb damage, so if they happen to choose to cram in more equipment in exchange for leg armor, then the legs can be fair game IMHO; since most of the time legs can be hit from more angles then trying to get behind them to get at the back torso, I recommend that everyone should run max (or near max) leg armor (unless ur as crazy as me, sometimes ;))...

Novas legs feel like they're made of tissue paper. Big leg hitbox, easy to hit from any angle(such as any direction the Novas isn't looking), and a Nova using JJ will already have damaged his legs a little. My Nova gets legged all the damn time, it's a good way to deal with this mech. Be sneakier!

Legs, arms, sidetorsos, center torso, head, it's just got bad hitboxes all around. It's still an incredibly fun mech to play though.

When someone is shooting at you and you're jumping around, a lot of the shots will tend to hit lower than originally intended. Combined with falling damage, and you're legs get beat up. Once they're beat up, people will intentionally try to leg. I know there are some, but I don't think many people specifically aim for the legs of anything over 40 tons unless they notice the legs have already taken significant damage and will be easy to finish.
