Easiest counter to any DW is an Ember.

Not really. 1v1 a DW should be able to kill an Ember without any trouble whatsoever.

The best counter to a DW is to gang up on it. Attack it from different angles. Always make sure you have one mech firing into its back armor. And it will go down fast.

The worst way to counter a DW is to try to fight it by yourself. You will lose even if theyre only a half decent pilot. Of course theres tons of players in DW that are terrible.

Its silly to mix weapons though. Its better to use all LB5Xs because its frontloaded damage and you can do your full damage to poptarts when they jump up. LB5Xs have no ghost heat either so you can use 5-6 of them.

No it's not, this build has up to 1.5 times as much DPS, one on one the mixed build would beat the 6 LB 5-X build. Ultra AC5s have a short enough burst that you're going to hit a poptart with most or all of it regardless, you might not get a double shot but you wouldn't get that with an LB 5-X anyway.

Killed a DW just yesterday one on one on alpine peaks. I just got behind him and stayed there. I mean it took a while to kill him because I only had erppc and 2 med lasers, but he died without really touching me. So yeah, spider> direwhale. We are getting back to the assault>heavy>med>light>assault....slowly.

Some of you are over thinking this waaaaaay too much. It's for fun. This challenge was laid down in various clan threads so I decided to give everyone a single thread to put their money where their mouth is.

Stop with the it ain't fair stuff. It's not like this is an official tourney or anything. Some of you need to remember it's a game. It's for entertainment. I think some of the results will surprise a few on both sides though.

Take it for what it is. A community challenge for some fun and quasi research. Yeesh guys

Isn't this putting the clanners at a disadvantage, because they do not get the option to counter your counter build?

Thats the point if its SOOOO OP / P2W, then it shouldnt matter.

People complaining about killing Direwolfs, Masakaris and Timberwolves all need to learn how to NOT play chicken with them and hit them from the sides and rear. Those 3 mechs have so much exposed surface area on the rear and sides that they make even crappy max range SRM shots look accurate....

Trail of Clan Tears (from just yesterday):
- Oxide beats a Direwolf (slow boy's team runs off on Tourmaline, my scout gets behind him and rides the whale till his back falls off)
- Thunderbolt 9S dominates Timberwolf (Timberwolf gets stuck in River City, I keep picking away at him as he tries to fight through the city, in which several times he backed up or thought he was in cover and took hits to the side boxes)
- Thunderbolt 5S dominates Timberwolf (Timberwolf gets stuck in Frozen City, similar to River however he kept cresting the hill and I kept focusing on his LRM launchers... they stuck out like wack-a-moles, begging to be hit...)
- Grid Iron snipes Masakari (Ran my Grid Iron w/ Gauss on Tourmaline, everytime he turns to find me, I ran off. It took a bit to be honest, but Left Arm, Left Torso and finally CT made it pop, I do give credit to the ECM Raven near me who helped burn down his armor)

I still see a lot of lip smacking but not much wrench turning :D (for those that have posted designs I'll get to work at building a counter this evening)

Are the counters going to be say a brawler that is just as good as the brawler they design or say a sniper to keep at range?

I'll keep it simple and leverage the inherent advantages of clan mechs, speed, range, and damage.

I'll build a comparable IS mech that, in a game, would do just as well, if not better, than the clan build. If you build a sniper mech, I'll do my best to match range and efficiency at that specific range. If you build an "all-around" mech, I'll try my best to match it with a balanced loadout of some kind that is able to compete at all ranges, if you build a short-range brawler I'll do my best to build a short-ranged brawler.

I'm really just wanting to see if I can do it and with all the smack talking about clans being "op" I'd like to see how IS really stacks up with builds and such. This goes beyond simple DPS numbers though (both ways). A mech with 60 LRMs might have a better DPS than a mech with a direct fire loadout but there's also limitations that come with that LRM build as well. It's not about cheesing the DPS numbers to "prove" something.

It's just for fun guys. Although maybe we can make it into a contest of some kind and convince PGI to implement a few designs as champion mechs or something like that. Plus it will help other players see the kinds of builds that are being used, can be used, countered, etc.

I'm not about to hop on the all clans are op bandwagon but I do want to see you try and match my favorite DW build.

One other thing, hero mech are in play as well for builds. I don't want to hear any arguments about "those aren't available to everyone because they're pay to own mechs" coming from anyone who bought a clan pack lol

OK thanks that makes sense. Might through something in when I get some time.

I`ll play...

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b0a767161d4229b

I don`T think it`"OP" or anything, this is just my go-to TW... most will probably even say it`s "bad", but everything is on there for a good reason. and in pugs it averages 600 dmg /match, and is quickly becoming the go-to build for many of the guys I regularly play with for pug play. It`s not a dueling mech per se, but I wouldn`t be too bothered to have to take it into one.

But I also know exactly where it`s weaknesses lie, and could take one apart pretty easily given the proper type of mech. Off the top of my head I can think of 3 "styles" that make it easymode to kill and another 2 or 3 that should work somehow or other.

Ironically, it`s very strongly based off of one of my more effective IS builds, but it just does literally everything but max armor better even if it runs a bit hotter.

Let`s see what gets thrown it`s way, I have active premium so timezone and constraits allowing a 1vs1 isn`t out of the question. Though i don`t consider myself a duellist or aspire to solaris fame, I just want to capture PlanetX so our population doesn`t run out of shaving cream :D

Everybody here already knows that the HELDCGGFTFFOHITCE-GNPGC Clan doesn't throw down for asinine forum bragging. It's uncouth. That being said the this build has been draining brains.

Frankly, I look forward to everyone out there finding out both who and what exactly is some of the real. I'm not hear to make baseless claims. I know that. You know that. At the end of the day if you still think that isn't the case then let me remind you that this isn't some kind of game. This is the high elo play that we should all aspire to.
