Is It Any Surprise That Light Mechs Are Routinely <10% Of The Queue Right Now?

That's kind of the point, though. In Conquest, Lights have a role. Their role is Robert Paulson, I mean their role is to cap and cap pull.

Even then lights only really have a role when they operate in small groups. Otherwise it simply takes too long to capture bases (~60 seconds to neutralize a full capture when alone, then ~60 seconds to capture through "neutral ground" to own the location).

Fully flipping a base solo takes 20% of the match (3 minutes). Clearly, lights dominate Conquest.

And, as you mentioned, the extremely small size of maps on top of the open nature of the maps doesn't exactly increase the likelihood that a Light mech is going to function well.

I don't understand why people think the maps are "open". Imo the majority of the maps are nothing but cover, which is why LRM's are so bad in MWO.
I'm guessing people who say there is no cover didn't play any previous MW titles.

Yes!! I still love playing a little MechWarrior 2/Mercs/GB legacy. MechVM is amazing!

Ya know there are reasons why (as much as i loved MW2 and MW4) that MW3 is the best....
First
You can kill birds
Second there are pedestrians you can gib or straight up step on.

nothing beats the MW 2 music though.

oh and LRM's seem to have always been in a rough spot in the MW games there hasnt been one that has a found a sweet spot for them which without serious restrictions is hard to get. MW4 was close but you would just have people taking mechs like the Long bow out with mass LRM5's

IN mwo they really need to do some adjustment to targeting, and radar ranges to get any kind of real fix to LRM's

11% could still be 100 maybe more mechs and Vise versa.

I did not like 4 as much as the rest, three was awesome and 2 was my favorite.

How to get lights more relevant

Use the new module system to implement modules for weight classes and specific chassis. Want thsi module? Great! Now put it on a light or specific light mech to use it

Boost bonuses that reward role tasks (IE spotting in a light mech gets a bigger reward than an assault mech)

Implement a dynamic economy that lowers the price of mechs based on their population on the battlefield. Less popular mech and/or variant = lower price. More popular mech and/or chassis = higher price

Provide a boost to earnings for unpopular mechs. Jenner earns 500 cbills for spotting. Locust earns 750 cbills.

Implement objectives on maps beyond cap points. Implement class specific objectives. Want someone to take a small light mech? Design maps that have corridors or small areas that only a small light can get into while the bigger guys stand guard outside.

Stuff like this is how you get players WANTING to take more light mechs.
The rule of 3 didn't, just as many of us said, improve mech variety much if any other than in group queue due to drop restrictions.

It's time to stop looking at restrictions and start looking at enticements, that will begin to shift interest in mechs

2 Mercs was the best. Had a lot of fun playing in the leagues and was my first introduction to online gaming really in a PvP setting. (Was also my first broadband connection :D)

What was bad about LRM's in the older titles? In MWO it's the huge abundance of cover that ruins them for me. It's hard to hit players who are using cover and i can generally avoid most, if not all LRM fire.

15% lights and 12% assaults...

Maybe assaults need a buff :D

Strange how the amount of lights drops when EU players go to bed...

They werent really bad they just werent great either.

and Living legends has so many features that i wish were in MWO and they did it with a group of only a handful of people and no real budget as a hobby.

If we could Smash some of the aspect from Living legends into MWO id be insanely happy.

I think many mods are better than professional games because the players making the mods do it because they love the game...like how PGI claim they love BT...then change it :(

MWLL isn't perfect, but imo it is miles ahead of MWO. But i'm hoping that one day PGI will make me want to change my sig, but i seriously doubt they will :D

well to be fair, most mods are only offering changes to coding. They aren't having to build anything from the ground up so most of, if not all of, the assets are already built for them.

I'm not saying it's not easier for mods but let's face it, fans make stuff because "I want it to be great". Companies make stuff because "I want money".

well of course. You can always tell the difference when someone is doing something they like and enjoy as opposed to JUST for a paycheck.

That's 4% waiting in the queue, not 4% actually playing.

That there's this few in queue means they're being sucked up instantly by the matchmaker. Which also means that there are hardly any lights playing.

Especially considering the amount of 0/1 light games I have seen today they must open up the queue pretty often...

Perhaps only the light 'mechs should be given stuff like strikes... Maybe that'd be an incentive to have more.
