snipe response

find what hard to believe? Show me otherwise
PGI has said a lot of things over the years
Which is irrelevant because your'e seriously sitting in a thread titled
"How would you feel if PGI releases another mech pack before CW"
What kind of responses are you expecting?
People are answering, on-topic to the thread title.

You're absolutely right, it will never be enough for some people
just the same as some people call for a nerf every time someting changes
Just like some people call for maps to be removed because they don't "like" them
Just like some people call for mechs to be removed because they don't "like" them

So I respond with, I don't see anyone doing what your'e talking about in this thread. I don't see anyone doing that. The ones that are doing that are nothing more than fringe people who do the same things I mentioned above.
Please show me where I've said "don't work on anything BUT cw"
anywhere
ever

The difference is that when someone yells on the forum for moronic nerfs, the rest of the board musters a few folks to tell the guy where to stick it and why he’s a tool.

When someone comes on to complain and puts up a tirade about how Alpine needs to be pulled from the map rotation, he’s smacked down too.

When someone comes on to snarf about how this-or-that ‘Mech is terrible and needs to be pulled, he’s promptly informed that he needs to Ell Two Pee and stop trying to rain on other peoples’ parades.

When someone comes on and launches the exact same sort of diatribe about Piranha devoting any resources to anything but CW at this point…all the people who would have responded to anything else with indifference, annoyance, or the typical Internet smug superiority, instead give the man a round of applause and a bunch of “Hear hear!”s. It has become cool to be that guy who hates everything but Commodity Warfare, just like it’s become cool to blame the matchmaker for each and every loss a player suffers and to complain on the boards about how LRMs are junky no-skill weapons that need to be pulled from the game.

Look what the matchmaker jackholes have done to the MM system. Look how much time Piranha has wasted trying to solve an unsolvable problem because self-entitled qricks can’t shut their traps for three consecutive seconds. No, not all Commodity Warfare folks are self-entitled qricks – but enough of them are that I am very, very nervous over what their collective caterwauling might drive Piranha to do.

if crowed funded potato salad man can deliver his stretch goals by dec this year, im going to be super upset this 50+ man organization can not deliver on CW.

Nikolai, roughly how much of the time developing a map is spent on design? Concept/layout etc. We have a series of Mechwarrior games that came before which are screaming for a redo and implemented into this game. Online maps that many Veteran players played until their mouse fingers were dulled and spent.

Curious if that's even an option if saving time for maximum effect is the name of the game. Find suitable maps from the past.

It takes a tattoo artists less time to emulate an existing image brought to them than it is for them to design something from scratch.

Since someone mentioned it, timeline has no real place in how this game has progressed. If anything it is an obstacle they have put on themselves for mech releases. It won't matter for CW because you can't really lock people out of their mechs as it advances for that map cycle or season. Whatever they'll call it.

The only way it would work would be to GIFT bonuses of C-Bills and Loyalty points to those people who lock themselves into playing mechs designated for EARLY-MID-LATE time frame. They decide which years fall into which category and if you play an early rated mech during the start, you get bonuses. Notice that only bonuses are given and not penalties. As much as it makes sense, any amount of tears coming from someone who just spent MC on a mech only to get slammed with a C-Bill penalty would be louder than repair and rearm foot stomping.

I'd like to see something bold with CW, but some would say that requires a lot of faith.

I'm also dreading when decals are put in the game. If someone can earn DCMS specific images, drop faction and go over to Marik being able to use them, I'll flip the table and take my toys home.

In a game where no mechs will seemingly be locked from you because of faction, the purpose of joining a faction beyond liking the colour seems lacking. There are lots of cool things that could be done, but they would arguably be free additions....hissss evil word evil word.

Thanks for the update and clarification, but let me ask this then, can you mix assets from multiple maps?

Example would be:

Crimson Straits mixed with Caustic Valley (Caustic Straits)
Forest Colony with Canyon Network (Forest Canyon)
Frozen City and Alpine Peaks (Alpine City)
Terra Therma with Tourmaline Desert (Therma Desert)
River City and Canyon Network (all those blasted bridges for Canyon City)

At least then the assets are proven and would reduce some of the workload.

Just a thought.

I think the playerbase would be completely capable of building new maps using existing assets.

If you look at Star Citizen's The Next Great Starship, multiple teams produced what the judges (including Chris Roberts himself) as "good enough right now for a triple A game", and that's not just the winners but pretty much the entire top half of the entrants.

Why not release the existing assets and see what the community can do with them?

As for new assets, I'm sure we have people (myself included) capable of modeling and texturing those as well.

as loathe as I am to say this, I agree. There had better be an EXCELLENT QA process for approving community generated maps though.

Modding communities have been doing this for decades though. I myself have done everything from designing new skins to completely new 3d models for games over the years.

Otherwise, I ask to all, any suggestions on more direct avenues to reach our goals?

In my opinion, some things need a bit more polish / refinement ...

- 'mech geometry and balance tweaks
... there are several older IS 'mechs that still need the visual upgrade to reflect loadouts properly (CDA, CN9, TBT, DRG, CTF, AWS, STK, AS7 come to mind).
... most of the above 'mechs (not all ... CTF, STK, and AS7 are probably fine) could also use a hit-box grooming (or other quirks) to keep them viable.

- map geometry fixes
... Tourmaline Desert and HPG Manifold are the biggest culprits, but Canyon Network and some of the other newer maps need some pretty serious work adjusting the terrain hit boxes to match the visual representation. It is supremely frustrating to watch your ammo or energy bounce off of invisible terrain.

- new player experience
... the movement tutorial is adequate, but probably needs a refresh
... at the bare minimum, there needs to be a tutorial explaining of how the various weapon systems work, the gauss charge mechanic, LRM minimum range, all missiles' maximum range, all other weapon systems reduced damage beyond maximum range, etc.

(I would really love to have a TRO-style game manual with all the weapon, equipment, and 'mech specifications, etc., but that's probably a little bit too much.)

There may be light guass rifles ...blackjack. someday there may be medium range missiles ....think kintaro.....treb. dont sell em.......dont sell em.

With that being said, if another mech pack hits, I will either ignore it or give it some thought. Not to mention that Every time a hero and the one occasion for phoenix, I just waited for the C-bill versions.

I thought I read somewhere that he actually deletes chassis when he's done with them. Got to be the anomaly though... Maybe that's why he feels he doesn't have enough.

(DaZur raises his hand)... I routinely 86 chassis I don't play...

I even 86'd a Hero mech once. Hell, I have a Founders Atlas I'd dump in a second... :D

Sometimes it just comes from a misunderstanding. No harm done but it's important to be on the same page.

hero mechs, new mechs, etc. aren't mech packs like Clan and PP though.

I'm good with paying for content, like cosmetics and primary variants with a 30% cbill/xp boost, premium time and the like. Also things like the Clan Pack where you're actually getting a lot of content for the money (it was a lot of mechs for the ducats).

Paying to avoid a punishment (like being completely locked out of access to content for extended periods) isn't cool.

Paying to have an applicable, immediate in game advantage (like the DS, Ilya, YLW, Clan Mechs for up to 6 months) is even less cool.

It's a game. Motivating with a carrot is better than a stick, all the way around.

I'm all for mech packs. It should be motivated by the inherent value, not so much the 'or else' part of it.
