well if we are going down the in mech mp3 player how about streaming options on it I dj for an internet radio station and would love it if the mp3 could be tuned into the stream
that way you could alter the volume om game rather than alt tabing

Here are some important essentials:

1) A TACHOMETER. for the love of kerensky I can't do nought to sixty without one of these.
2) A Sports setting for when I want to run my jenner round the map. A Rally mode would be good too.
3) Flappy paddle gearbox. A throttle is just too unrefined.

We don't need satnav, those bloody things don't work.

Upon first reading, I thought a rear view camera such as in vehicles, and a clock in military time tied to our system clock (so we're not late for work while gamin'). Also love the idea of an MP3 player of some sort so we can load our own music to rock to.

-Polyethylene(Nalgene) Water-bottle, or w/e the latest water bottle tech is in 3049.
-Pin-Up Girls, maybe let us use our own images.
-Small Water-Spritzing Fans, for us laser using Mechwarriors who like to sit on the overheating line.
-Sticky Notes, messages from our lance mates, the devs, notes to yourself.
-Weapons in case your mech breaks down behind enemy lines.
-Bobble-heads are a MUST!!!
-Deck of playing cards for those missions that require a lot of waiting. (Magazines would work too)
-MP3 Player that lets us use our own playlists.

So many great ideas in this thread already but I'd love a placeholder for a pinup picture where you could put real life photos in. That'd be awesome! Also a radio/mp3 player that you could use your own mp3s in that actually displays what song it is!

Also, the radio if included needs to be able to play streams from the Net, so we can have Hyperpulse Radio in-game. With news and everything.

more *****, switches, wires, etc. also i think the panels should be closer to the pilot body, giving a tight feel like in tanks and fighter planes. they need all the space they cna get, and thus the pilot is very tightly packed in.
