I think it safe to say MOST of us are waiting, and speculating as to when we start seeing more Inner Sphere mech designs, and what ones those will be. We have various levels of confirmation that we will be seeing the Vindicator, Mauler and King Crab, eventually.

We hopefully will see another Heavy, before any of them, IMO. But as a Medium Jock, (and thus admittedly biased) I want to see the Assassin. Badly.

Why?

Medium Mechs are supposed to be y far the most common. Admittedly, even with far better game balancing, I doubt we will see that reflected by actual in game numbers anytime soon, as in general, Mediums greatest strength, versatility, is also their greatest weakness, especially in a minmax game like MWO. And most people feel anything at the low end of a weight class are a total waste.

As a class, Mediums are entirely too top heavy. We need more 40-45 tonners, IS and Clan.
There are 3 timeline variants (ASN-21, 23, 101). 101 was in extremely limited numbers (as Strum will likely excoriate me over) but limited availability has not really stopped PGI yet (HGN was not exactly common, in any form, and outside of Comstar and the Clans the 732 was extinct)

Fast. Very fast. Should have a 340 engine cap, same as the Cicada (by the 1.3 multiplier, it would be 360-365, but by the 8.5x limiter, a 340). 151 kph with speed tweak.

VERY Jump capable. Second only to the Spider. In fact, following the typical JJ inflation, I expect some 9-10 JJ capable versions. With .5 ton JJs.

In theory, it should have a VERY small, compact frame, not terribly larger than a Spider, or Firestarter, at worst. (Of course, we know PGI will screw this part up, and it will be at least as big as a Centurion)

Typical hardpoint inflation should make some nice possible weapons variants.
-ASN-21: 4 Missile hardpoints (2x each torso) and 2-3 energy in the RA.
-ASN-23: Reduced missiles (2-3 in RT?) same 2-3 energy, but great candidate for ECM and enhanced JJs. (Cicadas, Atlases and Commandoes never had ECM in the versions PGI chose, either). Also all weapons on one side for those that like to "shield".
-ASN-101: 2x Missile hardpoints (1 each ST), 2x Energy in the RA, 1x Energy in the RT, LT and H. Reduced JJs, but as a "special" limited test version of the Assassin, even more likely a candidate for ECM due to the NAIS (introduced in 3024, in the early days of lostech recovery, and a House Davion redesign), and very likely the torso lasers would be relatively high mounted, making a good candidate for light jump sniping.

So, in a nutshell, blazing fast, great jumper, small size and profile should make it relatively tough to target, with 3 variants that should (conceivably) actually feed into VERY different roles and playstyles.

*Edit: New Concept Art

Anyhow, not saying it is THE must have mech to be released, just making a case for why it would be a good addition.

Flame away!

Updated basic concept, narrowed the side torsos to bring it's silhouette and hitboxes more in line with the original line art. Also highlighted "ideal" hitboxes.

Just a few examples of what an ASN could do in MWO.

*Edit...and I just found out AUSwarrior24 is doing a pretty neat job trying to 3d render it.

I would love to have the Assassin in the game.

I have nothing against Vindicators, but I couldn´t use them myself. The stench of Liao is something you can´t get rid off, regardless of what industrial grade cleaning agents you use, you know.

The only trouble would be what to do with the ASN-23. It should not go the way of some Jenners, that are simply *there*, but don´t offer anything else than what the other variants do. I don´t think ECM is the way to go.

EDIT: Where did you take that picture from?

I'm biased to the Clint, but a fast energy+missile based 40 tonner to complement the Cicada would be OK with me.

The only negative though is if it had ECM, it would more or less make the Cicada obsolete... especially with some of the ballistic slots the Cicada has (MGs are still the optimal weapons on them, which minimizes its usefulness).

It'd be a good choice for the shallow end of the Medium pool. Like the Cicada, it's kind of a 'Super Light', so it would have a better chance of survival than the slower mediums like the BlackJack and WindIndicator.

But this is CGI - I think 'as big as a Centurion' is the best case scenario. It'll be taller than a Shadow Hawk. ;)

Let me make this clear... PGI will NOT be making any new IS mechs until AFTER all Clan mechs are out for C-Bills AND CW is fully released.

The assassin would be great to have. It would be a great nimble medium for the transition between medium and light. I wouldn't mind the clint either, solid fast support chassis. I know quite a few, including myself, are waiting for the Bushwacker but the timeline isn't right for it. The Wolf Trap would be cool, but once again timeline isn't right for it. If I had to choose the medium I would most like to see it would have to be the Starslayer, sadly there isn't enough variants with the technology currently in the game...

I don't believe that to be true. PGI said they will continue to release IS mechs alongside Clan mechs.

Really? SO, what is your inside source? Because, if you don't have one, you really can't make anything clear. And if you do, you should cite it.

I like it too, though TBH; I want to get away from 5-55 tonners for a bit. I want some more mobile options, and with the PHX off the table (and PGI screwing up the chance to recreate it by nerfing the max engine on the Arrow all to heck), that leaves the Assassin, Vulcan (another design I would LOVE to see, in large part for it's very unique silhouette) and Sentinel and Clint.

+1 Bring it on, the more the merrier says I!

PGI shouldn't stop until every mech from this era is properly represented in game. Unseen and Royals notwithstanding....

never sure why people started using the upper radar dome as the cockpit, but probably for the same reason some artists removed the righthand form the Hatchetman, too many people are not good at actually discerning details in pictures.

My only concern at this time would be the projected hitboxes. It looks rather easy to shoot at, especially if they scaled it improperly.

always a concern, though scaled properly, it should have pretty similar boxes to a spider. Scaled improperly, ..well.....ouch.
