It won't. It will however be trolling everywhere, because if I believe what is coming up soon™, and the hero bonus... you will see it EVERYWHERE.

This would be PGI's "solution" to the current state of the Light queue.

Am I reading you correctly by saying you wouldn't want a free Spider hero mech with a permanent 30% c-bill bonus? ~_^

We were discussing the long term usefulness of the variant...

I wouldn't reject the gift... if it was the case. There's a technical benefit to PGI if everyone got a free hero mech that is a Light... and the Light queue always struggles.

If it isn't a gift, well, I have zero problems trolling it with the other Lights I have.

I really don't know what to do with this mech. Looks like you can do a lot of fun stuff with it, but no builds that would actually be powerful on the battlefield. If it had 2 missile hardpoints, you could at least do 2xSRM4, 2 Mlas and 2MGs, to be a nasty clean-up mech, picking on damaged targets.

But I don't know what to do with this. It's like a slightly better version of the Raven 4X. Which is funny, because the Raven 4X was pretty bad to begin with, and now it's just straight up outclassed by a smaller mech. Arms with lower actuators for both energy and ballistic weapons. More jump jets, more speed. Much harder to leg and destroy than a Raven.

It's not P2W, because it's a bad mech. But it's still a straight upgrade of the Raven 4X, as far as I can tell.

I'm talking about the Niko and Russ's patch note hint. Think Thunderbolt-9S for two seconds.

Which hint are you referring to? I didn't see it.

I thought Russ said stuff... it's just Niko on the quick patch list.

Well I love it. I would buy it instantly. I think it looks great stock also 2ams.

I like that it is different but I was hoping for this kind of mixed hardpoint loadout on a faster locust but it will do

Well, the CT holds the missile hardpoint, so it's actually rather limited (the Raven-4X does not suffer from that). Otherwise, the Spider hero is "technically superior", unless you consider the armor distribution to be an issue (it is sensitive for Light as it were).

If you compare it to what we have for Spiders... well the 5V is still useless (lol @ not fixing/addressing its woes).. it is the only Spider variant to have 2 energy arm hardpoints. This is kinda important if you consider how limited weapon-wise the 5D is. You simply don't have a good CT weapon/zombie option as a tradeoff... unless you can do something with 1 ton or so of SRM ammo...

Limited how? It's still torso mounted. The only thing the Raven 4X can do is SRM6+Artemis or LRM20, neither of which are a huge issue for a light mech, in my opinion.

Yeah, pretty disappointing that they still haven't even tried to do anything about the 5V. But this mech is still fairly limited in terms of weapons, I think. The only sensible weapons to put in the arms, I think, are medium lasers and MGs. If you're going with large lasers, you may as well go with the 5D. The disadvantage of its energy hardpoints are rather insignificant compared to the advantage of ECM, I think.

Things you can do with the 4X that you can't do with this Spider:
-Dual AC/2s (edit: well)
-Useful AC/10 builds
-Useful Gauss builds
-AC/20 <3
-aLRM10+

This is a superior option if you want to run a balanced jumping lasers+rockets+MGs, but it is not a direct replacement, nor does the hardpoint layout change anything because the weapons you might run are not bulky enough to matter (arguably having similar hardpoints paired in each arm is better for peeking).

Well, I'm talking about bigger LRM racks specifically (Artemis or otherwise). You're right on that note though.

The ERPPC Spider knows no bounds. I still think the 5D is still the optimal mech because of ECM, but I think this variant is really geared for two specific roles... close range (NARC, med lasers, MGs) and trolling (PPC, ERL/LL).

The 5V is still a sad mech (they could've given it another freaking weapon module slot, and it would still suck, but be semi-useful with both AMS modules and a med laser module.... shoot me for mentioning the med laser module as "useful" here)

You can run dual-AC2s, but it would just resemble some Urbie bong hit. You can't do the AC20 (actuators)... you can do AC10, but you'd just have to go crazy slow though.. remember people talking about crazy ballistic builds on the Spider....

None of those things are any good against experienced opponents, IMO. If you want to run big ballistics, you're better off with a medium mech. Even the Cicada is a bit too small to run big ballistics (Although I do run a CDA-3M with gauss personally, it's very hit and miss)

LRMs on Inner Sphere light mechs is almost always a waste. But you can do 2xAC2 better on the new Spider Hero than on the Raven 4X.

It's not Huginn or Oxide level if you ask me. (I don't even want to know what a Lolcust hero would look like).

Although, it would be really crazy if the CT had 2 missile hardpoints... then we'd have a true troll.

Maxing out the speed in the Spider is generally not productive. Gotta put some pewpew in it. Going 170 is for Commandos anyways (they rock @ that speed far more than the Spider IMO).
