You, sir, are a trooper.

I did it with a Hunchback myself. I remember reading someone complaining about how anything but a heavy or assault would have difficulty completing it. This confused me because I had no problem with a medium. You might have to refit to be punchy instead of DPS oriented, but it was perfectly possible in any 'mech.

Bought the Kintaro KTO-18(C) at the beginning of the challenge, and managed to get the majority of kills in it, as well as completing all the basic skills. Great Challenge, PGI!!!!!!!

Whoever set up this event, time would have been better spent cleaning keyboards or something, for all the players who were able to do it.

 I take it everyone used leveled 'Mechs …

I was part of the way there with my phoenix battlemaster (I think up to speed tweak). I did finish out the elites and racked up some EXP (as well as mucho c-bills) toward mastery, but not quite there yet.

Good times with some epic battles! A number of them went right down to the wire.

You know... events like "kill xx to get <reward>" mainly serves in inflating ego and raising KDR. I sincerely hope this kind of events won't happen again in the future.

I'm hoping each challenge will have a different objective. Personally I would like to see:
- Complete 5 (maybe 10) matches in which you have 5+ assists
- Win 1 Assault match by base capture or Win 1 Conquest by Point Capture
- Destroy 25 components over the course of the challenge

These are the kind of events i would like to see. Forcing how to work as a team to achieve victory and/or assisting teammates, "pretending" to be a salvager in the battlefields and so on. While it's all good that i didn't see players shouting "kill-stealer" at each other, MWO is a team-oriented game, so please make it's events also team-oriented.

And...yeah, i used my HBK-4P and SHD-2H(P), both are mastered i think...just because i don't like the shape of IS mechs except the ones i owned. And it's been a long time since the last i used them.

I did it with a Griffin-3M in about 3 hours on saturday morning.

So, nah you didn't need an assault. But some luck helps.

Did they send out an email? I didn't have time to play enough to get 20 kills anyway. (Prob would've taken me 40+ matches.) Lately, my KDR has crashed, mostly due to OP clan mechs. I do a lot of damage before I die, most of the time, but just not getting lots of kills. The only mech I've been able to field somewhat successfully is my Firebrand (2UAC5 6ML), which wouldn't have counted. Oh, well. I still have empty mechbays anyway cuz nothing is available that is worth buying until the Timberwolves and Direwolves come out.

(Small Medium Laser?)

STD300, 2xLRM10 + 2xLL + 4xML + 2xSSRM2 Stalker 5S for the win buddy. The thing took its kills at any range

The last round wasn't as spectacular (I got the last kill in the spam attack on the last surviving Timberwolf), but I had one where I ripped apart 2 DWFs (though I didn't get the kills if I remember correctly), brought the fight to a number of large 'Mechs and might have actually survived. It was glorious.

Not as glorious was bringing a stock 3H after I had nothing to lose any more. Not that it was underperforming (it was), or ran way too hot (it did), but it was genuine "dead man walking and actually getting somewhere" stupid fun.

The Atlas was designed by the SLDF and used through out the IS. One Steiner based industry had Atlas production capability pre-Clan invasion compared to Kurita's two and Davion's one. It is a fair call to leave the Atlas off the list as well because ideally the Atlas were assigned to general's or other officers of import who rated such an expensive mech. The list reflects more of what an average Steiner soldier or mech owner might have available, despite the lack of the Zeus.

In that case, the Stalker really is an all Sphere 'Mech. The design is so old and so popular that is has spread far into nearly every corner of the Inner Sphere and even the Periphery that, qouting Sarna here,

Quote

[...] some pilots lost their fear of it (at least until they had to face one in combat).

The 'Mechs even got so old that the outdated skeleton had to be burdnened with ten to up to fifteen tons less to reduce the strain on the structure and keep them operational.

Really, if anything, the Stalker was anyone's game.

Just liking this because the reaction made me laugh. I do feel your pain, though - I missed out on the free Thunderbolt for similar reasons.

Possibly Definitely excessively paranoid, but that's why I checked the damn list every time I selected a different 'Mech to play.

Darn, I thought the challenge ended Tuesday. I had to work all weekend and planned to grind through this on my day off (today).

Ah well, it was just a mech bay so nothing to cry over missing it. I'm just glad to see another challenge.

I hear ya bro. Same happened to me. I just hope it won't be a kill challenge next time.

Thunderbolts and Jenners were the trick of the day! Easy to get at least 1-3 kills per a match.

*Please* share your Thunderbolt configuration because I don't want to grind 8 hours for 20 kills ever again

If you want to talk lore then the Lyran Alliance (House Steiner) has the strongest economy of any of the successor states and through their use of promoting nobility they were able to afford more expensive equipment and 'Mechs, thereby fielding more Atlas Assault'Mechs than any other successor state. I don't think Kurita made as many Atlas 'Mechs as they did the Akuma, a lower-cost alternative.
Yes pretty much everyone fielded an Atlas, and other successor states produced them, but Steiner tends to possess more of them than anyone else.

Posted in one of the other Announcement threads. The whole Atlas-Steiner relationship has been overblown by /tg/ and the CBT forums, as well as that story about Duke Kelswa-Steiner and his blood-crazed last stand in an Atlas against invading Clanners. The Griffin is probably the "most Steiner" 'Mech in MW:O.
