How often does the counter refresh? I've been stuck at 80% for hours, has not counted my last 6-7 kills?

Every 15 minutes.

It only updates if you are fielding 1 of the 55 mechs on that list.

A few notes now that I'm finally though this challenge.

1: Man, that was rough. There was an hour there where I didn't get any kills and it was getting really frustrating. I was starting to question the validity of the match maker, but of course MM wasn't designed to match you with opponents of equal skill, it was designed to stick you with better teammates who could drag your ass across the finish line. I'm not the best player, and I'm rusty on top of that. Furthermore, it wasn't like I was getting my pick of my favorite mechs (see #3)... All in all, that meant I was going to get stuck in matches with better opponents, better teammates, and expected to just rack up the kills. If it was going to happen, it was going to be a slog, and a slog it was.

2: Either you can say that you're pushing for more Role Warfare, or you can have weekend events that only reward kill shots. You can't have both.

3: These mechs are all Steiner has to offer? There wasn't a mech on that list that I own or am comfortable with getting 20 kills in. I own an Orion, but not the K. I own a Jager, but not the S. I own a COM-2D, but I wasn't about to try to get 20 kill shots with that thing (See #2). So I ended up dragging out a Jerry-rigged Battlemaster for most of the event to try to eek out a few kills, and the whole experience sucked. I think this whole challenge has made me question my allegiance to the Archon.

Just bagged the free mechbay using primarily the phoenix battlemaster this weekend.

Looking forward to more of these challenges!

Nah, my Kintaro 18 is 2k off being fully mastered out ...

But seriously, aside from my Locusts which are still in final stages of Elite, all the other options I owned have been long mastered. Not much way around that for some, heck even restricting another similar challenge to Trial 'Mechs only would still hit some people who'd mastered out the chassis even if they don't get the pick the the config.

I'm a free-to-player... you know how it goes with the bills. So I'm really glad when they have these challenges!

It took me over eight hours to get 20 kills in the TDR-9S I got from the
" Win an Unreleased Phoenix Mech Challenge
Ended: April 22nd."

In case you're wondering, my KDR's only 0.4
Though it ***was*** a G~ r ~ i ~ n ~d I was glad for the free mechbay!!

And even though I got killed....oh I guess 30+ times, somehow I managed to acquire 4 million C-bills along the way cause I only had about 300k when I started!
Now I can buy another mech finally B)

TDR-9SE I guess? I've always wanted to try using jump-jets

Challenge is still running. Have a look at the list of Steiner-approved mechs; the kills count for certain mechs only.

Didn't even participate in the challange. Nothing will get me out of my timber. 0/20 kills over the weekend B)

Those challanges are nice, but would you please consider using something else than kills as goal? Playing this weekend was NOT fun, because guys went so aggressively for kills (atleast in the solo queue) that it really hurt the overall playability.

Guys restlessly teamattacked in order to get kills. I have seen guys purposely rushing into the line of fire of others to bodyblock their shots and get last shot into almost dead enemy mechs. I was rear critted once because guys tried to squeeze in shots into an almost dead guy and i couldn't get my mech out of the way fast enough. If you need to dodge the shots of your team more than those of the enemy team there is an issue.

I've already posted that I really wasn't happy with this challenge, but I think some good can come out of this.

This event taught us some lessons when it destroyed team cohesion; I watched team members leg one another, kill one another, even purposefully block each others shots so they could get the kill. I accidentally got a kill in my Jenner (I wasn't trying because I knew I wasn't going to get 20 kills in 1 weekend) and I got PPCed in the rear armor by a teammate and then yelled at for my "transgression". I wanted to introduce some friends to MWO, but it looks like I'll wait until next weekend because they didn't want to deal with the childish CoD/CS/etc behavior.

I know that some people really liked it because they got to try out cheese builds and they were kicking ass in their uber-cool assault 'mechs (even though they had to wait 5-10 min for a match), but that's not why I play this game. PGI has something unique and interesting with this Battle'Mech simulation, but events like this make it feel like every FPS out there. I hope they look at some of the alternative suggestions on this thread.

I really liked the suggestions to focus on teamwork. I myself and others suggested focusing on team-building stats like spot assists and what not, or even go back to X amount of wins. Others suggested compromises like having to win for the kills to count (helping to mitigate the damage to team cohesion). One of my favorites suggestions is a tiered or scaled award system where over Y amount of damage gets you something and X amount of kills gets you the highest awards.

I would say that maybe you could integrate all of these into one event? Maybe have an award for light 'mechs who get Z amount of spotting assists, something like a bay and a popular light 'mech. Then have Y amount of damage, or X amount of hits for LRM boats to teach LRM players how to look for proper locks and to hold off on firing until they know it's good and they get a bay and a champion LRM boat or something. Then maybe you have X amount of kills count so long as you win for everyone else?
It's just a thought for you guys, but it seems like the community can take these events to a whole new interesting level that outshines anything we've seen before.

As a devoted Steiner pilot, I abstained the entire weekend since I refuse to recognize anything calling itself a Steiner event yet excludes every Atlas in the game.

That jive about "not wanting everyone running around in an Atlas" could easily be resolved by PGI utilizing the 3/3/3/3 thing they themselves conjured up.

Ponderous man, simply ponderous....

But GRRRATZZZ to all who did! B)

I used a freshly purchased AWS-8V, the only AWS variant I didn't own, and was waiting for an incentive to do so. I more or less stuck to its original loadout idea too. Had a lot of fun B)

Missed out on the free mechbay as I was out all weekend and if I want some bays ill just get MC anyway, but keep up these type of freebie challenges PGI they are great for the poor/free to play peeps.

Why not assists or say spot targets for the next free challenge? Something to make people try to put in more team effort. AKA more active light mechs.

It felt like a long slog to get to those 20 kills in the solo queue, having an event based on kills seems to promote a particular type of match play.

I think at one point I saw light mechs in the queue go down to 0%, but for most of the time I was playing over the weekend it was hovering around 7%, and a lot more people me included at times going full rambo for that kill.

I played most of my games in either a dual gauss jager, something I'd never normally use or my more recent mechs of choice the SRM boat griffins.

I liked that you had to pick mechs on sale in order to get the achievement and that there were some eligible trial mechs so everyone could participate.

I would rather see something that was based around wins (like previous challenges) rather than kills, so people have more of an incentive to play lighter mechs and to work more as a team rather than seeing your team mates as the competition for those kills.

How about a "win 3 games of each game mode while piloting one of these mechs on sale" challenge.

The sale itself was great, I picked up a wolverine and love it already and awesome 9M which I love a little less so far but at least I have that XL320 engine to go in the wolverine B)

Really enjoyed the event, you notice that when people want kills quick they just run in and brawl! Had about 8 or 9 games in a row where people all in IS mechs just ran in and smashed each other up was great ! Hardly any LRM spam and no 5 minute stand off's as everyone just wanted lots of kills.
Made a nice change, took about an hour to grind out those kills in the CTF 3D. Hoping for more events like this.

Nice challange, I did it both with my regular account using JR7-D(S) and AWS-8R LRM-boat and the alt. account running non-elited HBKs. 20 kills is achievable for pretty much everyone and the change in playstyle wasn't that terrible as described above. Strange moves to secure kills can bee seen even when there is no challange going on.
I like that PGI is mixing it up and not just sticks to the "Play XX-matches to get YYY for free." Next time it might be assists, play xx matches in a light etc. I hope there also will be other free stuff like colours, c-bills etc.

As stated before... If you are running LRM boats you are probably going to have some difficulty getting kills. Direct fire mechs are your best bet. Also, you can probably troll people using LBXs and MGs. Swoop in when a mech is about cored and hammer away with crit seeking weapons.

The hardest part for me is deciding what mech is going to occupy the empty mech bay now. B)

How wrong you are my friend, got my 20 kills in 15 games with a pure lrm stalker, 20x2 5x2 and a tag, easy kills.
