Challenges are not really meant to be challenging, it is just to get people to play the game.
A really hard one that gave you a faction specific hero would be nice.

Challenges are meant to be whatever their creator decides. There's no law saying that a challenge should be easy for every player in the world. I think an actual challenge with a significant reward would get people to play the game.

I don't know if PGI will ever give people free mechs again, but I'd be equally happy with a faction specific decal, if they ever get decals working in this game. Or a faction specific camo pattern for one specific mech. Like, if you win the Steiner challenge, your Atlas mechs all get the special Steiner camo.

If the challenge reward is something like a decal or camo pattern, then you would actually be able to see what people have beaten the challenge. Like a badge of honour. And if you repeated the Steiner challenge 3-4 times every year, it would give every Steiner pilot the opportunity to try again if they failed or missed the chance to participate.

The "20 kills" to "get mechbay" is not too imaginative.

It would have been extra better with a Stock Mode actually available with all those different variants.

I don't disagree with what you are saying about getting a harder/ more rewarding challenge. But I would imagine that if you looked back at the challenges, my characterization of the challenges is accurate.

Challenges should require you to work to achieve them, but not be nigh-on impossible or unreasonable. The "challenge" suggestions that you gave are dumb and would actually push players away from the game - if they are too difficult or tedious, people just won't play. The point of the challenges is to get more people playing, not reward people who roll around headshot sniping in their twin gauss Jagermech.

So I guess we should stop challenging PGI to finish Clan Warfare huh? ;)

I think the kill 20 is a good goal. Most people can get it if they play twenty or so games. They can choose their mech rather freely and still be able to do it.

You don't want elitist goals in f2p games for the most part. You want to include the most people instead.

They could however do a tiered challenge, fex. 20 kills for the mechbay and 200 kills for a Steiner item. That way most can do the easy one and the mad grinders can grind for the "exclusive".

If that was the case the challenge would last a week because during the summer most people go out of town for the weekends.

I found it to be nearly impossible. I spent most of my rounds with zero kills. I only have a few mechs on the list and there all ****. I just love running **** against clan metabuilds. (/heavy sarcasm) The clan has made it nearly impossible to run IS. Clan has more DPS at greater range.

This weekend's event was great. Good to see so many IS Mechs out for a change. I found the challenge quite easy, although i could appreciate it being difficult for others. I ran a combination of mechs 1 being a Quad Ac2 Jm6-s and a Tri Ac5 and Dual Ppc Banshee.

Though once finished i came back with my clan mechs. Seeing so many IS mechs out was like being a kid in a candy store!!! ;)

Getting x amount of kills, component destructions, savior kills, damage, match score or base caps in a single match is much more dependent on skill. There's no easy way to fake 1000 dmg, 100 point match score or 6 kills in the public queue (private matches are different). This makes it fun, because you know you have to play well to do it. It's not just a matter of time.

While I agree with you that it would more of a challenge, what you describe above is still going to devolve into a grind. Players will just have to grind game after game until they get that perfect storm game where they achieve a great score. And yes, you could set the bar so high that only the top 1% can reach it (1000 damage game for example), but then what's the point?

It's like PGI's past tournaments. Most of the guys had to grind games all weekend to get those 10 superstar matches. It becomes a game of putting enough monkeys at the typewriters so that you will eventually churn out Shakespeare. Yes, you still had to be good to beat out the competition, but it was a grind nonetheless.

So while in theory I don't disagree, you would need to constrict the time to an hour or two to prevent it from becoming too grindy.

Another issue is that things like damage and kills favor the bigger mechs over the smaller. I play the Hunchback an awful lot, and yet my average atlas damage stats are still better. You would need to subdivide it by chassis.

Hail,

I just do not have the lifestyle that allows me to play all weekend, so this Challenge was fine for me. Took a CTF-3D with AC20x4ML and was finished in 8 drops.

No clue when I will use it, since I have a few empty at the moment. But it was worth 300MC !

I actually found the PUG queue fun, but did notice the servers seemed unstable at times.

Seyla,

I found it odd that it was a steiner challenge and yet no Atlas's where used in this challenge.

How long have you been playing?

That would work. You could also limit it to x amount of matches. Like, you click the 'challenge accepted' button and you get 10 matches to accomplish the goal. Same thing, basically.

Well, some people like a challenge and other people don't. Some people want public rankings, and other people are afraid of that. If some people are so fragile that failing a single weekly challenge is enough to push them away from the game... well. Good riddance B)

Yes, that is correct. And I haven't really been happy with a single challenge or competition so far, except the most recent team tournament.

You're not alone. I had a total of 3 mechs on the list, and one of them was a jenner. After around 20 hours of gameplay (since I had other things going on this weekend) I managed a massive total of 3 kills. Piles of assists and components destroyed, but only 3 kills.

Honestly, the difficulty was less the 20 kills aspect, and more the list of mechs we had to do it with. While I like the idea behind the event (at least the one put forth,) it did get very frustrating, very quickly.

The question I want answered is who thought it was a good idea to make the criteria for the event something which is highly random: who gets the last hit?

Very enjoyable.

Used Awesome 9m energy boat, 2erppc and 4ml(enjoyed this alot ty for the new quirks).
All 3 battlemasters from phoenix package with the 1s being mvp with 10 kills from 3 games, 4xlrm10 tag and 2ml.

We need more weekends like this, hell they dont even need to give us bays/mechs i'd be happy with premium time since it promotes people to play consistently and everyone needs some cash/leveling.
actually on secound thought bays and premium time would be my 2 top picks for rewards.

Wow cool thought you know how lots of games have double xp weekends, this format would be awesome for double xp weekends, faction specific double xp weekend you dig??????
Kurita mech's only double xp weekend etc. That would be fun as hell and rewarding enough in itself.

Do you think there code is easy enough to handle something like a premium time faction specific weekend?
That would also be quite epic.
