I see no issue with the Direwolf.
In fact, if anything Clantech is quite balanced and in need of a minor buff.

What we have to consider here is that an Atlas died within a short span of time to a beamspam Mech. A Mech that was dealing DoT as opposed to the Atlases FLD.
The Atlas did not attempt to torso twist or barge past the Direwolf-both well known tactics that are used against other assaults. He stood there and exchanged alphas with the biggest gunboat in-game atmo.
The Direwolf is a gunboat Mech. It lacks the agility of even an Atlas and has large torso hitboxes but it can put an unmatched amount of hurt downrange. The best way to deal with a Direwolf is to out manoeuvre it and twist to take any damage on the extremities of your Mech whilst you outflank it and destroy it.

The OP's story shows what can happen if you panic.

Now if said atlas did first see a Dire Wolf at 270 meters. Atlas fires all its weapons 10 damage for medium lasers (pin point), 20 damage for ac20 pinpoint, 36 damage from srm but spread out over entire dire wolf and some missiles probably missing. Dire Wolf fires, ( I will use just one of my builds 6 merl for 42 damage pin point, 5 uac5 for 50 damage pin point) 92 damage pin point vs 30 pin point and 36 spread. And the Dire Wolf wins on heat used and recycle time but has a chance a uac5 will jam. Both mechs can torso twist but because of the delay for recycle on the ac20 is different than the srm 6 and the ml for the atlas it actually has to stay exposed longer in the torso firing arc to put more damage downrange.

False. AC20, SRM6, and MLs, all have the *exact* same recycle time of 4 seconds between initiation of the shot.

The AC20 and SRMs are FLD, so it takes only a split second to release the shot and go back to shielding.

You mention that shielding can bypassed by finding those tiny openings, and while this is true, I would remind you that NBA players miss free throws from time to time, and those are uncontested shots.

It's not enough to just passively shield and hold that pose statically, because someone with good aim and all the time in the world will find those tiny openings where they can still hit a desired hitbox. You gotta move, so that those tiny slivers of openings are bouncing around all over the place. Human reflexes are not instantaneous, the shooter cannot always adjust his shot within the last split second because you moved.

It's like the eye of the Atlas. If you just stand there and don't move, someone will have a *much* better chance of hitting it. On the other hand, if you're moving, turning, twisting, with the Atlas's bobbing gait, it'll be a much more difficult shot to make.
