Hey man, there's some +5% Armor buffs coming up for the 1R and 1X! This will result in a net bonus of nearly 15 whole armor points (distributed across the entire mech)! That's nearly a half ton of free armor! Clearly this, coupled with the paralyzing fear that will grip enemy pilots upon laying their eyes on such an enormous war machine, will grant the Vindicator (1R / 1X) the survivability it so rightfully deserves! Imagine - such a quirk will allow the Vindicator to laugh in the face of glancing laser blasts! It will absorb a single pellet of LBX buckshot with ease! Even the might of a single SRM will do little to penetrate the extra armor afforded by this quirk!
(Let's all pause for a moment here and remember that a stock Vindicator carries more armor than a stock Centurion A/D, and carries only 1.5 tons less armor than a stock Victor 9S).
This reminds me of why I usually like to mention my armor concept.
Basically max armor = 3 tons more than stock armor for all mechs.
Stock armor is 272? Welp, standard armor it's +96 for your new max = 368.
What was that, you switched to ferro? Welp 272 was (divide by 32) 8.5 tons, and if we do an exact double of TT's Ferro armor value of 18 to 36 (instead of MWO's "35.84" for IS and "38.4" for Clan...seriously wtf is that?), we have 306 + 108 (3 tons at 36 points per ton) = 414 if you were using ferro.
That's a Centurion A OR a Blackjack.
What's that? Your Vindicator has 288 armor? Welp 288 + 96 = 384.
You wanted Ferro? 288 / 32 = 9 tons of armor. 9 tons at 36 per ton is 324 + 108 = 432 points ferro.
Wait, you want to run a Locust? You're in luck, 128 armor + 96 = 224 with standard armor. Oh and guess what, the Jenner D also sports 224 armor! Of course that goes up to 252 armor with ferro.
What's that? Raven 3-L has 161 (corrects to 162 with ferro at 36 per ton) but already has ferro so it only goes to 270. Yet the Raven 2X is 208 so it goes to 304 or with Ferro reaches 342 (the most armored Firestarter, the FS9-A and the Huginn would have identical armor to the 2X btw)... but the lore-written Liao built Raven 4X designed specifically for brawling larger mechs starts with 224 and thus goes to 320, or with ferro 360!
Well now... Suddenly you have reasons to run lighter mechs, and those mechs with god awful hardpoints or engine limits would be worth something.
Fun fact:
Cataphract 3D = 352 armor. Turns into 448 max standard or 504 max ferro.
Cataphract 2X = 416 armor. Turns into 512 max standard or 576 max ferro.
Muromets = 432 armor. Turns into 528 max standard or 594 max ferro.
Cataphract 4X = 434 armor. But wait there's left over weight. Sarna says it's supposed to be 14 tons of armor. MWO gives it 13.5625 tons. Fixing that.... Stock is 448 at 14 tons. + 3 tons = new max armor. Turns into 544 max standard or 612 max ferro.
Now... Is the 2X so bad? What about the 4X? Is the 3D really so great?
The power of armor...
The reason I used a universal + 3 tons is the pinpoint damage, otherwise I'd use +1 ton. The stock armor ratio between an Atlas and a Locust is 480 points. If both mechs add 3 tons of armor, it's still 480 points. A percentage however would boast high armor mechs and screw low armor ones. Jagermechs, known for poor armor, reach almost their current max.
Most mechs surpass their current max.
But again, the only reason it's so high is the pinpoint damage in this game.
Fun fact: This concept mechs the Urban mech viable and allows size and scale differences to make good sense (more armored things are bulkier to allow the same stuff to flow through their internals.)
"Wait, why does Ferro give you more?" Instead of limiting by points, the concept limits by armor tonnage.
If you have 6 tons of armor, you have 192 points standard armor or 216 points ferro. It's still 6 tons either way. Both are about the same bulk, just one is lighter.
Also it's compatible with Heavy Armor or whatever Sarna called it.
Each point weighs twice as much and gives double the protection (to fit within the point system).
Simplified: You get twice as many points for twice as much weight, so in this case you're allowed twice as much weight in points for huge movement penalties (akin to the armor's penalties).
Glee.
