If however you were an IS commander, well unfortunately your force was made up of a hodge poge of whatever mechs were available and unlike MWO, IS mechs WERE NOT customizable outside of a factory or full size depot. You basically had what you had so if your mechs were laser and PPC heavy and had the unfortunate orders of attacking Terra Therma well you were stuck.

THIS IS LORE.

And that's why I never disconnect whatever map is loading.
But still a srm/ac20 mech in alpine or laser/ppc mech in terra therma are not fun...

Yeah I would love to see this. Basically a persistent battle with in a regiment vs regiment battle. Basically as people quit, allow new players to join and make the battle last until either one side or the other achieves all the victory conditions such as capturing and holding locations, destroying enemy supply depots, destorying or disable enemy drop ships, etc. That would be a hell of a game.

Well if you were a Clan commander then yes you are correct. You would analyze the battlefield and then have your omnimechs configured to accommodate the best strategy for winning. However if you were going to be fighting in a situation where you had limited supplies, you would still very well likely config your force with lasers and PPCs even on Terra Therma.

Okay, but I also expect to never see a Dual Gauss K2 again......... Since in Lore, they don't exist. So start running your fully stock mechs from now on.

So you wanna walk 100x furthersthen normal to that one piece of superior terrain that one side camps every single game? no thanks... not without randomly placed bases at the very least.

We do need a brawler map, river city is not it. the sniper team wins nine times out of ten on river city, heck there was one of the battles in the tourney which was a perfect example of it...

Id love a map where bringing a ppc or guassrifle would just mean you brought a weapon with 400+ meters of useless extra range, where the clan er large was the worst waste of tonnage and heat you could bring... there are maps where bringing a srm brawler gimps your team, I don't see why there shouldn't be a few maps where bringing a sniper gimps your team.

Snipers and long ranged builds pay PGI's bills obviously...everyone knows that people who primarily brawl are broke freeloaders in this game.

Probably some benevolent snipers in your unit...possibly former poptarters. You should thank them the next time you "see" them.

Doubtful, but even if they could, they would never get passed Metal Gear Rex!

You can download the map on the PTS server (was available a half hour ago), but actually playing the map might be an issue because an unforeseen error occurred.

I hope it is a tight and claustrophobic map. The game is lacking a real up close map.

Some other maps (River City and Frozen City) have sections of tight urban fighting, but also have long sight lines and elevated positions for missiles and sniper weapons. These maps are still a mix of both short and long range. I want a map that is nothing bu short range brawl. Hopefully this will be closer to that.

Alpine is the pure long range map, give us a pure short range map.

Yeah, the MW4 urban maps were good because they facilitated close range combat, while also providing long sight lines down streets.

It looks promising... I'd like to see a full cityscape soon, but this should be a nice change to the large open maps. I bet that big building in the center will feature all kinds of nasty battles.

I more looking at that lower left hand corner.... major defensive set up if those round structures have any height.

Something tells me those are just scenery and you won't be able to get in, on, or past them

The map looks great, but if there is any water and it is red or brown, Betty will blow a fuse, I am actually quite calm about these things.

Quite honestly, I wish we had this mode in game. It would be somewhat similar to War Thunder's Historical and realism modes. I usually prefer playing Arcade there but playing these alternative modes can be pretty amazing too.

Honestly it would be fun as hell to play stock historical mode. You would have to make Clan vs IS battles 5 vs 12 though which would be pretty accurate now that I think about it.

Which is why you wouldn't try. :D

I regularly see good light pilots eat bigger mechs in the city sections of River City and Crimson. They're not idiots, they don't stand down a street, in front of a AC40 JM6 and try to slug it out with him.
They weave in and out, taking pot shots, avoiding fire. Now shooting from behind, now jumping on top of a building to snipe from above, then running for cover and doing it all over again.

Beyond tired of hearing the BS that the game has to be designed around this ridiculous notion that lights should be 1) able to stand and brawl with heavies and assaults or 2) protected from any situation where that may happen.

It'd also be nice to see this mass delusion for a massive metropolis map where essentially everyone's stuck fighting in an area like the 'tunnel' on frozen city. Really? You want 2 abreast slug fests where you have no where to take cover? pfft... madness.

Again though. If you are a successful mechwarrior with a mechbay full of mechs each built for different engagement environments, wouldn't you pick a mech out of your collection that was best suited for the planet you were going to?

So you go to fight on an Earth-type planet. So.... Jungles of Central America? Antarctica? Plains of Russia or Ethiopia? Midwestern North America in Summer or Winter? Florida in July?

What if you prep a mech for a drop during the Winter in Alaska but end up finding out your target is actually in Australia which is in the middle of Summer?
