Yes, I understand that a solo player who is done with his challenge is still playing to win. As would groups be playing to win, because what else would we want to do when we play this zero sum game?

The challenge is to get to 50 wins (or 10 or 20, or whatever level you think is right for you). Now, there has been much discussion about group play versus solo play here on the forums (and I imagine on reddit and elsewhere) in terms of how grouping up has an effect on an individual's win/loss ratio.

Is it "easier" to win when grouped? Do some groups have a better chance at winning versus other groups?

For a win based challenge, I think limiting it to solo players does a better job at leveling the playing field for everyone--more so than allowing group wins to count. This is my opinion. Also, as an event labeled as a "challenge" there are an awful lot of people claiming it is "too hard" to do alone. Challenges are hard, otherwise this would be the Path to Victory give-away.

I agree with you that the field of play must be level for everyone, but having a Challenge or Event that is excluisvly for SOLO players excludes the Group only Players or at least those who spend the Majority of their time in the Group Queue. Why can we not compete for challenges in the Group Queue? I'm not saying we need to mix with SOLO players (glad that was fixed, bad judge of skill anyway for a large group/12 man) but had you used/seen my previous post in quote and not taken it out of context you would see I asked for Competitions like this to offer two queues of competition just like the normal queue does. SOLO and GROUP, I just don't get why Groups are excluded from these things....brings players back to bad habits over the weekend. :D

I don't think it was "too hard" I think it took too much time for the Average Solo player and Group guys who got it done just dropped multiple mechs as fast as they can, either suicide or power down if it looks bad and try another. I got my 20 plus wins and I was fine with that but getting to 50 alone just seemed boring and grindy to me. I took the time to Master my Kit Foxes so its wasn't a waste or anything but after that I was done, That is hours and hours of play time away from my group....I just didn't get it. Was backwards of everything I wanted and worked for since I have started playing....CW, Group play, VOIP. If i wanna play alone I will bust out the SNES or PS1.

Well yeah, but there are People that play solo. And since there are events for 12 Man groups, it is a try to balance that by giving solo-pugs their thing. And PGi tries to alternate the Faction-Challenges so that there is something different every week, which is good on their part.

12-man events? I think there has been one tournament. Were their other events contingent on group play? I dont mean events where you could group or solo to achieve the challenge. I mean actually group specific events. Seems like just the one.

Yea no Group Events coming down the pipe I know off.....

One (1) BETA Tournament so I hope more of that is to come, and those event still did not reward or require any kind of Team Play...it's just a IF YOUR STARS ALIGN kinda idea. Even a decent large group can be brought down and at least hindered by a few Leeroy Jenkins.

Ahhh these lovely whiners, let me guess, you are all LRM players who need :

at least 1 light to scout for them.
1 medium too protect you.

But sure, it's others people fault that you require 2 people to completely adept their game for you so you can be effective.

Ohhh and if someone rushes too scout for you and dies as a result he's a "suicider"....

Ohhh and ofc next too basically forcing 2 people to play for you in a PUG, if the other team is skilled enough you'll barely do damage with your LRM, but yup it's all your teams fault, not your insistence too play a high coordinated play style in a PuG which demands other people play specific roles too support you.

Please shove that ego of yours where the sun don't shine whining LRM players., because you are doing nothing wrong huh ? and you are completely adaptable ! cough cough....

PS. Quote on original post still wrong, it is "The sinews of war are infinite money." Marcus Tullius Cicero, Roman Senator & General.

This is a really bizarre post. People complain about suicide farmers and you equate them to some sort angelic teammate that is only trying to spot for the evil LRM boats. I have to ask. Are you serious? You may dislike LRMs and I suppose that might be understandable seeing as you are new and have not figured out how to play yet, but LRMs have nothing to do with the frustration created by people essentially cheating their way through this event.

Went 23/17 (1.35 W/L), so not too bad on the MM. Seemed harder early on until I won a few, then the teams started behaving like a team.

Perhaps people learned that working together was much better than working as individuals. That or I finally got up to an ELO bracket where people already knew how to work together.

I liked this challenge...
but...
I'm at 7 wins of 35 games...
Either I suddenly started playing like complete crap or my teams were pitted against meta-360-no-scope ninja elite mechwarriors. lol

Seriously, did something happen to the ELO or what?
I'll be lucky to make it to 10 wins at this rate... :D

My w/l ratio is dropping like a rock!

Finally done, did it by bits here and there, still took really alot of time.

PGI, generally you are moving in the right direction, just make it kill/assist point based.

Was i suppose to get an email about this challenge!?!?

If you've not started on it you still have i think 19+ hrs to complete the first challenge? Aim for that at the very least.

Just going to piss my little bit into the feedback ocean. I appreciate the challenges and rewards so far. However, I much prefer the kill point system. I believe this is a lot less frustrating. Especially when we're forced into the solo queue. I believe it also encourages each player to pull their own weight in match rather than coasting on the other 11 in the team to victory. I also feel there's room in a point system to allow group drops to count at some lesser ratio to solo drop points (to prevent abuse).

So Premade and Pugs are divided, can you confirm that? For example if I join a group of 2, launching a public match I will face another group of 2 dudes, 4 player in total, is this correct? Thanks.

No. Matches are still 12 v 12. Group size may vary, but will only be groups.

Eg: my wife and I often play in a group of 2. We may get dropped with:
-1 group of 10
-2 groups of 5
-1 group of 4 and 2 groups of 3.

The oppossing team will be made of similarly made groups.

All,

As I have previously posted. I'm 100% sure that PGI forced us to PUG for this for a reason. Be that collection of stats, or stress test the MM, whatever. It should benefit us all soon enough.

Could we please stop crying over the lack of groups for this challenge? I'm sure that PGI have heard us.

Trust me. As per my previous post, my wife likes to play MWO in a group with me and I heard enough about it (while PUGging for my 50) without hearing it here too :D

Really hope she doesn't see this...

Server Statuses are up, everywhere I check. Yet when I login on the game client, it repeatedly tells me the servers are undergoing maintenance. It's Monday, August 25 @ 19:05 EST. Anybody at all else having trouble with this?

I'm dying to get 50 victories here and I have little time to do it!
Damn weekend getaways! :D

It activates the 7 days reward time. Shouldn't activate my 69 stored days.

Whoops misread that. Dusting of the Founder atlas mech would be fun. =]
