Stormcrow Prime - only mech I've ever owned that I literally have not changed anything from the stock build.

You can get by just fine if you drop 4 heat sinks and upgrade the ERLLs to LPLs - you generate the same heat, for all the good parts of the pulse lasers, and cutting out the painful two second hold time on the ERs.

I love my Mediums, and they're probably my favourite weight class to play. Glad to see a thread about them.

1) Nova Prime - 12 ERSLas + 4 MGs

2) Shadow Hawk 2K - SRM Brawler

3) Wolverine 7K - SRM Brawler

4) Shadow Hawk 2D - AC/20 Brawler

5) Hunchback 4P - Death Star

Honorable mentions to the CN9-D "Gotta Go Fast" and CN9-AH (my favourite Cent from CB).

In no particular order:

1) Trebuchet-7K - the hunchless-back. Like a Hunchback, But without a hunch.
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...06b3be1eb03ca63

2) Blackjack-1 - Gauss cannon. Lovely little support mech, good for taking out key components.
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...eaaa1fdd3ebf146

3) Blackjack-1X - the regular 8x med las build.

4) Wolverine-6R - SRM brawler.
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...9c8a8568065900b

5) Wolverine-6K - Pulse brawler with lrm support. The 10 don't do that much but it's nice to have when you can't reach em with the pulses. Plus it helps soak up AMS for your team mates LRM's.

My top five Mediums are probably my top five mechs period.

1 - Griffin-1N: If I could only have one mech to pilot for the rest of my life this would be it. Recently this build had 2 Medium Lasers but I dropped them to upgrade 2 SRM2s to SRM4s.

2 - Blackjack-1X: This is not the most popular BJ because it has no JJs. But I find that carrying dual PPCs and dual Medium Lasers at 109kph very useful.

3 - Hunchback Grid Iron: Nothing special here. Just a stock 4G build with a better engine. I sacrifice some left side armor for an extra ton of ammo, which is useful.

4 - Wolverine-6R: This mech will ruin your life up close. Had to recently downgrade one SRM6 to a 4 so I could add more ammo. I was constantly running out before. I very consistently deal very high damage in this mech.

5 - Hunchback-4J: What?! A Huncback 4J? I have to admit, I included this a little bit just to have something different. I elited this mech long before they fixed the model. But this may be my favorite LRM mech. And when ammo is dry I am still a problem at close range. I got a solid 3rd of my 50 wins with this mech and had several 4+ kill matches with it too. Downside? It's hot.

I really wanted to include Yen Lo, HBK-4H and my other BJs but if I must only list my favorite (or top, whatever) 5 then I will.

1) Blackjack Breadknife v3
Fast, low profile, high mounted arm weapon for poking, jump jets, twin PPC.
The breadknife is my go to strike/energy support medium.

2) Hunchback Boombox
Another fast medium, providing LRMs face slaps from behind a brawler's shadow.
The new Vindicator Hero might be challenging the Boombox's seat soon.

3) Griffin Firecracker
My brawler medium with 3x SRM6 and 3x ML, fast, relatively tough, manoeuvrable and packs a punch.

4) Griffin Bloodhound
This build replaced my KT18 Streakboat light hunter, trading 1 missile slot for jump jets.
Hang with the group and ward off pesky lights.

5) Blackjack Mini-dakka
Even with the change to AC/2's range, I still love this AC/2 boat.
Instead of a long range suppressor, it is now a support suppressor, escort a heavy or assault and disorientate his target to stop return fire.

Honorary mention
Centurion CN9-All Range
A slowish escort with an assortment of weapons to cover any range, LRMs to support the lights and medium in the front line, PPC and ML to work with the heavy and assault when we finally arrive at the scene.

XL 280? xtra DHS or ammo? I run the 300xl and 4 tons ammo in mine, so kinda curious? (Though my alt acct uses a 280xl and an er large)

I run YEN-LO-WANG

XL280, LPL, 3 tons ammo. Can't load the client right now and check, may have shaved a ton of ammo for an extra in-engine DHS... but yeah. It's glorious. Easily one of my favourite mechs, with the LPL allowing a shorter beam duration while maintaining an effective ability to fight at range compared to the ERLL. Not nearly as long, but long enough for most non-Alpine engagements.

Both the AC20 and LPL range extension modules where mounted (because heat really isn't a problem); though I'll probably swap the LPL out for the cooldown reduction if that happens.

CN9-AL. Tried the others but I just don't like the tonnage sacrifice that comes with ballistics. 3 medium pulse lasers, srm 18 with a large laser for range and you are a speedy hard hitting mofo on the battlefield.

1) Yen-Lo-Wang. Nothing beats the feeling when I'm hanging out with my wang out. 300XL of course. Still very good - an absolute monster before the AC20 nerf. So fast I can get around and shoot pretty much everything in the back and even chase down pesky lights.

2) Griffin-3M. That cockpit! That torso twist! That SRMs! A new favourite thanks to the Buckton-fix.

3) SHD-2D. My mech when it comes to competitive play. Durable and high mounted AC20.

4) PPCicada. My ride in the mediums vs. world - tournament and it took me all the way to top-10.

5) BJ-1, the flying AC20. So much AC20 for so little weight. What not to like?

Kintaro 20- 300XL, 4 Mlas and 3 ASRM-6 - no long range firepower but crazy close in. Ive brought down a lot of heavier mechs with this, usually by slinking up behind them

Trecuchet 3C- pretty standard 2 LRM-15, 3 mlas and TAG. With a med missleboat and TAG I move to the front to spot for the Heavier boats (I get called crazy too)

I love all mediums because they take effort to pilot which leads to more satisfying wins.

Since i am too lazy to torso twist i am using this build HBK-4G(F) to keep the pressure up on the enmy. On normal maps it takes a long time of constant fire until it runs hot so i just stay on target. Yeah, torso twist away, i don't care, you'll get plastered with a constant stream of damage anyway. And yes, it works pretty well.

My second build is the classic std250, AC20, 3ML setup, for those special moments when i want to make big holes into small targets.

I also got two builds for my 4SPs but rarely use them these days.

"I'm a medium mech pilot" said one of my painful topic.
But still they are the best, althought they'd deserve better quirkz, better "dimension" (shd too tall, centurion too large, etc.)

Because the greatest weapon of a mech is maneverability.

-1) my first mech ever. Still remember. I will never forget that afternoon in 1998.
As the manual suggested, a cadet had to start training with: TRC-4B, also referred to as the CHM-3 Chameleon Training Scout

0) my best mech ever: Shadowcat in MW3: 12 er-small laser and 140kph

Here in MWO.

1) SHD-2H: because this is DA mek. ac10/3srm4/ml 99 kph and JJ. Fantastic hardpoints, fantastic hitboxes. That cannon over left shoulder make me crazy: you can hit without being hit. And then cod: alpha, twist, alpha, twist, alpha.... I love you, SHD-2H.

2) When I want to relax: pure secondary support mech with TBT-7M. 40LRM , and 3 ml. It's relaxing.

3) When I want to feel the breeze .... Hit and Run with TBT-LG 2pml+4srm6 and 107 kph.

4) CDA-3M because sniping is good.

.......still waiting for my Assassin.....

A random thought here:

The Yen Lo Wang and HBK and AC20 BJ have been great mechs for a number of reasons, but they're killers now Clans are around.

This is because they're capable of fast striker/brawler combat that Clan mechs just can't do effectively. Even the Stormwang with an LBX20 can't match the YLW because of spread and randomization of crits. A medium packing an AC20 is a nasty beast, able to move fast, strike with agility and fade equally quickly, always putting all 20 damage on a pinpoint. An accurate, patient hunter with one of these mechs is capable of exploiting the Clan's greatest weaknesses very effectively: How terrible their weapons are in close quarters combat.

You wish. I could kill myself in a wang 3 times with a Stormcrow before overheating.
