Not sure what games you were playing before but it was not MWO. Most people I have playes with have been in the 30-60 year old range. There are different kinds of people but you do not have to play with the ones you dont like.

Sry sir, you must be thinking xbox. Team speak has never been like that for the 2+ years I have been on for this game.

So far I have only used teamspeak to chat with some buddies while I am dropping solo and they are in group. It is about the only way I can stand it having checked into several other groups. **** retentive is the operative on most channels I have found. All the usual stereotypes can be found there.
I like the group I am with because we use a ton of NSA alert words and give them stuff to think about while doing it all while they call targets and tactics.

If you can find a group your comfortable with it can be a lot of fun. Once you have been playing a while you get to see players a lot so you can set up your own.

No, that would be the allies. Seriously man, this is an obvious and across the board problem of teamspeak--either your allies are cutting over your music and drowning it out when they speak, or you have your jams going loud enough it drowns them out, in which case the point of using teamspeak in the first place is negated.

you shouldnt have to use 3rd party teamspeak just to interact with the community outside of individual matches

there should be a UI, to communicate in game on a wider level than in matches, if your planning on releasing content that requires people to exclusively interact with each other

we all know what SHOULD...but it isnt, and some people here just try to provide others with possibilities... we also shouldnt rely on 3rd party tools to have a proper Mechlab...

sad excuse...sorry, i mean no offense, but i have NO (as in ZERO) issues balancing TS, game, and music volumes out in a harmoning way... there are sliders in game, your music player, in TS options and on top of that in windows soundoptions (where you can finetune all the others furthers if needed)... not exactly a new invention, but i obviously have to tell you that...

For those of you who have not done so yet this weekend is the perfect time to get Team Speak and set it up. You wil meet lots of nice people and some jerks probably but it is a nice change from pugging it alone all the time. There are lots of people that will be happy to do a 4 man group with you and help you get up and going on team speak.

Teamspeak:

Advantages:
None.

Disadvantages:
Hearing a bunch of dumbasses yelling and verbally high-fiving and the like.
Being distracted by idiots calling out targets and the like.
Becoming disgusted with your fellow players so much so that you vow to PUG forever.
If you're a girl, probably getting hit on by a bunch of slimy greasebags.
Idiots interrupting your jams/favorite game music.
Takes up hardrive space.
Consumes bandwidth.
Puts deaf and/or blind players at a disadvantage versus those who can hear and see.

Plus, there are better VOIP services. Please stop shoving Teamspeak down everyone's throats.

Are you two for real? I take it you don't want to see in game voip either then?
I'll admit, I'm dumbfounded by these two posts.

This is not CoD, the learning curve likely keeps the twitchy pre-pubescent trash out.

Honestly, ive used TS for PSO and here and MWO and it add to the fun and teamwork.

The trash talk i hear in a pug is nowhere even close to what ive heard from the console subhumans buttonmashing their racist, sexist, homophobic posturings they use to hide their lack of skill and lack of personality.

I've probably played every type of FPS shooter out there on PC (CS 1.4-1.6, BF series, CoD series, MoH:AA) that the amount of whiny kids is way less than on other platforms (XBox PS)

Most of them reside in LoL, DOTA and to a lesser extent CS:GO. It's actually kind nice having them in one place.

Also if anyone is looking for a dirt cheap mic http://www.amazon.co...e/dp/B00029MTMQ (probably cheaper in NA, cos NA stuff is always cheaper) is great. Just clips onto headphone cable and boom, setup with better sound and mic than any gaming headset.

In-game VOIP is fine so long as it's possible for players to opt-out/mute it.

I like socializing just fine; I prefer to do it by text though. Did it ever occur to you that some players have auditory processing disorders or speech impediments and may not want to communicate via voice/hearing the same way they're forced to everyday IRL?

Did it ever occur to you that for some people it's more relaxing and fun to not have to talk or listen to people talking while you're trying to enjoy yourself playing a game? No, you just try to push them into using Teamspeak because it's funner for you.

I have had some bad experiences with MWO-related public TS; lots of people just don't get what is and is not appropriate on voicechat (i.e.: nobody wants to hear you yelling profanity when you die. I realize you're frustrated but there's no reason to hot mic while you vent your spleen.)

in general though there's no reason not to try it out; voip doesn't use enough bandwidth that it should be impacting anybody's game performance. Just do what I do and make aggressive use of local mute.

Also, test your push to talk settings and don't bind it to a key that controls some other in-game function.

Mouthbreathers who hot mic their argument with their wife, yelling at their kids, etc., is at an all-time high this weekend.

I actually use this mic. My Headphone mic went out but I love my old Plantronics Gamescon 377 headset so I just got this to clip on. Was $2.17 + $4.99 SHIPPING.

Good luck with all the teamspeak recruiting but really the core issue that needs to be addressed has been said.

Groups:

But hey creating a chat channel or Public/House/Faction rooms in game is too hard to moderate. So sucks for you in a team game!

Honestly I ceased to care a long time ago about them adding in game chat. TeamSpeak works fine and will have more features and a more robust development cycle etc.

Also people talk like yo have to play with people you do not like on TeamSpeak. The fact is you do not have to. Find a group of people you get along with and play with them.

People have disabilities no doubt, if thats the case then I don't think I would shout from the roof tops about the above.

Some people that are commenting must have this confused with Xbox Live... If you get someone that gets out of line you just kick them lol. I wonder why the pug queue is so difficult these are the folks I'm winging with.

I was worried you'd wind up hearing me mumbling profanities, but someone said you can set a push-to-talk key, so that's not a problem.

Yes, actually, voip is pretty bandwidth intensive and can kill some peoples' ping.

Now it's just a combination of realizing it would take me far too many games to get the mechbay, social anxiety, and laziness keeping me from it. Seriously. Going and installing, then setting up yet another voip program, then hunting down groups, then learning the military lingo (When you say delta, do you mean D on the grid, or the D enemy pilot? Do I have to say Delta? What if I don't know it, and say Delilah?)... All to get maybe 10 points a match, and needing 550 points or so.

Hope you guys enjoy the challenge. It seems like a great way to get more people out of their comfort zone and trying out group play; I assume this is a move to get people moving towards that sort of thing for the CW, so it has a larger adoptation. Fully commend the decision.

Never used TS for anything else than talking, but for the first time i used it to complete our 2 men group.
I asked in the lobby for 2 players wanting to do the challenge. They gave their ingame name and i added them to my friendlist to add them to the group. None of us could play with the microphone.

3 hours later of fun games, Tier 1 is completed, Tier 2 at 50% and Tier 3 at 30%.

Thanks to this challenge, i learned 4 men group is way more fun than 2 men group.
