Put largest engine on it and 6 jump jets with double PPC it is actually very fun mech to play. On new map where there is so much vertical movement it is just menace.
1R i probably overal most capable mech tho. Double LPL 3 medium lasers with largest XL engine and you have ok speed with some jump jet capabilty and decent sustained DPS.
I am still playing with 1x trying out PPC + AC10 or LPL and 2xAC2 etc. Not impressed

We're not going to get an IS 45-tonner with speed for years unless they really increase the engine cap on a present one with enough variants. Until then, we've got the BJ-1X and the upcoming Ice Ferret (129.6 KPH). Looking at Sarna, we've got a few fast 45-tonners sometime around 3053 and 3054, though some are dependent on MASC.

The problem with the AA is that you can't really utilize all of its strengths. You don't need to run at 116 KPH to support the team with dual-AMS, and moreso, it'd run hot anyways. There's a lot of juicy ideas, but you can't utilize everything and be all that effective, or at least, without running with weak armour, which plays against its strengths IMO.

I put a TAG in the head of my 1R. Its great for getting spotting and TAG assists. I'm also often using 4 MLs and a LRM20 I can get a decent amount of assists and do fairly consistent damage above 300 with it. Its more consistent than 3ML 2PPC, though the 3ML 2PPC does more damage in good matches.

I'm running mine with a STD engine, using the right side as a damage shield. Still can't quite find anything all that good for it with a STD, and an XL might be necessary.

Obviously it's a 45 tonners you can't expect to carry the team with it, but it performs well.
My favourite so far it the 1R with A-Lrm 20, head tag and 4 ML with max JJ and engine, it makes for a good lrm-skirmisher with a 400 damage avarage.
I still have to buy the 1AA but i was thinking to go for a PPC build for a mobile sniper.
It may not be the best meta medium but it's a reliable workhorse, performs really well and i absolutly don't regret buying it

Well you cant play for all of its strenghts because it will have none in that case
I focus on mobility with max JJ max engine and double PPC for hit and run (1xML for defence). I concede not using AMS. Because ether you are going to use AMS and stick to heavies or none at all and be more mobile hit and run machine.
Tried both and in my opinion for solo play 2xPPC max engine max JJ is much better. And more fun at least to me

It's more that nothing's right with them. They're slow 45-ton mechs with "meh" hardpoints and low mounts. The high-arm-mounted big gun capability of the BJ isn't there and they lack the ability to stack up enough lasers or missiles to really be good at either, instead being left with an inefficient mix.

ADDITIONAL INFO: 'juxstapo' is not a smurf account of Inflatable Fish's. jux does not do impressive things with Vindis.
MORE ADDITIONAL INFO: jux adores BJs. Even back when everyone else thought they were passe' jux was all about the BJ. Seriously, jux would take a BJ over anything in this game...
...and by that I mean to point out that it isn't a lack of regard for the lower end of the medium weight class, just a lack of patience and effort.
EDIT: fluh.. before MWO caused Smurfy to happen, (i.e. during MW4), "smurf" was a slang term for an alt-account. Because smurf's all have different names but look exactly alike... anyhoo...

Then moving onto large and medium lasers and SRM's.. It gets a little better.
The smallerish frame helps I tihnk. It's definately not very fast for a 45ton IMO, even with the max 235 engine. One of the mechs can go a bit quicker, and that one I survive a lot longer in.
The grind for XP isn't dreadful, but it's not particularily fun either.
I think I like them though. They have good torso twist and vertical arm movement. Looking forward to the quirks shedding some light on it though. It's definately not one of the better mediums, that's for sure.

AA i've settled in with a PPC and 3ML now and doing better than any of the other loadouts i've tried. lets me hang back and still contribute somewhat. more of a hit and run and as long as i don't panic in a brawl and use the PPC within 90m, heat is seldom an issue.
the 1R is actually growing on me a lot, 3ML, TAG and a ALRM 10 w/ 2 tons of ammo. lob LRMs for the early part of the match and when i run out (or get down to the last few shots just in case i need them) hopefully enough of the enemy has been beaten up that i can finish stuff off with the MLs. gets into trouble alone but in a supporting role it does well for me. simple build but useful.
