On the other hand, one could say "PvE is just learning the rules" while PvP offers a far better test of your skill....
works both ways, allthought i understand that some people like pve more and others pvp, i still think, no need to be snarky, or?

Indeed PvP does test your reflex more. But skill is more than pointing and trigger pulling. I can chose all the right firing positions and weapons but if I cannot click the button before you I will lose. I am getting to old to be playing vs 20 somethings.

Thats you bullshitting yourself in all honesty, its just a matter of pratice
BUT, if pve floats your boat, cool thing, as stated, i pref. PvP but, at the end of the day, if it is beneficial for the community as a whole, and the game, why not have it?
*edit* and yes, PvE does need a certain skillset and practice, would never denie that, its just different skillsets to some degree, i just stubed my toe on "pvp is mostly about epeen" which it, for most, is not, this "its only about epeen" thing has been floating arround for so long, and it works towards both sides, its just boring and counter productive to reduce a question of taste to such a stupid statement, dont you think?

PvP in a well designed game is by definition a fair fight. Players such as myself like PvE specifically because it doesn't have to be fair, we can decide how challenging the game is without giving up freedom of choice in playstyles like we would have to in PvP.
I play single player games in hard mode by default, I can't do the same here without restricting myself to weaker builds or tactics.

I never ever played MechWarrior for the multiplayer. Ever. In fact, I don't own a single game bar this one that I play primarily multiplayer on. I started on MechWarrior II because of the immersion, because it felt like I was piloting a real 'Mech. The missions were fun, the customization was fun, the economy was fun... and, while MP will usually offer a greater challenge, you loose that immersion. Because a player is just another person playing with rules set by the game, while an AI is something programmed to fit in with the lore and act in a way you'd expect it to. Also a MP game, apparently, has to be balanced to hell and back in order to avoid angering people that are here for balance and balance only.
I've got nothing against MP, but people need to remember there's more to a game than just testing your skill against another's.

Yeah finaly Role Warfare!
We even have different versions of tanks! We have Avoidance Tanks, namely light mechs, we haver EHP tanks, namely Assaults, and we have ECM tanks!
We have DPS roles, like LRM support DPS and Poptart DPS and Brawler DPS,
hey, we need a Healer role!
And while we are at it, new Modules! like "Aggro-tech" increases threat generation by 50%
