Yeah, I think you are. You are right about the ego part though, I dont think we need elitists for the part.

look at the op and tell me who in that list isnt an egotist or elitist? Roland comes to mind but I think he said no

Just my opinion Buddah, I just do not feel a self declared elitist should be anywhere near this project, making the statement alone means its about them and not about the player base, I just hope Russ sticks with those who play regularly and always have, and not those that quit playing because of their ego. Like Russ said, its very easy for him to get that fact. Roland is a player, if he did decline then that's a loss for us all.

Which means MischiefSC, I am now on board, lets get to who.

@Roadbeer;

We are reckoning without our host at the moment. We are not going to be deciding all the details, Russ will.

Currently you have an invite to go with some other people to a ts chat with Russ about what I'd going to happen and participate in that discussion.

To which you are saying no? Because...

Go to the chat. All of you. Have the reasonable discussion. A lot can be lost on text, go have the conversation.

Fair enough, just let me know when/where

Ziiyor
Li Song
Peiper tends to be a pretty good person as far as I know
Spiral tends to not err on the side of egoism

Not many but there are folks out there. At least in my opinion.

The most difficult part of that judgement? Objectivity.

When we agree with a person, we tend not to see egotism or elitism as easily. It's when one disagrees with, or dislikes the person in charge, that those traits seem to "become all too apparent".

If I'm wrong, and the council is supposed to be more than a data collection service, I would love to be part of it. But the more I read about it, it seems like it's just an outsourcing of Niko's job. Am I wrong?

And here we have it, PGI has already got the staff position to do what needs to be done, as a matter of fact didnt they just put on 2 or 3 new staff for community management?.
Want community involvement? put up a poll to see who and who doesnt want a council and put that on the Launch page.

I would prefer certain comp units not have a stake in how I'm represented if possible. You need people who are even and reasonable, devoid of any ego or attitude.
I would have Joseph Mallan (I may not like all he says, but he is honest and direct), Konniving(a reasonable fellow with good point making and the ability to detach) and Kjudoon (a staunch lrm supporter, any change to ecm WILL affect lrms usage and he knows a lot about their use).

How bout we say one person per unit?

That way you cant get say 7 lords or SJR (or whoever is huge now) on a council and ppl wont scream about that

So much noise, so little signal. Thank heaven that PGI posts in blue now.

If only they had some kind of "PGI posts only" button you could click next to any thread they post in...

Frankly, I see no issue with the top 7 nominees who has the most votes. They should be enough.

So if you're on the nomination list doc you've gotten a PM from me just asking for general times, which we'll try to get updated as effectively as possible in the doc. Remember though the time for the meeting with Russ is almost certainly going to be set by his schedule; it's still going to help to have an idea of who's going to be around when. Maybe we can talk him into 2 gathers or the like depending on how it breaks out.

If you'd already sent me your times and got another PM I just wanted to make sure you had all the relevant links.

Not trying to stifle anyones opinion or the like here but we need to keep moving forward. We can always walk back and take another route later but at last report Russ said he'd wanted to move ahead and give this a try. We'll see where that goes, but we've got to actually get that moving first.

It will also help down the road I think to have some basic scheduling info on the people who finally end up in this process. Some 'town hall' sort of stuff on TS so that the people selected can speak to people about what the topic is, how it's all going to work and the like seems like a good idea.

It seems like the whole point on this is to better disseminate info from PGI out to the community and to then better collect the response to that and funnel it back to PGI. We've got an opportunity for a running dialog of sorts here with PGI directly on a few balance decision. This is a better option than we've ever had and may ever have again. Again, please, not saying it's not legit to dissent but try to keep it constructive. We all want a better game, PGI, players, everyone. We all want everyone to have fun and enjoy the experience. Any process that increases involvement and dialog on that is going to be moving forward. There's no reason this has to be 'based on' anything else; let's focus instead on this as a starting point and see what works best for MW:O.

We've got people here who were fanatics about BT before EVE was around but people who were fanatical about BT when some of the people who coded and developed EVE were swimming in their daddies testicles. We've got some strengths to build on in a gaming community that don't exist elsewhere, we're a more nimble and manageable population size and have an atypically well educated population.

Let's see what works best for MW:O and focus less on what's happened elsewhere. This is where we start. Please feel encouraged to participate.

I nominate Divine Retribution.
Overall, he is one the best players in the game.
He rarely does the forum warrior.
He is not great on authority for authority's sake.
And he really, really doesn't want to be nominated.

All good reasons to me!

no no no no no!!! dont drag eve online's level of problems and problematic "councilmen" behaviour into my MWO.

*it became a popularity contest/alliance epeen-fest and legitimizes to Player vs Dev's level of toxicity, as a player of eve online for 8+ years, the player council thing was bad for CCP as a company *and whining brats rally behind the players who did things for their own interest, generating more bad PR. players in charge will NEVER be happy unless you give them an "I WIN" button.

Let the devs do their thing and take suggestions in suggestion box. dont give actual POWER to the players to make changes.

I don't want to see this game got dragged down to hell giving PLAYERS power for it.

giving players power will result in a nerf fest to whatever the leet deems it.

*IE: doomsday weapon in eve got changed from firing through a cyransoral field to close range. that was cool.
*as someone who been on the recieving end of it

So what is NiKo and his department paid to do?
Programming? Art? Networking? no they are community managers, i seem to have the wrong idea of what this job entails, i always thought it was part of their job to interact with the community and be the mouth/ears for the devs.
