This is definitely refreshing, and encouraging.

Seriously, the doomsayers will spin this as they will, but this level of communication has not been seen since EARLY CB. And THIS is the level it needs to stay at.

It's like IGP shot themselves in the foot and walked away worse for wear because they insisted on intervening...I'm sure in an attempt to speed up thier return on investment. When perhaps instead, they could have stayed vested and worked with PGI toward a long term success.

It should not take long to figure out the ones who want to help and for this to succeed were here all along. The tension will ease quickly (as already shows signs) once people feel like they are being heard.
In game daily this whole week, in forums daily, yea I think something has changed for the better.

Can you explain why exactly we never had this level of communication before? Was it really all because of your publisher and if so, why was that? Also, we all expect this level of communication to continue permanently, not just because you have to prove yourselves since you are on your own now and are trying to start another game. Don't mean to be a pessimist, but I'm sure some will think it's just a temporary measure since you are starting another game as well and need the PR.

IF it is sustained, it will make a huge difference to everyone's confidence and support going forward.
However, if it's a short-term unsustainable reaction to last week's PR schmozzle, and just a case of "we're on our best behavior for a while cause we're asking you to crowd fund a new game and a new Mech pack" then it will ultimately just reinforce disenfranchisement with PGI.
It takes more than a week of good communication to erase the legacy of two years of poor - even antagonistic - attitudes by PGI's leaders to their customers.
Anyway I really hope this does mark a turning point of sorts and will be a sustained effort by PGI's leaders to improve communication - by themselves and in encouragement to their staff.

Continue to keep up the communications here on the forums and I am sure the atmosphere here will drastically improve and become much more positive.
Cheers,
Eboli.

Thanks PGI for taking the time to talk with us directly via the MWO forum. It's appreciated.

I'll give you some ideas, since the likely hood of Russ actually answering these loaded questions is pretty much null.
Burning bridges is never good within ones own industry, and Russ took ownership of many mistakes that were things he felt he/PGI should have done better.
In most western companies, marketing calls the shots or at least has humongous say. (With some famous tech companies, being exceptions to the norm).
Because marketing makes money.
IGP's marketing probably had a lot of say, and input on both communication with the customer base as well as product (the entire product) development focus & direction.
This doesn't mean IGP is evil, or that Marketing departments are evil. This is pretty much par for the course of most companies.
On top of that, Russ also touched on why things were inefficient, if you're interested you should listen to the town hall.
