[Short Tail]

Ok, need to submit a bug/feature request. The name can be made with several spaces but at least on the forums it appears as if there is only one space.

PGI would need to set a restriction of only 1 space between names. Spaces at the end of the name does not register.

I will drop into the game a few times shortly to see how it is displaced during a drop.

Each character does generate an account name/code that is unique, PGI will need to tighten some things up on account create then run the names through a program to weed out duplicates and make alterations to those with more than one space between the names.

Johnny Z (of course is it really the real Johnny Z) though should chill a tad and also submit a bug report, pointing to this thread at least.

Now, to set my profile the same as Johnnys and make my signature the same. /kidding.

I can see how this can be abused to create a hostile environment.

Edited. In game and the profile folder, you can tell there is more than one space. The profile folder is showing 4 spaces.

PS Talk about raking in the cadet bonus and achievements on a new account. Glad there are more trial mechs, and halfway decent ones, than when I first started... approx 700k on the first drop

You'd think so, until the report ticket that is reporting the other guy's offensive action, lists your name, and suddenly you get banned for something you didn't do.

It doesn't work that way, they query for matches where you were paired with the offending name and can pull values from those matches. It's not a blind "so and so did something wrong" and someone gets banned. Usernames are just usernames, under the hood in cryengine/database the userIDs are used. While logged into mwomercs, look at the top - click profile, and check out your userid. That's the uniqueID generated to prevent such issues. This issue was solved a LOOOOOOONG time ago in online games.

However - the Mods are human, and make mistakes as well.

I have been repeatedly accused of doing things - and moderated for things (IE temporary bans) that upon further examination, the moderator admitted to have turned out to not have been my doing.

MINE started a year ago when some guy asked "which one?"

booom blew my leg off at the start, seems another player at that time with dawg in his name was team kiling etc, so, I can appreciate the OP's rant/post

but yes, a mental list of those who go above and beyond the call of stupid.
Not noobs, they are easy to spot, I mean team killers, back shooters, rats, and exceptional players, threats if they're on the other side, make sure and hug if they're on my side etc

I would point out that in-game you can actually have the same name with a lower and upper case letter, for example someone could conceivable make a dahzer and the system would have no problem with it

There was a heffey running around making the exact opposite kinds of posts to what Heffay is well known for.

I say that with (relatively little) fear of Name and Shame trouble - because heffey's account has vanished entirely. (Which apparently includes all posts made by him - as there was one I had bookmarked for humor's sake, which is gone)

I will always be DavidHurricane, even if someone rips off my username. There is only one me, and there is only one you (of course, it helps that I have a Founders Package, so if someone tried to rip my account off they'd do a poor job).

Technically they can steal you reputation (or at attempt to least ruin it)

But on the whole - yes, so long as we have understanding people over in Support, there is not much they can do
(in the long term anyways)

You could potentially get accidentally banned though for someone impersonating you and a Mod not double checking the name close enough.

And then contact support and ask them to double and triple check the account that posted v.s the account that was banned. They'll find that the two accounts have different emails and access portals. It'll only cause a minor mix up. It isn't the end of the bloody world.
