So this is something that I've brought up and seen brought up in a few other threads but I figured it should have its own thread since those threads were about mech packs and if Phoenix should be rereleased. Right now there are 4 bonus mechs between the 1yr customer appreciation mechs and the Mad Dog.
The Mad Dog you get by buying both the top level Clan packs and that would get you the King Crab and Atlas as well as long as you do it soon. So it is pretty high up there.

The 3 1yr mechs you get different ways.
Centurion - spend MC
Atlas - pre-order anything
King Crab - pre-order top tier package

Thing is that doesn't make sense to me since somebody could spend
$87 if they bought Phoenix back when that was available and spent $7 on MC and get all 3.
But if you spent $120 on a invasion clan pack and $100 on MC you won't get a King Crab.
And if you spent $300 on MC over the years you only get a Centurion.

Now of course these are bonuses which have been added but to me it seems like if you are going to do customer appreciation rewards then you should do it based on actual money spent, not when it was spent. They already announced that overlords would be getting the King Crab so leave that as is but make another way to get it be based on the money you spent. So if you never pre-ordered something but spent X amount of money then you get the King Crab and Atlas. I would probably also have these rewards a ongoing thing so once people spend a certain amount they get those rewards. Good incentive to keep spending. Probably do the same for the Mad Dog but I would guess it would need to be pretty high.

Seems like a win win to me. Gives Customers a reason to keep spending money. Lets IS purists get the Atlas and King Crab without having to buy a Clan pack. So no need to re-release the Phoenix pack so the original Phoenix buyers keep their exclusivity that some want so much.

This IS how most people do Loyalty Packages. It would be vastly preferable to having to buy packages of mechs I have no intention of piloting to get mechs I do intend to pilot.

Geez.

While I don't disagree that it would be probably a better way, I do love how even when PGI tries to do something nice, and under no obligation to do so, people still get upset.

Seriously, here's an idea, how about PGI just say screw it, and not offer anything to anyone, so nobody get's their feelings hurt?

I'm still pretty miffed that I paid as much as/more than some users and don't qualify for the King Crab, so yes, I support taking a user's aggregate spending into account

$120 legendary founder counts, $80 overlord counts, but not the $120 Daishi pack or my total aggregate which is closer to $200.

I already told you, your gift for spending money is the Atlas and Centurion
The KC is for people who got Top Tier packages
You're getting your gift, just not the one you want.

This exactly.

I do understand both sides and I do feel the OPs pain because I am more than a little disappointed I won't be able to own an "invasion" model of the Mad Dog even though I have spent over $400-$500 on mostly sight unseen and untested content simple because I don't have $360 to buy a pack of 12 mechs consisting of 8 mechs I will never play.

However loyalty comes in lots of different flavors and one of those flavors are people who are loyal enough to always purchase the top tier packages even when they half consist of substandard mechs. That dedication is what PGI is rewarding with the King Crab. The other mechs are to reward other levels of participation.

I think the packs are fair, you get bonus's depending on what you spent at the time.
If you want the maddog upgrade your packs, it not like they are stopping you getting it.
If you don't have the money then that's just life, my best friend has a very nice Tag watch, i don't moan at the shop because i got a casio and a seko last year and they let him upgrade his watch to a new tag for $2000 which cost $2500 normally.
I just accept that i don't have the money but i could buy one if i saved up.

I'm getting everything but the mad dog, I just can't justify that kind of money right now after some unexpected expenses. I can see how this might bum people out. But I do think it's a fair approach. Founders and I overlord cost less than the clan deal, but were also much smaller. Regardless, the message is clear, we want a lot of you to get something nice for supporting us, and the earlier you supported us the more we value that support. What you're getting is hero mechs and gifts worth around 85 dollars. Don't spit on that because it's given in 10's instead of mostly 20's

Why does it even matter?

Everyone wants the KC for the big Dakka....and it's going to be OP as soon as it hits....and it's going to make the whine flow like the Mississippi....and when it's finally released for cbills, it's going to get nerfed like the Nova...straight into the ground.

I wouldn't be miffed if they added a completely separate bonus for players who have purchased MC over a certain level. Somewhere around 300 MC so it's comparable to the free Vulture deal. And that's as someone who current does not qualify for the Top Tier award and also wouldn't qualify for a 300MC award.

Give them a Mauler variant maybe, since it's already been announced that it's being worked on... even if the Mauler isn't ready by Dec.

So people who spent more money don't deserve the same reward as people who spent less money, just because of labels, got it.

Well, there are time limits on things in life. Look at California's Prop 13. One could argue that it is unfair that current homeowners (non-eligible mech package buyers or those who didn't buy enough) have to pay more in property taxes than buyers from the 1970s that were grandfathered in (Founders, etc).

Nobody said it was fair
You simply don't qualify for those awards

I'd be favored by "money spent" rather than "packs purchased".

However, I do think PGI is being fair. It's one thing to buy MC vs Pre ordering stuff. The later requires much more faith in PGI and their unreleased goods, months before they become available.
You can get the king crab the same day it comes out, just not with the 30% cbill bonus :)

Oh oh I'll play the MCpeen game
989.00 spent on transactions since oct 2012, verified by support
Overlord pack pre order
Saber pack pre order
Warhawk pack pre order
Wave II pack pre order

Crying about mechs given out of thanks from PGI, NEGATIVE!!!!!
I support this game because I love it and want it to grow. I dominate in IS or clan tech and carry the teams and this game as best I can. PGI, take my money, keep rockin this game.

For thw record, its not clan mechs that are op, I AM OP

Long live MWO!!

I did preorder. but my $120 preorder is not valued the same as other $120 preorders. Very asymmetrical.

There is a big difference between pre-ordering a fixed package of mechs with bundled extras (MC/premium), than buying MC and spending on specific very specific items (for instance I still haven't dropped in a locust, adder, direwolf, warhawk, or summoner yet).

I but I agree with the notion that people people who financially support the game outside of packages deserve a reward, like a CN9-AH. I think it would even be fair to include a Whale bonus for players who spend $300, maybe a non-custom/prime King Crab.

I get where Dario is coming from to an extent. Between Mech Credits and the a la carte bundle I have purchased, my spending on MW:O has reached roughly $200.00. While I qualify for a few nice rewards, the nature in which I spent all of that cash doesn't even rate a forum badge, let alone a King Crab!
