In the Mech Warrior universe most pilots had 1 mech or were provided 1 mech. They were passed down generationally much like armor and swords in medieval times. Of course we will all be the exception rather than the rule because it is a game.

I really don't know how many I'll end up wanting. If the founder's Jenner is enough to do what I want I may not get/use anything else.

This is a game not real life
Real life I would love a mech, just one would be fine

Here
I need several to fill what is needed for those that can not support my clan
And running the same old mech day in and out gets old
I have little tanks just for fun too

NEED - one

realistically - 4+

reason: you cant always field the diverse lance/company you need to with the guys you'll have online at any given time/battle. You'll need to be competent in multiple mechs so that those without the option of choosing a different mech (4-5 months from now when more and more join the BF) can fill their role, and you can fill the hole as needed.

At least 2 of each class, I like having diversity when playing with my lance to adapt into the circumstances/roles.

Speaking for myself, I want them all. Every single one. I want to try them all!

I'd like to just try a few out, see what role fits me best. I like to snipe in BF3, so maybe a lone wolf type mech would work, but I'm willing to try out more coop mechs, like a Raven...oooh Raven.

A Mechwarrior needs only one, maybe a spare mount in case his prime gets shot out from under him. But I would take as many as I am allowed. Company, maybe? ;)

I'd like to have a bunch, but I'm sure after a little I'll settle into one that I will use most of the time.

CookieMonster said it best. I guess my best answer to follow suit with his is, as many as it takes to get the job done!

You need at least 4 for drop ship battles. I may go with more then that in case I totally flub a couple of matches.

enough to form a Lance of mechs. So 4 is the right number for me.

I fully intend to spend days, weeks, months and years just playing around in the mechlab.

Hear that dev's? Put enough in there I don't get bored, please!

IMO, one of the best parts of previous mech games was the ability to customize and tinker with the build options until you had the perfect mech for you. If all I ever got to play was the same tired catapult, it would get dull after a few months.

Variety is the spice of MWO.

For me mastering one mech will be the priority.

But later on more will be needed for 3 reasons:
-To have diverse knowledge about the strengths and weaknesses of each mech.
-The ability to fill more roles in case i'm in a group.
-And most importantly 'cos if i play one mech non-stop for months there is a chance that i may get fed up with my initial choice i'll avoid playing it since it is too boring.

I will likely end up with 2 or 3 favorite Mechs, but I will collect them all in all variants. Thats the one reason for me to have bought the legendary pack: I'll start with 4 ;)

I'd like to have different types to be able to support the team in whatever role they might need.
