its a 100ton fast striker, not meant to stand there and trade blows in a brawl. speed, hit N run is your friend.

Baron what size engine are you running?

I run a STD 350 in most of my Atlai. I found that gives you decent speed and turning ability while keeping weight lower. Lowest I would go is a STD 325. Also the 350 gives you that fourth HS engine slot. I like the build Mycrus has sans the XL engine. I go mid to close range with my Atlai so an XL spells death for me.

Here is my build. Hopefully it'll give you some ideas. My grouping are simple. Each arm on its own, the AC20 on its own and the LRM on its own. You could setup the arms to chain fire to help with heat control if you want to.

most of my atlai run 315s I believe. Good balance of speed and weight and firepower for my DDC and D builds.

I've tried several with the Boars Head, as you said the higher rated engines fare better. I usually throw a 360 into mine for the heatsinks it has, albeit this limits my firepower but as you said, the 6Mlas build is usually what works best anyways on the BH. but with that I usually ditch the missiles, and just run the 6 Mlas with the ac20. I've done some nasty brawling (600-800 damage) with that build.. but that's only when I'm up against an average pilot.

If I face off against a timberwolf who's good, he will usually circle me and plow me to pieces, and despite firing away, those 6mlas/ac20 just don't cut it against some of the heavier/deadlier builds out there.

I do the per arm grouping, to avoid overheating, and I just alpha when I want to blast all six with an ac20 round.

Been playing my DDC and D build more the last few days. gonna hop into the BH again now and try out some builds (or just revert it back to that one).

Well against a TImber Wolf I can see that. It is a superior mech. Faster and more firepower. Kind of the reason I run the 350 and LRMs. I try and avoid them unless I have backup. If I have to engage I try and do so at just greater than 200m to be able to use the LRMs once in a while. The extra turning speed from the 350+ engines is a huge bonus.

Happy Hunting.
