If they did that...

They would be between 3 and 6 stories tall...which is about the height of an MWO Commando to the height of an MWO Hunchback.

o.O; Comparing a tank that without the barrel is 8.56 meters and with the barrel is in excess of 10 meters, to a person, to a car in MWO, to a mech...
You'll see one very, very tiny 80 ton battlemech that a Hunchback might crush. :P

the scaling in this game is relative to the other mechs. Not to the buildings around them nor to an imaginary building in a book somewhere.

It seems to be a fairly tight battle between the Zeus and Cyclops at this point, with the Zeus in the lead for now. The Charger almost certainly lost the race already.

In terms of gameplay, something to keep in mind is the hardpoint layouts. The Cyclops is essentially just an Atlas with 10 tons less armor and firepower. It has low-slung arm lasers, a right torso ballistic, and some left torso/center torso missiles. I guess it might have a higher top speed, but that might be the end of the differences.

The Zeus stands out at least slightly more than that. It has usually torso lasers (some variants have them in the arm as well) which may or may not be high mounted. It also has a missile arm and a ballistic arm on most variants. Currently, no assault mechs in MWO have a ballistic arm on one side and a missile arm on the other.

Therefore, I would argue that the Zeus would be at least a tiny bit more unique in MWO than the Cyclops, barring things like quirks.

PGI asks for players opinion on 3 specific mechs - Zeus, Charger & Cyclops...

Every other post is asking about the Mauler and Annihilator..

Tough choice.......

Zeus is gonna be the "peoples choice" but..:Cyclops is the more useful. ECM, heavy module mech.

Tough choice between the Zeus and cyclops for me. I ended up going withe the Cyclops since we currently have two 80 tonners.

The base variant of the charger with the 400 engine is pretty bad, but according to the TRO there are tons of variants with a smaller engine and more firepower.

I was just wondering today how long it might before the Zeus makes it into the game.

The Cyclops doesn't canonically get ECM until 3077...most of our IS ECM carriers weren't canon either, but by that logic then the Zeus is equally likely to get ECM as the Cyclops is. ;)

Thunderhawk would also tickle my fancy. If had had to chose from those three, probably would go with Cyclops.

Cyclops is an info warfare machine from the get go. That's its classic description, Fup. If the original Info Warfare mech of Btech doesn't get ECM, nothing deserves it.

The Inner Sphere could use a nice weapon to spice things up a bit...right now it's kinda stale on this end. The ZEU-6Y would finally give PGI a reason to add the Blazer, as they try to stick to weapons that are needed for stock builds in the game.

Perhaps because they already have plans for at least one of those? (for those paying attention)

Cyclops could redeem the IS....a bit...and with a slick modern design I think it would be a great new mech. Maybe even make the command console more prevalent in game.

That's PGI's call to make, and we've seen how much they avoid adding new ECM mechs outside of the Clan Uller/Koshi/Loki. Lots of mechs in MWO don't always fit their classic descriptions, for better or for worse...

Zeus is fine, but nothing distinctive. The cyclops has a ton of lore behind it that could make for some great quirks. I would love to see what Alex does with the head/cockpit on it as well.

So yeah, Cyclops all day long.

But doesn't everyone want the Charger brawler mech? It can run in and...shoot it's 5 small lasers at...something...while it tries to kick..oh wait, no melee.

Cyclops.

the scaling in this game is relative to the other mechs. Not to the buildings around them nor to an imaginary building in a book somewhere.

Story is relative for a visual comparison.
However, the official BT canon is that they, with few exceptions, are not taller than 14 meters.

The ones in this game, loosely scaled to one another if at all...
Well lets put it this way anything 50 tons (not counting Nova or Hunchback) and up are in excess of 14 meters from 14.6 to 17.8 meters.
A Vindicator is more than 15 meters tall. (45 tonner).

You asked if they would scale them properly, so I was letting you know how much smaller the mechs would be. Virtually any mech built to Battletech's scale would be smaller than the MWO Hunchback.

Now scaled relative to the mechs, they'd probably be between Victor and Awesome sized. Awesome if they come stock with full armor, and Victor if they come stock with a little more than half armor (at least that's how I believe the Awesome and Victor was originally scaled, to reflect its massive amount of armor on the Awesome to the minuscule amount on the canon Victor.)

:)

Anyway I've seen past art by Alex on the Zeus. Anyone seen any by Alex on the Charger or the Cyclops?

Charger! You got a energy only, energy-missile-jumpjet variant and a kitchen sink balistic-missile-energy Atlas-alike!

Also it means only a hop skip and a jump to Hatamoto-Chi, add a few extra visual pieces and you get additional mileage out of the work to get it in game!
