zero changes to geometry or assets just change the lighting on most and textures on a few.

Alpine Spring
Canyon Flood
Canyon starry night
Tourmaline Twilight
Tourmaline Sandstorm
HPG darkside of the moon
Crimson monsoon
Rivercity high noon.

If most of the human work goes to geometry can't reskins of existing map been done quickly?

We're getting a new map tomorrow. But I agree about the variants.

+1

Just changing up the spawn points would make some maps play completely different.

I'd like to see a snowy canyon, even if it doesn't make much sense..
I want it every time I catch a glimpse of it loading and the textures are white.
Hell
I'd like Terra Therma if they gave it a snow skin and just replaced the lava with frozen rivers or something.

This is a great suggestion. I can only add to it. A sand, silicon, or what ever the crystals are made out of, should interfere with sensor reading. A large thunder storm with heavy rain should effect thermal vision and cause major problems with night vision with lighting strikes. Make the weather more dynamic.

More maps, different maps, not variants of existing maps.

No real variety means less fun. Tactics become stale.

Why wouldn't Snowy Canyon make sense? Plenty of places that have cacti can get snow... Heck, it'd look like the North Dakota Badlands even more then!

You're missing the point
New maps would drain CW resources.
New maps are welcome in the long run yes, but right now the quickest way to add some flavor would be to just reskin old maps.

Agree with all this. Yes, new maps are obviously needed, but I have to assume making changes like in the first post would equal 3/4/5/6? times as many map variants as new maps. Would love to have the "mining" map (dumb name, by the way, looks like zero mine processing facilities I've ever seen and it's obv not a mining site either; should have been called weapon facility or just industrial complex), but then focus on adding those 3-6 variants before finishing Swamp.

We have to start somewhere and at least variations are a start. No different from back in the NBT days and having fog/night/no radar games was always the same maps just different conditions we fought under and it always made for different tactics.

well, I mean, it's a pretty dry map and the general feel of it reminds of Nevada or something
But when you mention North Dakota it makes sense.

Flavor? It's still the same old stale usual tactics regardless if the scenery just has new lipstick on it.

Your argument that it would drain CW resources is a sycophant dodge, MW:O should have at least 30 maps by now. How long has PGI claimed Game Launch out of Beta? And did you miss the fact that PGI put CW on hold on purpose because they wanted to make sure they got the rights to the IP for a longer period of time?

I think just for the lols they should have a snow version of terra therma. Just have all the lava be replaced with ice and cover it in snow. Make it just as cold as it is hot, so -95 degrees.

flavor as in "oh hey, that looks different"
Not
"Wow, this map is underwater, in space and there's a giant rabbit constellation in the sky."
And yes
They put the game on hold to secure the rights like, a year ago. Congratulations on receiving your telegraph
It's common knowledge maps and cw were put on hold for clan mechs and such.
And now that time has passed and we can all move on.
Now CW is in the pipeline heading towards us.
What we're discussing in this thread is variants of existing maps, not new maps made from scratch, not sure how you missed that, but whatever.
Reading comprehension is hard.
We're not talking about new maps, not because none of us want them, god knows we do.
We're talking about fast easy reskins because it wouldn't drain CW resources.

Congratulations, you've missed the entire point of the conversation.

Exactly. And just for all who are curious, this is a picture of the badlands (Yeah, apparently a russian site, but I've actually been on horseback near this same place... so I know where it is)

http://www.epwr.ru/photo/219/1.jpg

And yep, arid as hell but still somehow gets a lot of snow.

So I agree, a winter Canyon would be sweet.

Tourmaline Sandstorm piqued my interest the most.
