Whats a properly equipped banshee to you? (not that I disagree, I have 3 of em, just curious).
Banshee 3E. 3 AC5, or LB10X, AC5, AC2 load out does very well. Their alpha leaves something to be desired, but the continual damage adds up very very fast.

Seems to me it would have the same problem the Direwolf has. You have to spend entirely too much time staring down an opponent.

Very much so, but I think it's one of the few mechs that can duke it out one on one with a direwolf.

I dont wana be the "1 on 1 " kidie in here.... but when you claim such thing, please show me in private match. I agree that you can kill a DW in a 12 vs 12 match under certain circumstances. But i doubt this will be by a single assault mech.
And its not that i say DW > All. I say DW > all other assaults, like crow > mediums like timbi/Dog > heavys, which will kill diversity e.g. alot of mechs that we see these days will no longer be played.

1) 2LPL, 6MPLs, cooler than I thought, except on Terra
2) 5ML, 2LL, AC20
3) 3xERLL, 2xAC5 (or 2xUAC5) (alternative: 3xERLL, AC20, 2xMG)
those are my three, surprisingly the first one has the best K/D, but the second is the most fun.

Thats exactly where you are wrong. The DW lives of his teammates. Since its the slowest mech around, it pretty much loses against everything in a 1on1, as long the opponent knows what he is doing and is not facetanking/faster than 70kph.
As an IS player I wouldnt do a 1on1 against any other clan mech than a DW.

Meh, Most respectably built assaults can take it down one on one as long as they aren't trying to win a staring contest.

Speak for yourself - but diversity was never the problem of MWO - of course there are Mechs that are less frequent in use - but in all those 2 years i play MWO - there was seldom a mono-fraction of a single mech
Only a peak when a new mech was available - nothing more.
And - believe it or not - the first kill after the clan package wave 1 was released was a Dire Whale- it wasn't a experienced warrior - sure - and they changed the hitboxes - but still this thing is a huge hitbox - and only 1/3 of this mech means danger.
See a Whale - move to cover an flank - if he got you in plain sight - happens - move on.

Why would someone burn his premium time just to prove something to somebody over the Internet?
Anyways, before you make me the same offer, apologies, but I don't have any assaults. Not yet, anyways.

If should indeed prove popular in the Underhive.
For the rest of us, it will remain the situationally useful Mech it has been since June. And there will continue to be plenty of situations it is horrible for.

Actually, in internal testing at brawl range, a SRM30 STK-5M with 2 med lasers WRECKS the DW. He only lost twice, once to a UAC60 build that is not reasonable outside silly BS like that, and once to the 6UAC5...otherwise did not matter, dual gauss + everything did not put out enough DPS to do it.

I have owned Direwolves with everything from Spiders to Hunchbacks to Thunderbolts to Atlases...
Personally, I think the IS has the better Assaults hands down. The Maskari and Direwolves just don't impress me.... Sure they can unload alot if you stand RIGHT INFRONT OF THEM but if you can move when you fight and twist, they get hosed.... I find taking them on with lights and mediums easy fun.

I don't think so. Players are a diverse lot by nature, as are their choice in mechs. What is "the best" to one pilot will not be "the best" for all pilots.

There maybe some heatsinks thrown in, but I'm at work so I can't look right now.
I put up 1000 plus damage game all the time with it.

I can't pinpoint exactly why, but I'm having really bad time in the Atlas, despite having mastered the D-DC. With ECM/AC20/3xSRM6 this thing is supposed to be a beast, shouldn't it? But when I play it I feel like a punching bag. Everybody's taking the shots at the big scarry mech. Win rate 0.62, K/D 1.07.
On the other hand the Daishi is roughly the size of a Stalker. It is actually not that scary looking. I get way less aggro in it. And I know I can go 1on1 and kill any mech by only pressing one button. Yesterday, me and my friend managed to stop a flanking attack. Enemies were marching through the canyon and we had the upper ground. We killed 7 mechs and stayed alive, 2700 damage total. I have never felt that powerful in MWO. So far, W/L 4.33 K/D 4.0. Basic skills only.

It has happened many many times, you see it all the time. I wont say all assaults can take a DW one on one but an Atlas can and will kill that DW 99% of the time one on one, the other 1% are newer pilots that havent learned to pilot well yet.

I have killed many DWs with my XL370 CN9-D. A few salvoes of SRMs in the back followed by machine gun fire means you have one dead DW. Raining LRMs can take a while, but as long as you have a LRM boat that moves around 80 kmph the DW should stand no chance really.
I even killed one with an arm full of C-ERML on my Nova prime by shooting it in the cockpit (that's 42 dmg in the head).
They have their uses, but their speed is a big drawback. They need babysitters to shine, something other Assaults also need, but not at all to the same extent. The ECM Atlas will still be king of Assaults in my mind, just because it brings both utility and hitting/staying power to an extent other assaults don't really do.
And last but not least, I don't think many players will keep on playing it for long, because it's generally not as fun to be that slow. Also, if they do become really popular, lights will also become more popular because the DW is just a sitting duck to lights.
