Russ, when are we going to see a change to this bug that has now become a stable "mechanic" within the more comp communities.

If you're unaware as to what I'm talking about... Here is what is happening, and has been happening since early closed beta...

A player spams a single JJ to cause the mechs jump animation to loop in a manner which is undeniably not intentional. The end result of spamming this is a hit box that warps up and down in rapid succession making the mech far far more difficult to hit. Often the hitbox will also desync from the visible model making what look like direct hits on a mechs CT actually just pass through.

An official position on this would be much appreciated.

It's easy to not waste shots on mechs doing this as it has about a ~2 sec window for the anim to play and the idle/walk cycle to play again.

Additionally mechs spamming JJing will cease to sink heat, especially if they don't know the timing to, ie wait ~2 sec before tapping again as spamming the JJ button just wastes JJ fuel and heat.

Truly sad that people abuse mechanics this way. Especially in the more competitive play groups, where has honor and respect gone that people chose to cheat just to win?

Please also send a ticket to support. I know Russ has been great answering all our questions, but we can't come to him with every questions.

Obviously if it's being exploited it should be changed, and anyone who notices this type of behaviour should report it as well.

Seeing a video would be interesting though. I've never seen it happen myself.

Only a few 'Mechs have exploitable jump animations like this. The Timber Wolf is one of them. It's simply due to the animations for 'Mechs having very inconsistent styling and quality.

Competetive = use everything you possibly can to win. "Fun" and "honor" are not involved. Anything that can be abused, will be abused.

If steroids were simply frowned upon in the olympics as opposed to being illegal, how many people do you think *wouldnt* be using them?

That said, I am not a competitive player.

Just get in a TBR, go into 3rd person, tap JJ once. Thats all people are saying is an exploit. Of course it's not really. As for blaming other players for hit reg in MWO.. lol.

What you are describing as competitive is war, this game is not war. It is sad that people apparently see it that way.

Steroids are banned because they artificially enhance a player's ability to perform but again I say, it is too bad that people don't respect the sport they are in to maintain a level playing field so they truly know they are the best. Human nature I guess, exploit what you can so you can beat everyone. So sad.

You are correct, this is exactly how it is. It is something that is pretty much wired into our genes, and in fact you can see it in apes and many other intelligent social animals. "The one that can exploit the rules and thus gain the most advantage without getting caught, wins."

Politicians, leaders of industry, they are all masters of this.

Just went into testing grounds and tested it on a timberwolf for myself. The delay between JJ firings is more like 0.5 seconds, not 2 seconds, and the jiggle is actually fairly significant. Take this behavior and do it in a streak jenner with near neutral heat dissipation. Add to it the already horrendous hitreg for something moving at 140kph and you have something that is nearly impossible to hit.

Its part of the pathetic excuse for JJ system we have now. Hoverjets.. Complete joke and need to be addressed intelligently. After the last update i seriously doubt it is in PGI's power to do so intelligently though.

Regards.

Every mech does have exploitable jump animations. The level of effect however is not black and white.

I challenge you to take any mech with JJ, make a training mission, go to 3rd person view and then start spamming JJ.

Your comment about the timber wolf is certainly true as it's one of the "highest" jumpers in terms of the animation loop. This results in a model/hitbox teleportation that is more significant than others.

Take a mech with JJ, drop in a training mission, go to 3rd person view and start spamming your JJ.

Anyone with access to the game is capable of emulating this.

I don't have any video recording software on my rig atm, however I'll try and see what I can do to get a video compilation of a large number of mechs. If someone else already has videos, or the ability to post them more easily than I do, it would be much appreciated.

Exploits should not be discussed, but reported to support.

Closing thread!
