The Dire Wolf is insanely tough, even though its CT is easy to hit. I've lost count of all the times where I've stripped it of armour, got internals to orange and then just fired off the final killing blow while moving away, and... it's still alive, with red internals.

I turn around, blast it again, dead on the CT and... it's still alive, with slightly deeper red internals.

I overheat, get battered, power back up and blast it again and... if I'm lucky, it dies the third time.

This is mostly the case when I'm in a light or medium mech, of course. I'm used to being able to easily finish off cored mechs with orange CT, but with the DW, it's not that easy. The intended killing blow is rarely a killing blow.

TL;DR: I once saw a DW and wanted to give him a quick blow, but couldn't finish him off.

Welcome to playing Clans....

The Dire Wolf benefits from twisting the torso almost as much as an Atlas. The other thing to remember is they, like 99% of all Clan mechs run hot, and need good trigger discipline not to be constantly in over heat.

The amount of DWF-Primes I'm seeing these days shut down on the battle field is telling me too many IS pilots have looted them, and try to drive them like one of their hunks of junk.

*shrug*

I guess the answer is based on what I'm driving at the time. If I'm in anything but a DW, the answer is "no"...they're hard to kill. If I'm in the DW, the answer is "OMG, why am I so easy to kill?" I guess it's a matter of perspective.

The only problem I've got with the DW comes from playing in the solo queue exclusively. Everyone wants you to lead the charge because you're 100 tons of "make a hole".....then, when they see the enemy, they zoom in and back into each other, leaving you standing all by yourself. And, since this thing moves like old people at Golden Corral, you're beat. No escape, no retreat. Just bend over and give thanks for what you're about to receive.

Same is true for the War Hawk... Yet IS pilots do leave the poor Awesome swinging it's **** in the wind...

Might be something with the PUGlife, I feel your pain, I'm stuck in the PUGlife too.

In response to OP, first thought that comes to my mind when I read this is:

this happens exactly because of your main weapons being mostly torso mounted, combined with the slugishness of the chassis and the huge ammount of firepower you want to unleash, it requires you to keep your CT very still when firing, or aligning for a shot, so it makes the CT an easy target since it's often very still.

he wasn't cored by one salvo he was stripped of armor. If I am not mistaken 6x LRM 15 are worth >90 points of damage. CLRMS are pretty tightly grouped and with a TAG in play it sure could be enough to strip the armor. Also in my view it is VERY likely that the mech that finished him also shot him before already while the LRMs were comin in.

In my view for the punch it packs the direwolf still isn't cored easy enough. It's near impossible to catch a good direwolf pilot at a front angle without getting torn to pieces by his return fire and he still would walk away with just a few scratches.

I view the Dire Wolf like i view Dreadnoughts in Warhammer TT.
Stand in front of it and you're not bigger than he is? You're dead.
Stand to his left/rear? He's dead.

I actually enjoy facing Dire Wolf pilots. Even in my Lights. Unless he's boating GRs and PPCs, it's always fun to dance with them for minutes at a time while he tries to kill me.

The Dire Wolf is the first Assault 'mech that does what an Assault 'Mech is *meant* to do.
Tear whatever is in front of it into itty bitty bite sized scrap metal while being lumbering enough that it IS possible to properly flank it in brawl range. (IS Assaults spin like ballerinas, which needs to {expletive} stop)

The Daishi should be the model upon which all Assaults are balanced off.

Unless you're Twinky.

If it's a Twinky Dire, and you're in front of it, you're boned.

Well, I actually managed to survive one of his alpha strikes at long range as a Mist Lynx one time...but of course I lost half of my mech in the process. :(

Holy crap, that's a necro. Not the worst (five years dead) I've seen, but still, over a year?

On topic: Of course Dires die fast, that's what happens when you bring the mass of a medium mech in weapons. You become a priority target.
